I thought that the book was extremely good. The story always kept me wanting to read more and not stopping until I was done. The book was about a young boy, Edgar, who lived on a planet called Atherton. Atherton was created by a scientist to see if it was possible to save life on a polluted Earth. Edgar was also created by the same man that created Atherton. Edgar was sent on a journey to the bottom of Atherton to try and regain contact with the Dark Planet. When Edgar reached the docking station however, the ship became automated and sent Edgar to the Dark Planet. On his way to the Dark Planet Edgar received instructions from his father to seek out the Silo where he grew up. When Edgar stumbled into the Silo, he quickly made new friends with the young children who were forced to work there. Everything seemed to be going according to plan until Commander Judix, the dictator of the Dark Planet, realized that Edgar was the boy created by Dr. Harding. When she realized this she did everything in her power to stop Edgar and his friends. By Dr Harding’s ingenious plans and quite a bit of luck, Edgar and his friends narrowly escaped the Dark Planet and returned to Atherton. Once the group reached Atherton, a chain reaction was started that sent cleaners to the Dark Planet to rid it of pollution.
The main character in the book is Edgar. He is a young boy who was created by a scientist. He is an extremely good climber and uses his skills to climb underneath Atherton. Throughout the book he goes through significant changes. In the beginning he is searching for something that will show him where he really came from. In the end of the book Edgar finally receives the sense of fulfilment he has long been searching for.
The setting of the story switches between Atherton and the Dark Planet. Atherton was a planet that orbits the Dark Planet. It was created to save the lives of people on the Dark Planet. The Dark Planet was Earth after it had run out of resources. The Dark Planet had little life left on it and was covered in a thick layer of poisonous smog. Everyone on the Dark Planet was required to wear goggles when they went outside, and almost all of the children are shipped out to work because of their tolerance to the smog. The time period of the book was never clearly stated, but I believe that it took place in the close future. This is because the Earth has finally been exhausted of its resources and the main characters were trying to save the dying planet.
I believe that the lesson the author was trying to teach in the book is that there is always hope. This is because even though most people had given up on the Dark Planet, Dr. Harding never gave up on his plan to save it. I can apply this to my life in many ways. I can apply this to my education by knowing that the end goal is good and that I should do my best to get there. I can also apply this at home. Even when I feel like I can’t do anything, I will remember that there will always be better days.
I would give “The Dark Planet five out of five stars. The book was very well written and flowed nicely. The author did a great job of keeping my interest throughout the whole story. The author also did a great job of always adding elements to make me think about what was going to happen next. The book had a simple vocabulary and was very easy to read. I would recommend this book to high schoolers or anyone who loves books with lot of action and suspense....more
I read “Rivers of Fire by Patrick Carman. It is the second book in a trilogy about the life of a boy on a new world. I very much enjoyed the book andI read “Rivers of Fire by Patrick Carman. It is the second book in a trilogy about the life of a boy on a new world. I very much enjoyed the book and how it was written. The author used lots of detail and always kept the book interesting. The book starts off with Edgar returning to the grove to warn them all of the dangerous cleaners. He then meets up with Vincent and Dr. Kincaid, who take him down into Mead’s Hollow. The travel to Mead’s Hollow to try and find Dr. Harding, the man who created Atherton. When they reach the bottom, they are surprised to find Dr. Harding with Samuel’s father. The group then travels another way to a secret door. Before they get inside, Edgar is taken by Sir Emerik back to the house of power. The group continues, except for Dr. Harding who leaves to rescue Edgar. Once Edgar is saved, he makes the climb out of the Highlands to the Grove, while the rest of the group travels through the inside of Atherton. Edgar convinces the people of the grove that they need to flee to the Flatlands. Once they are there, Edgar is reunited with the rest of the group that was traveling through Atherton.
The main character in the book is Edgar. Throughout the book he uses his amazing skills to save himself, as well as many others. Near the end of the book he discovers that he was created by Dr. Harding. At first he is discouraged, but then he realizes that all of Atherton was created for him, and he must take care of it. As the book goes on, Edgar transforms from secretive and lonely to being a beloved leader.
The book takes place sometime in the future. You can tell this, because the author talks about how Earth became a terrible place. People were moved to Atherton to start new lives because of this. The story takes place on Atherton. The main group of characters travel through the inside of Atherton, which is full of many dangerous creatures that help sustain life on Atherton’s surface. Edgar leaves the Highlands once it floods and returns to the Grove. He then leaves the Grove when it floods and goes to the Flatlands to start a new life.
I think that the theme the author was trying to portray was that there is always hope, and that no matter how bads it may look you can push through it. I could apply that to my life in several ways including school, work, and at home.
I would give “Rivers of Fire five out of five stars. The book was packed full of action, and it never lost my interest. It flowed well and was easy to read, which made it that much harder to put down. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a lot of action....more
I read “The House Of Power by Patrick Carman. The book is full of adventure and always kept me wanting to read more. The story is about a young boy wI read “The House Of Power by Patrick Carman. The book is full of adventure and always kept me wanting to read more. The story is about a young boy who is part of a changing world. The world is made of three tiers; the Highlands, Tabletop, and the Flatlands. Travel between the tiers is forbidden. However, the young boy knows of a secret hidden in the cliffs between Tabletop and the Highlands. So at night, he sneaks away and practices his climbing skills. He finally finds the secret one day, but it is a book. He has to illegally climb to the Highlands to find someone to read it to him, for no one in Tabletop knows how to read. He finds a boy in the Highlands who becomes his friend and reads him the book. On the way back down to Tabletop he is caught and must flee to the Highlands. When he gets there he is misled and travels down to the Flatlands. There he finds a mysterious man who informs him that Atherton is collapsing in on itself.
The main character in the book is Edgar. He goes through many changes throughout the story. He starts out as a playful young boy, but is suddenly forced to grown up when he discovers he has knowledge vital to the survival of his home. He is an orphan, eleven years old, and the best climber in all of Atherton.
The book is set in the future. You can tell this because it talks about how Earth became uninhabitable, and people were forced to this new place. The story takes place on a planet called Atherton. Is was designed to have three tiers and to orbit the Earth. The top tier is for the rich and knowledgeable, the middle is for the workers, and the bottom is where all the waste from the other tiers collects.
I believe that the theme the author was trying to portray was the value of friendship. In the beginning, Edgar had no friends and was always lonely. Later, however, he makes several great friends who greatly assist him in his adventures. I can relate that to my life in several ways. I can surround myself with people who have the same goals as me and who will push me to do my best. I can also surround myself with a close group of friends to keep me going when I am in a tough spot.
I would give “The House Of Power four out of five stars. The book had a great plot and flowed well. The author always held my interest and kept me wanting to read more. Some of the vocabulary was difficult, but nothing a good reader could not handle. For these reasons I would recommend the book to more mature readers who are looking for a suspenseful book that is packed full of action.

Hinton. I thought the book was really great. I think that it really made me think about everything that have. It made me appreciate having loving parents, good friends, and living in a peaceful community. In the book Bryon and Mark go through a lot. They constantly hustle games of pool at their friend’s bar, until one night they get in a tight spot and their friend is shot. Bryon takes it hard but Mark just shrugs it off. At this point Bryon gets a girlfriend and begins to grow apart from Mark. Then one of Bryon’s friends has a bad acid trip and loses most of his brain. This shakes Bryon hard. He stops talking to his girlfriend and shuns people. He then finds out Mark is selling acid and calls the police on him. When Mark gets taken away, Bryon realizes what he has done and shuts down even more. He goes through the motions until one day he goes to visit Mark in prison. Mark tells him he hates him and he would kill him if he could. He tells Bryon, “That was then, this is now.
The main characters in the book are Bryon and Mark. Bryon is a dynamic character and changes a lot throughout the story. He starts out as a big tough guy who is always switching between women. However, later in the book he meets Cathy and starts to change. He starts pondering life and growing apart from his adopted brother Mark. He ends up shutting out the world and becoming miserable. Mark is Bryon’s adopted brother. When he was young his parents shot each other, and he has live with Bryon ever since. He does not change much throughout the book but is an impactful character. He is a rebel and thinks he can get away with anything. He boosts cars, steals from stores, and ends up selling drugs. He likes starting fights and is a bad influence on Bryon. He ends up going to prison for selling acid and was turned in by Bryon.
The book was set in a low-income town in the 1960’s. Being that the story takes place in a low-income town, it has a big impact on the characters. There are lots of gangs and people are often getting beat up. There is still separation by blacks and whites which also causes trouble. Since the main characters do not have much money, they had to do anything they could to stay alive.
I believe that the theme of the book was to think before you do act. There were many instances throughout the book where a character acted without thinking and hurt himself or someone else.
I would give “That Was Then, This Is Now five out of five stars. The plot was was very well put together and it flowed well. It was an easy book to read and could be read in a short amount of time. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone younger than high school, because it does contain some more adult situations. I would recommend to anyone who enjoys a good book with lots of action....more

I really liked how the characters dI read “My Name is Davy, I’m an Alcoholic by Anne Snyder. I enjoyed the book very much and could not put it down. I really liked how the characters developed throughout the story, and could relate certain situations to ones in my life. The story starts with Davy drinking all the time so that he can feel like he is accepted. He starts hanging around with the “cool kids and will do whatever they say to fit in. He starts to drink even more and one night the guys try to get him to have sex with Maxi. He doesn't remember if he did or not because he passed out. However, Maxi and him become great friends that always drink together. One day they both get beat up trying to buy booze. For this reason they both decide to quit and attend meetings that help alcoholics. Maxi takes it very seriously, But Davy drinks when she is not around and insists he is not an alcoholic. One day they are walking on the beach and Davy convinces Maxi to drink. They both get really drunk, and when Davy wakes up he finds out that Maxi drowned and died. He then runs away from home and tries to start a new life.
The main character is Davy. He really doesn't change much throughout the story because he never gets away from his addiction. He is an alcoholic who believes the only way to make friends is by drinking, and ends up accidentally killing his girlfriend Maxi. Maxi is another main character. She changes a lot throughout the story. She becomes Davy’s girlfriend, decides to quit drinking and does, and ends up dying in the end because Davy was a bad influence on her.
The setting of the book is never specifically mentioned, but I believe that it takes place in a fairly large city. I can also conclude from the text that the book is set in the current time.
I believe that the idea the author was trying to get across was that once you start making bad decisions it takes control of your life. It showed how Davy’s mistakes cost Maxi her life and ultimately his own life as well. It is hard for me to make any personal connections to the reading, because I have never been in a situation similar to what Davy went through. However, I can use the book as a good example of what not to do in my life and use that to make better decisions.
I would give “My Name is Davy, I’m an Alcoholic five out of five stars. The author kept making me want to read more and more. The vocabulary was easy and the book flowed very well. I would not recommend the book to anyone not in high school, because it does contain some topics not suitable for younger readers. I would recommend it to anyone else who enjoys a good book with lots of action and a good moral....more

It was about a boy, Tex, in his teenage years. He loses his horse because they are low on money, his mother dies, his father is always gone, and to top it off he finds out that Pop isn't even his real dad. Tex's brother, Mace, has been like his father for as long as he can remember. Mace is a star basketball player who wants nothing more than to leave. Throughout the book Tex falls in love, gets into a lot of trouble, and even gets shot at a drug deal. I didn't enjoy however, the book just ends not giving any information as to what became of Tex and Mace.
Tex is the main character and is very dynamic. He loves horses, is a troublemaker in school, will do anything to be popular, and is in love with Jamie. Throughout the book he discovers just how fast things can change, and that he shouldn't take anything he has for granted. Mace is Tex's brother and doesn't change much throughout the book. He is a star basketball player and all he has ever dreamed of is going to college. However, as the story progresses, he decides not to go so that he can take care of Tex.
The setting of the story is never clearly stated, however I believe it takes place in the late seventies to early eighties. It is set in the small country town of Garyville, Oklahoma. I believe the setting impacts the story by making certain events more likely to happen. It also influences the characters and their behaviors.
I believe the author was trying to display the life of a teenager, and show that you should never take what you have for granted. It is difficult for me to relate well with the story, because I have never been in a similar situation to what Tex went through. However, I believe I use what Tex learned throughout the story in my own life. I can be thankful and take care of everything that I have been blessed with in my life.
I would give “Tex four out of five stars. The author used simple vocabulary that helped keep the story flowing as well as kept my interest throughout the book. The book contains some situations and language that might be inappropriate for a younger reading group. For these reasons I would recommend “Tex to high schoolers and older who enjoy a realistic adventure packed story. ...more
I read "All Shook Up The Life and Death of Elvis Presley" by Barry Denenberg. The book was full of information and was a very entertaining read. I likI read "All Shook Up The Life and Death of Elvis Presley" by Barry Denenberg. The book was full of information and was a very entertaining read. I liked it a lot, because it taught me a lot of things about Elvis that I wouldn't have otherwise known.
The book is a biography of Elvis' life which means it starts with Elvis as a child. His father, Vernon, can't hold down a job and provides little for Elvis and his mother. Elvis' mother, Gladys, is a stay at home mom who centers her whole existence around the happiness and protection of her little boy. Elvis struggles as a young boy, but stumbles upon a young man looking to break the race barrier in the music industry. This man is Sam Phillips. He gives Elvis a start, but does not have the resources to make Elvis a star. Elvis later signs a contract with Colonel Parker, who slowly destroys Elvis' life. Overwhelmed with fame and fortune, Elvis develops horrible spending habits and becomes addicted to drugs. The fall of her little boy leads Gladys to alcoholism. She soon dies from liver failure. For this reason Elvis surrounds himself with lots of people who just want to use him for his money and becomes very unhappy. He begins to gain lots of weight and because of the drugs develops anger problems. He forgets words to his songs, skips performances, and becomes secluded. Finally on the anniversary of his mothers death, he is found face down on his bathroom floor. Biopsy later revealed an overdose on drugs. So ends the life of "The King of Rock and Roll".
The main character in the book are Elvis Presley, Colonel Parker, and Gladys Presley. Elvis was a singer and actor who was nicknamed "The King of Rock and Roll". He experienced many hardships in his life, and his success overwhelmed and eventually killed him. Colonel Parker was an illegal immigrant and a very cruel and greedy man. He became Elvis' manager and treated him very poorly. He became very rich and had complete control over Elvis' life. Gladys was Elvis' mother. She was very protective of Elvis from a young age. People often commented that her relationship at some points was actually scaringly intimate. She struggled with alcoholism as a result of losing her little boy to the world. She died at age 43 due to liver failure.
The book has several settings. Elvis was born in 1935 in East Tupelo, Mississippi. Thirteen years later he moved to a "Shotgun Shack" in Memphis. He is sent to Germany for the army in1958. The story also takes place in Elvis' mansion, Graceland. Elvis was alive from 1935 to 1977. This is the time period the book takes place in.
I believe the authors' purpose for writing this book was to expose Elvis for who he really was. I think that he wanted everyone to know that the Elvis that everyone saw was just a mask to hide what was really underneath. It is hard for me to relate to it, just because I have never encountered situations like that in my own life.
Overall I would give "All Shook Up The Life and Death of Elvis Presley" a four out of five stars. The book always kept me wanting to read more and had a simple vocabulary that made it an easy read. I would recommend this book to a slightly older audience just because some of the topics discussed in the book may not be appropriate for a younger age group....more

The book was very confusing to me for a majority of the story, but I did understand of the story was very good. I related to the theme that a person strives to be remembered after his life has ended. It has made me realize that I can be doing a lot more to make an impact in the world I live in.
Throughout the book, the author is reminiscing stories he has heard of his father, Edward Bloom. Most of the book is stories about the authors father. The author tells about how his father escaped his hometown, saved many peoples' lives, bought a town, and had encounters with lots of women. Throughout the book the author's father is dying. For this reason, everyone who has ever met Edward begins to mourn. Edwards son, Will, tries to get his father to pass on his knowledge to him before he passes. His father was never in his life and still won't open up to him. Will begins to get down on himself when his father is nearing the end. Then at the end, however, the authors father starts an amazing transformation and turns into a big fish.
The main character is Edward Bloom. Throughout the book he seems to be a very dynamic character. He is loved by everyone, very kind, strong, and handsome. He was never there for his son and had relationships with other women, but no one seemed to care. Before he died, he told his son that all he ever wanted to be was a big fish in a small pond. At the end of the story, Edward actually turns into a big fish and swims away. His son, Will, is a secondary character. Will is not as dynamic, but seems to have his beliefs challenged because of his fathers death. Growing up, all he wanted was to know his father. He tries and tries throughout the story but doesn't make any progress.
The book takes place in Edward's house, where his son tells all the stories of his father. In the stories he tells, his father moves from a small unnamed town to Auburn. He does this to further his education and fulfill his dreams. The time period was never revealed, however I believe it took place in the fifties or sixties based on certain details in the story such as clothes, behaviors, and vehicles.
I think the theme of the book was to show that your achievements and memories can live on after you are gone, and that you have to make the most of the time you have. I agree with the author's view and believe that I can apply it to my life by living every moment as if it were my last.
Overall I would give "Big Fish" a three out of five stars. The book was hard to follow for a majority of the time, and the vocabulary was also challenging at times. For these reasons I would only recommend this book to someone with a higher reading level that would enjoy a complicated and sometimes confusing plot....more

When the book starts Henry cannot stop eating chocolate. He puts it on everything from fried chicken to noodles. One day however, he starts to feel funny. He doesn't realize how bad it is though until he starts getting brown spots all over his body. He gets taken to the doctor and they analyze the spots. It turns out they are chocolate! Everybody starts getting crazy and wants to experiment on him so he runs away. He then met a very nice truck driver named Mac. He told Henry he should call his parents, but before he could their truck was hijacked. The hijackers took them back to their wearhouse. It turned out that the hijackers thought the truck was carrying furs, but it was just full of candy bars. They end up getting saved and Macs boss shows Henry how to cure his chocolate fever.
The main character is Henry Green and he is dynamic. In the beginning he cannot stop eating chocolate, but in the end he gives it up almost entirely. Mac is a secondary character who stays the same and helps Henry throughout the book.
The story took place mostly in the city, but also was briefly in the forrest. The book was not set in a specific time period, but I thought it related to closely to present day.
Overall, I thought "Chocolate Fever" was a good book. It had a simple vocabulary that made it easy to read as well as a good plot. The book flowed well and was never boring. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes an easy read with a good entertainment value. I would give "Chocolate Fever" four and a half out of five stars.
I read "Esio Trot" by Roald Dahl. Mr. Hoppy has always had a crush on Mrs. Silver, his close neighbor. When she says she'd do anything for her turtle I read "Esio Trot" by Roald Dahl. Mr. Hoppy has always had a crush on Mrs. Silver, his close neighbor. When she says she'd do anything for her turtle to grow, Mr. Hoppy immediately takes the chance to try and impress her. He tells her to recite a magical saying to her turtle three times a day and he will double in size in two months. He then switches the turtles when she is at work, each one slightly bigger than the last. Finally Mrs. Silver realizes that her turtle has doubled in size and invites Mr. Hoppy over for tea. He then asks her to marry him and they live happily ever after.
Mr. Hoppy is the main character. He is in love with Mrs. Silver and ends up marrying her. He is also a good builder and showcases his skills in the book. Mrs. Silver is the other main character, and she loves her turtle. She doesn't seem very intelligent but ends up marrying Mr. Hoppy.
The book is set mainly on Mr. Hoppy's balcony as well as Mrs. Silver's balcony. The book most likely takes place in the current time.
Overall I thought "Esio Trot" was an okay book, but was definitely not my favorite. The author did a good job of keeping my interest, but the storyline did not appeal to me. The underlying theme of the story was kind of bad, considering Mr. Hoppy tricked Mrs. Silver into marrying him. Besides that I would recommend this book to just about anyone looking for a quick, easy read....more

Jack and Annie have just saved Camelot, and Morgan wants them to be able to go on a fun trip next. She sends them to Elizabethan England in search of a special magic. They stumble upon a man named Will who is in desperate need of two people for his play. Annie said she would love to, but Jack has stage fright. Annie convinces Jack to do it and he only makes it through because he imagines he is somewhere else. They realize that is the special magic they were looking for and start to go home. Will offers them both jobs, but they turn it down because of their parents. He leaves them a script signed, William Shakespeare, and they return home.
Jack is one of the main characters and is dynamic in the story. Throughout the book he learns to overcome his fear of acting in front of other people. Annie is the other main character, but doesn't change much over the course of the book. She encourages Jack to help with the play and also rescues a bear named Dan.
The book is set in England during the Elizabethan era. The setting gives the reader a good idea of the events that could take place in that time period. It also provides a good picture of what the scene will look like.
Overall I thought "Stage Fright on a Summer Night" was a very good book. It has a simple vocabulary which makes it an easy read for people of most reading levels. The author also does a very good job of keeping the readers interest throughout the whole book. For those reasons I would give "Stage Fright on a Summer Night" four out of five stars....more

They go to the magic tree house early tuesday and it takes them to the prairie. They see a wagon train and soon discover a small one-room schoolhouse. They go in and the teacher has them read and write. They find a blackboard with a poem on it and realize that it's the writing they need. They start to go back to the tree house, but a twister forms and they have to go back to the schoolhouse to save the children. Once the storm is over everyone becomes friends, and Jack and Annie return home. At the end they receive another note telling them to return tomorrow for another adventure!
Jack and Annie are the main characters and are brother and sister. Jack is very smart and keeps a journal of everything he learns on his adventures. He is also very kind and reaches out to Jeb who is hostile towards him. Annie is very sweet and makes friends with a girl and boy at her school right away. She also helps keep them motivated throughout the story.
When the book starts it is set at Jack and Annie's house. They soon travel to the prairie by way of magic treehouse. This is where the majority of the story takes place. Jack and Annie live in the current time, but travel back to the 1870's for a good portion of the book.
Overall I thought that "Twister on Tuesday" was a very good book. It has a simple vocabulary, interesting and helpful pictures, as well as a very enjoyable storyline. The author does a great job of keeping the readers interest throughout the whole book. The story talks about various encounters Wile E. Coyote has had with Acme products and their failures. It goes in depth on the failures of the Acme Rocket Sled, a pair of Acme Rocket skates, a spherical Acme Bomb, and a pair of Acme Spring-Powered Shoes. Each fails for different reasons but they all cause harm to Wile E. Coyote. It also tells how Wile E. Coyote intends to proceed and what he expects of the Acme company if the decision is in his favor.
The main character is Wile E. Coyote. He is a professional predator who can never successfully catch his prey. This is almost always due to a failure of an Acme product. He is very intent on receiving funds from the Acme company in return for his losses.
The events that are told of in the story take place mainly in the desert where Wile E. Coyote hunts his prey. The story is told by an attorney in a courtroom somewhere. The time of the story is not specific, but could be related to current time.
Overall I thought "Coyote v. Acme" was an all right story. It did not appeal to my reading interests very much, so I only gave it two out of five stars. The vocabulary was a little difficult at some times, and the author did not do a very good job of keeping my interest throughout the story. She tells everyone that when she is older, she is going to have the best job. When job day comes around however, she is just made fun of because she decides she wants to be a janitor. She gets over it, but learns that she just needs to keep her mouth shut!
Junie B. Jones is the main character and is dynamic. Throughout the story she gets in trouble for opening her mouth, and she learns that sometimes she just needs to hold back.
The book is set in Room Nine and Junie B's house. There is no specific time, but it seems to be set in the present time.
Overall I really enjoyed "Junie B. Jones and Her Big Fat Mouth". It has a simple vocabulary and is a relatively quick read. The author does a good job of keeping the reader's attention throughout the book and shakes things up by writing the book how a kid would talk. I would recommend this book to a younger age group because of its vocabulary and the general theme of the story. I give "Junie B. Jones and Her Big Fat Mouth" three out of five stars just because it did not appeal to my reading interests.

He beats people up and takes their money because he thinks that gets him respect. One day a boy, Darrell, stands up to him and breaks Tyray's wrist. He becomes the laughing stock of the school, and thinks the only way to get back their respect is to get a gun. He steals and lies to get enough money to buy a gun and waits outside of Darrells' work to kill him. Tyray is about to kill him but then turns the gun on himself. Darrell tackles Tyray before he can shoot himself and Tyray becomes a totally different person.
Tyray is the main character as well as a dynamic character. Throughout the book he realizes that intimidating people is not the right way to earn respect. He looks up to his brother a lot, and that is the reason he doesn't kill Darrell. Darrell remains the same throughout the book. He is always positive and tries constantly to be friends with Tyray.
The book is set in an unknown city in California. It takes place mainly at Bluford High School and Tyray's house. There is no specific time, but the events seem similar to current day issues.
Overall I would give "The Gun" four out of five stars. I would recommend it to most readers, because it has a simple vocabulary and would interest most readers. The book has a very good message and is an easy read for anyone who likes intense action....more

ItI read "Inherit the Wind" by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee. The book is about a court case that begins harmless but turns out to be a big show. It showcases the two best lawyers of the day. Throughout the book the two battle over the theories of creationism versus Darwinism. In the end the very religious town seems to turn their views because Drummond has made them think. Although the defendant was found guilty, he opened the door for those who will follow in his footsteps. He shows everyone that they can't be afraid to speak their mind and take a stand.
The main characters are Bert Cates, Rachel Brown, Matthew Brady, and Henry Drummond. Bert is a school teacher who taught evolution illegally and is now on trial. Rachel is the reverend's daughter, Bert's girlfriend, and she decides to leave and start a new life with Bert. Brady is a very overconfident prosecuting attorney, who receives all the attention of the town at the beginning of the drama. He is also a strong believer and supporter of creationism. Drummond is a very intelligent defense attorney, who gains the loyalty of the town throughout the drama. He is in favor of Darwinism.
The book takes place in Hillsboro, Tennessee. It is set mainly in the center of town and the courthouse. The book takes place in July of 1925.
"Inherit the Wind" was not my favorite book, but would appeal to anyone who enjoys intense drama. I would recommend the book to an older audience because of the books extensive vocabulary and structure. It had a good moral and maintained my interest throughout a better part of the book. Overall I would give "Inherit the Wind" three out of five stars....more

The book had a strange plot line the was hard to follow, but overall I enjoyed the book. It is about a boy whose grandpa is dying and he has to go out hunting by himself for the first time. The boy is alright until he sees a doe that he has seen before. He decides that if he can touch it instead of kill it, then his grandpa will not die. Throughout most of the book the boy follows the deer and finally touches it. When he gets back, he tells his grandpa the story and his grandpa is very proud. The boy then realizes that you cannot stop death because it is a part of life, even though it can be extremely sad.
The main character is John. He is a dynamic character and is thirteen years old. During the course of the book he struggles with the coming death of his grandpa. At first he doesn't believe it is true, but learns that there is no way to stop it. Clay is John's grandpa. He has raised John since he was a small boy, and recently found out he has cancer and will not have long to live. He is very strong throughout the book and teaches John a very good lesson about life and courage.
The book is set on a small farm in Northern Minnesota. The time period is not exact, but takes place during the last three months that john's grandpa has to live.
Overall "Tracker" was not one of my favorite books, but I would still recommend it to most readers. It is a quick read, has a simple vocabulary, and does a decent job of keeping the readers interest throughout the book. However, I felt the book was very confusing at parts because the author did not provide much extra information or detail. I give "Tracker" three out of five stars because of its lack of clarity....more

I thought the book was very good, because it was never boring. The author was always on an adventure, whether he was investigating a glowing stump or fighting off a huge bear. The books theme was that you never really realize how much you don't know until it hits you in the face. The author expresses this when he almost kills one of his dogs from his inexperience in dog-sledding, and when he watches a pack of brush wolves kill a deer. He also shows how amazing the outdoors are if people would just stop and pay attention to it.
The main character was Gary Paulsen. Throughout the book he changed so much because of the things that nature and his dogs taught him. He is almost always with his dogs training or trapping, although he does have a wife. He likes to keep to himself and realizes what little he'd have if he didn't have his dogs.
"Woodsong" is broken up into two parts, each with a different setting. The first part of the book is set in Minnesota where the author traps and trains dogs for the Iditarod. The second part of the story the author races the dogs across most of Alaska. The book is not set in a specific time because the author is reminiscing the most fond memories in his life.
I thoroughly enjoyed "Woodsong" because of its fluidity and entertainment value. The book was never boring and was relatively easy to read. The fact that the book is all true makes the read even better. I would give "Woodsong" four out of five stars, and recommend it to anyone who loves nature and wants to hear a true story about a mans courage....more

I thought the book was very good. It shows how good of a father Moose can be by showing all the hard work he does. The book is interesting the whole time because moose is always doing something to keep your attention. He shops, bakes, and decorates in the Christmas spirit. In all the chaos Moose forgets to cut a Christmas tree! Since he is a good father he goes out to find a tree on Christmas Eve, but cannot find one. He decides when he gets home that the kids can decorate him and his moosetache instead. Once all the kids go to bed Moose hears santa. That is when the book ends, making for a dramatic, cliffhanger, ending.
The main character is Moose. He has a wife and three kids. He is full of energy and is constantly busy during the story. Moose also has a very strong sense of family. Mrs. Moose is Moose’s wife. Throughout the story she is very supportive of Moose. The minor characters are Moose’s three children: Sissy, Bucky, and Junior. They are sad that Moose forgot a tree, but get over it quickly when he volunteers himself to be the tree.
The book is set mainly in Moose’s home except for when he goes to town to find a tree. The story takes place during the days leading up to Christmas day.
Overall I thought “Mooseltoe was a very good book. It kept my interest throughout the whole story and made use of an extremely simple vocabulary. I would recommend “Mooseltoe to readers of all ages for its good theme and enjoyability. I would give it four out of five stars....more
