This was a wild one, the ending really made up for all of it, like I did NOT see it coming nor would I ever have guessed it. So like the whole time I was confused on how these unlikeable people got together in this house, (they don’t know either) and also confused on why they were behaving like normal when they are DYING but also trying to find a missing girl. But yet, I was intrigued and kept reading, and again, did I mention that ending? Yowza.
The audio was lovely for this one, the narrators did a wonderful job with the multiple POV’s, and I want to note my favorite was the “Beast in the Cellar, a narrator who spoke to us readers, and was quite entertaining and snarky. So much so that I was chuckling a few times.
I super enjoyed this one overall and definitely recommend it, but am going to stop there as I could keep going, but if I do I will inadvertently spoil something. ...more

Oh my, I did not expect to love this as much as I did! The audio was fantastic, I love a good rich people behaving badly, and this was full of that along with our oblivious Pomona! I love a NY setting also and this was so fun, I figured most of it out but it did not matter I enjoyed this one so much. I loved the chemistry between Gabe and Pomona, and Pomona’s growth was fun to watch. I’m not sure if this is the first in a series (I tend to think it is), but I would not mind another one at all given how much fun I had reading this!...more

I was drawn to this little book by the gorgeous cover, and had no idea the punch it packed inside. Joannie is our protagonist, and she goes on quite the unhinged journey and I was kind of here for it, as secondhand awk as it was. I enjoyed this one blind, and loved the audio, but be prepared there is some steam in here if you do the same. It was a quick and highly entertaining read, I do love hot mess characters behaving badly....more

What a fun, snarky generational family drama that I absolutely loved. I could relate to this eccentric family, especially the daughter whose POV is the primary one in the story. It is an epistolary novel which I thought worked well here. The story is centered around what happens as the parents are aging and they need care and feeding more than they used to, and how the kids are handling it. I loved the writing and the banter in here and appreciated the humor given the heavy topic. I definitely recommend this one, it was very well written and very relatable....more

But I love historical fiction and I loved this book. There were elements of mystery here so I can see how she pivoted eventually but this story was so well crafted, I was vested right from the start. Midwives always fascinate me and I loved the plot that she created here, and I’m guessing it was probably not far from reality back then. I loved each of the characters also, overall such a great read and I am ready for the next book....more

I was surprised by how much I thoroughly enjoyed this one! I started with the audio and after a while switched to the physical copy, and it got even better just reading the book. I loved the mix of tension building and banter that went on throughout, and the constant guessing of who was behind what happened. I did not guess until the end, and ended up really loving this book. The mean girls were in full effect here but I loved how Florence handled them, and while this is a thriller I was definitely chuckling many times throughout. I could not believe it is a debut and I cannot wait to see what she comes up with next!...more

This was an intense, thrilling, and fantastic read! The audio is excellent, and note this one is dark, which I loved. This is the first in a series which I am very glad about, this was a fantastic plot about a serial killer aka the ‘Tableau Killer who has been hunted by FBI Special Agent Lukas Stark for 18 months with no luck. Then he gets a new partner who is a remote viewer, meaning he ‘sees people, places, events far away as if they are in front of him. Stark doesn’t buy it, but by the end of this he has no choice, and I was on the edge of my dang seat until the very end. This one was SO GOOD and you need this one now if you have not read it. ...more

I love a good spy thriller, and this one fit the bill quite nicely - it was well done and the pacing was steady. I’m not sure if it was timing, or audio, or both, but I loved this one so much more the second time around, and while I still thought it was a little on the slower side, the slow and steady pacing was just right for me as this is one you want to savor rather than rush through. Having gone to see Allen Eskins at an author event prior to re-reading this, it was helpful to have his perspective and only enhanced the experience. I enjoyed I Would Die For You by Sandie Jones, and you do have to suspend a bit of belief with this one but if you can do so then it will be fine. I love Nordic Noir and am a fan of Ragnar Jónasson, so I was glad to read this one and listened via audio. This is apparently a spinoff of The Darkness, but it read just fine to me as is (however I have added The Darkness to my list). The audio was ok, and I did not have a physical copy to follow along with and wished I did. The ending was super abrupt, so much so that I thought something was wrong with my audio and listened a few times to make sure, but I think that was how it was supposed to go, so just know that. Overall I thought this was really good, I just think physical copy is the way to go here. The story was engaging, I enjoyed the dual timelines and the eerie atmosphere was fantastic....more

I really enjoyed the audio for this debut, and I was hooked by the premise of Appalachian folklore. The story took a little bit for me to get into, but once I did I really liked it. I think this is one that the audio probably helped overall, as it enhanced the creepy atmosphere, especially those last few scenes with the community. This was my first read by this author duo, and I really liked it. Note that it is book 2 in a series, but it read perfectly fine as a standalone to me. I was not sure what to expect as I went in blind but I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked this. It was infuriating how Nancy was treated given her past mental issues, but it went with the story. The second in the Martini Club series was just as fantastic as the first, and the setting here finds us in Maine, where our former spy Maggie Bird has retired along with the others of the The Martini Club. There is another case to solve, and I am loving this group of retirees. The pacing was steady, the audio was fantastic, and I really loved the addition of local police chief Jo, she was lovely.
