It took forever to get into a groove that had me actually wanting to read the book. I had to keep forcing my way through the first half of the book. Unlike world War z where I was hooked after the first chapter, I wasnt invested till the half way point. And then it felt very rushed. It had a very "The Martian" feel to me for most of the book. Then it got interesting and...ended. not a terrible book, just not the level I was hoping for....more

I think that Geralt is an amazing character and I was loved watching him interact with this full and exciting world. What I didn't like was the short stories. It is difficult to really get deeply invested when the story shifted. And while the storylines felt connected enough, I find that it is the moments in between that I get wrapped up in the story. Dont get me wrong, it was a fun title. I just wasnt clamoring for the next page. When I hit the end of a chapter I could go to sleep instead of desperately wanting to find out what happens next. I'll read the next, but I'm not desperate for it like I am with a full story....more

It kept me engaged enough but wasn't a must read. It really wasn't earth shattering but had a new enough concept that I felt it was worth a try. When I finally got the choice I was beyond excited. I read excitedly, waiting for the hammer to drop and for it to take off... And then it ended. I must say I was VERY disappointed. I had such high hopes for this book. The dialog was iffy, the prose bordered on creepy(it a bad way), and the story just fiddled out. There was a point toward the end where it could have really become something special...and it just ended in the most odd way. And the next story in the "other Stories" had no point and wasn't even worth the effort. Overall, DON'T try. Nothing like the movie, not worth your time. ...more

On the one hand its the most exciting star wars entry since the huge Vong series but on the other it came to an end. No more. The store lines all ended about where you expected so no major twists or turns, but the excitement and battles where everywhere and non-stop. I couldn't stop reading the entire thing. I only hope that the journey keeps going with another major multi book story arc! ...more

I felt this book progressed much quicker than most of the other books. It had a good amount of action, and while the story was still based on dialog and character interactions, the plot was not weighed down by it... in fact for the first time in the series I felt that the dialog really drove the story as opposed to holding it back. The secrets revealed where numerous and the cliff hanger AMAZING! Tidbits of knowledge were sprinkled throughout that left you thinking you had it al figured out, to only be smacked with a dose of reality as you realized how good the author really is at plotting out the story. As always the book is as fun for its mythological creatures and individuals and the way in which the author sprinkles historical knowledge and mythological understanding in a fun plot line. Well done again Mr. Scott!...more

I found myself become attached to the knights and even the "nasties" came alive easily as I read. The downside to this book was the pace. I found myself becoming bored throughout the first 3/4's of the book. I had to fight to reach the end, when I was rewarded with fast past and exciting action. If your a Dresden fan, you'll love this one if you can sit through the first half. ...more
