This is exactly the type of book I would have appreciated being given back in early Primary School. Unfortunately I was not so it want until I was 39 that I was Diagnosed as Autistic. Who knows, if I had this back as a small child I may have been able to share that I related to the kids in the book. But then again, I was a girl in the 80s and 90s and as the book address, back then, apparently girls didn't have Autism.
Thankfully that's now changed and this book does an excellent job of acknowledging so many facts about what it is like to be Autistic and that it's not a bad thing at all. I love and appreciate how they reiterate that throughout as often, mainly with girls, Autism is something we tend to hide.
In this book we have 3 kids, Luna, Ravi and Liam. All different and unique in their own ways. Which is another thing I really appreciate with this book. There is no Stereotypical Autistic. The authors don't say things like, 'all Autistics do this and that'. They acknowledge that Autistics are of all ages, gender and are all unique. There is no standard list all Autistics follow. There are more common traits and lessor common ones and you may have some of the same as the kids in this but you also may have others. Near the end there is even a section where you can write what parts you connect with.
The style and layout of books like these that are focused on educating, is also something that I particularly find important. The wording and explaining was very well written. Easy and basic to follow. The pictures also helped as some Autistics find visuals along with words to be how they try to understand something.
Overall, I found this book to be amazing. It's a great read for anyone really. For an Autistic. For a parent or family member. For classmates to have an understanding if there is an Autistic child in the class. For adults who may have a friend shows child is Autistic. Or even someone who is interested in learning more about Autism. The list goes on and on.
I would highly recommend this book. Expecually to small children who can go through it with family members and friends....more

I can see why David Walliams is so popular. His fun and humourous story was a joy to read. There is a silliness to it but also a depth as both Ruth and Spaceboy have a parent-guardian who abuses them verbally on a daily bases. The story also involves Ruth's parental, both being deceased.
Ruth sees a spacecraft crashing down to the ground not far from her home so she sneaks out to investigate, where she meets, her soon to be new Friend, Spaceboy. But if course Ruth isn't the only one to have seen this spacecraft crash landing.
The illustrations match perfectly with the story and were really enjoyable to look at. The book is a chapter book but it is equally also a picture book as half of the content is illustrative.
Looking forward to reading more from this author....more

I have to say that at first glance the cuteness of this book is what caught my eye. It's adorable! The majority of the pages, which are shown in a comic/graphic novel design and layout, were easy to understand and often did make me smile and think how sweet what they are doing and saying is.
However. I felt that some where not so easy to understand. This could just be me and my mental health issues/disorders coming out but some took me a bit of time to get what the meaning was and some I just gave up trying to figure out. I understand that there probably won't be many like me that have this issue, but younger readers, who haven't had much life experience, might also notice this.
Overall though, it's a great little book and would make a fantastic gift....more

I swear I read this as a kid. I have a faint memory of the cover and little bits and pieces of the story but not the overall story.
So I quite enjoyed this. I can see it being scaryish for kids. I reckon I definitely would have felt that creepy feeling at times. The story was interesting too.
A new girl moves into this tight knit community and finds out that there is this boy who many years ago, died.
But apparently he's not happy and each year all the kids have to play Hide and Seek and Pete, (who is the boy who is dead) will choose one person to be the next person he takes over the body of. But he only does that at night time and during the day, the kid he has chosen, is his normal self. So....you don't know whos body and mind, Pete lives in. Not until all is revealed at the end.
So yeah it was great to read and a lot of fun. Even as an adult it was enjoyable.
I really have missed this old books I read for the first time back in the 90s. Nightmare Hall series by Diane Hoh. Goosebumps and The Ghosts of Fear Street by R. L. Stine. Anything basically by Paul Jennings (Can you say, The Cabbage Patch Fib and The Gizmo?!). Also ANYTHING that was Point Horror. I'm trying to find as many as I can as Audiobooks on YouTube...more

4.5 stars rounded up to 5.
Now I remember why I liked this book so much!
A new Theme Park has just been built and who better to test it out before the grand opening than the creators own daughter and her best friend. Only, they don't get what they were expecting.
And then at the end, I get what I wasn't expecting! A twist that I never saw coming, which totally bumped this book up from a 4.5 to a 5.
Definitely one in the series I would highly recommend....more
