I just assumed from the title "After the End", this was going to be some kind of post-apocalyptic survival tale. Not so much.
Can you imagine basically being lied to your entire existence? This poor girl, Juneau, has been told her whole life that there was a WWIII and her clan was some of the only survivors. They were relocated to Alaska to live their lives confined to a pre-determined area and told not to go beyond because there could be raiders looking to steal their resources. Only after her entire clan is kidnapped does Juneau realize she has been lied to. She is left alone. She must try to "save" her clan. But, how does one survive in this modern world when all you know is your commune's ways?
I did enjoy this one. Some of the beginning conversations between Miles and Juneau are almost painful. They are just such an awkward and unlikely team. But, somewhere midway through, the author seems to hit her stride and they become a pair to cheer for. Miles' voice, for me, lacked something....I can't put my finger on it.
Somewhere about halfway through this, I thought "there is no way this is going to wrap up" and i was most definitely correct. This ended up on a huge cliffy. I am left with so many questions and wanting the next installment NOW!!!!
I do suggest this one. I think you have to push through the first 100 pages, the getting to know you stages, but after that this story is great! I'm excited to see where this is heading.
3.75 out of 5 stars. This and other reviews (and other fun stuff) over on my blog

Not because they are cute or cool or even appealing for that matter, but because I wondered why the heck Sookie was riding a Tiger and a vampire was grabbing at it's tail. You see, in the show True Blood, I don't recall such a tiger being present, so you know about cats and curiousity right?!?!?
With all that being said, this was my least favorite book so far.... SPOILERS FROM HERE ON OUT!!!!!!
This one was a filler book for me. What's the point of Quinn? Why is he (after what 5 seasons??) not on the show (if I'm not mistaken, even if he is on the show he definitely does not have a huge role like he does in the past two books)???? I can't help but want to just scream "get to the point already" or Where's Eric or Bill or even Alicide, who the heck is Quinn the freaking Tiger???
Also, Hadlee definitely has a little larger of a role on the show in some ways.... but this book, kills her off. With that being said, her story was much more in depth with the book, so bonus points there.
At the end of this, I feel sorry for Sookie. She is just sleeping around with Quinn (it feels like to me) to pacify her hurt over Bill's betrayal. Oh, yeah note to self: don't forget this is the book where Sookie finds out about Bill being sent to spy on her by the Queen.
3.5 stars and I still am addicted, I'm still a fan and I can't wait to read the next book.
And by the way, I started my True Blood Marathon. I am a happy girl :)...more

Ok, so I kept holding out for a happy ending. The end just sucks, but is it realistic??? Probably and unfortunately so :(
At first, I was not feeling Cam. She just seemed so snarky and bitter, but after really thinking about her situation I don't know if I would have been any different. Hope can be a dangerous thing. It's hard not to have it, but when you get the news that there is nothing else to be done, maybe it's hard to feel the hope.
This has a bit of a road-trip in it, which ya'll know I love! Cam and her family go to Promise, Maine, the town where their neiborhood hippie says has magical, mystical powers of healing. Cam is a non-believer, her sister, Perry is an over-believer and their Mother is just grasping for anything to help her daughter. You can't really blame her. Cam continues with her pessimistic attitude until..... she meets (amoung other things) Asher. He is pretty much her opposite, but they seem really good for each other. Asher is easy to love.
Like I said, I wish things could have ended differently, but you can't always get what you want.
This one has lots of good things going for it. Just be warned, you might need a tissue.
4 stars!

Spoilers............ Jace's story is one about child abuse/domestic violence. Overcoming it. Escaping it. His older brother ran away from it, bottled it up, never looked back. Jace's father found a new punching bag. He continually beat their mother, but Jace stood up to him. This resulted in an A$$ beating from his Father and a boot out of his home. With nowhere to go, Jace sets out with a little bit of money and an old letter his mother gave him from his brother. He drives out on faith. His brother lets him in, hesitantly, to his life. They don't talk much about it, they don't ask questions. The both feel driven to save their Mother, but learn she will have to save herself.
I want to be so mad at the MOther for not leaving, for keeping her children in an enviorment like that. It's just sick. It's really easy to judge someone in that situation, but one never really knows uless you've been there. It's just so helpless, so scary. Violence just makes me squeamish. Heck, someone yelling makes me cower. I am just non-confrontational. So stories like this just tear my heart. They makes me so very thankful for a pleasant home life. I just can't imagine being afraid of your own dad.....
I would have loved to have gotten the answer of why the dad was abusive to begin with.

Then we do this thing where we put said dumper on a pedestal and try to figure out why someone so “amazing dumped as. But as time marches on, amazing is replaced with some other adjectives, i.e. rude, pig-headed, insensitive, etc. So, yes this book is relatable, yet it is also creepy at how obsessive one can become with wanting “closure. In reality, for a lot of us “closure really means “give me one more chance, look at what you are missing, we are perfect for each other. Then we get kicked back down and for whatever reason that second rejection is like a epiphany, and we realize it’s time to move on.
Spoilers dusted ahead:
This story focuses on Joy, the dumpee and Zan, the Dumper. Only Zan doesn’t really dump Joy, he just leaves town and tells his best friend Noah to keep Joy away. Sounds like a swell fella, right?!?!?! Joy did this thing a lot of girls do, she let Zan’s Girlfriend become her identity. She based her future on him. She thought it was a deep and meaningful relationship, when all Zan wanted to do was just get away-from her and the town. So, naturally Noah and Joy dislike each other, but figure they will road-trip it out to see Zan and “get closure. (I quoted that, because it’s exactly what I was referring to earlier) Thankfully, he is a royal a$$-hat and she begins her process of letting go.
So, I really loved Noah in this, but Joy and Zan really got on my nerves. She was obsessive to a point it was almost uncomfortable to read. I think I would have liked this monumentally more had I read this back in High School or perhaps after being dumped. But, I really hate how it’s like everything in this book revolved around a guy. Even after Zan was out of the picture, she started in on butterflies and hand-holding with Noah. Like I said, I adore Noah, but I hate the circumstances of how he is “getting the girl
Blah, I wanted so much more from this cute cover. It’s not a quirky as the author wants it to be.

There are times when my child, who is 3 now will act like he is playing with my brother. He will tell me stories of him and his "unc's" conversations. He has told me my brother was in a car wreck and hurt his neck. He has told me my brother lives in the sky with Jesus. You catch my drift. My son has said a lot of things to me that I did not tell him. That seem as if they come out of nowhere. Do I get that this sounds crazy? Yes. Do I believe God works in small children? Yes. My son was given a gift, I believe. A gift of being able to remember his uncle who passed away when he was only 10 months old. The memories are his own, not something we put in his mind.
So when I heard about this book I had hoped it would be something similiar to that. And, I guess in some ways it was. I admit I was wary. This is just not my favorite genre of books. But, it has recieved some pretty high ratings and praise, so I figured I'd jump on the bandwagon to see what the fuss was about.
After finishing, I feel ripped off. I wonder how much of that was spoon fed for the child to say. I'm not saying the story doesn't have any merit, but I wonder how much the dad added to it to make it add up. If it is for real.... good for them. It's one of those things I think was given to this family in a time when they needed it... it shouldn't have been made into a book. I'm not saying just keep it all to yourself, he was fine in telling his church in his sermon. If you were going to make it into a book and the profits were going to benefit a charity or something I might have a little more respect. But, as far as I know all the money went to this little's boy's family.
There is a book that speaks of heaven, of Jesus, of God... it's called the Bible. I should have just picked that one up off my nightstand...

Is heaven for real? Absolutely, but maybe not Colton Burpo's version. I just don't think it's meant for anyone to really KNOW until you are there to stay....

We've all been there. High School. In love with some tool. Dumped by said tool. Devastated. However, after being dumped I did not have to fly halfway around the world with said Dumper and his new girl toy with HUGE boobs (whom he was cheating with.) Poor girl. I did feel a certain amount of sisterly love and pity for her in the beginning. BUT seriously, she was in Italy. Put on your big girl panties and suck it up a little. Yeah, the situation sucked and I know in High School it seems like your world is over when 'the love of your life' breaks your heart, but COME ON already, She was in Italy!!! It's not like it was just the 3 of them, it was an entire drama group. The moping got pretty old. The "Instructions" from Jessa's best-friend were a little ridiculous. I give Jessa some props from some of the things she did. I am a little chicken and wouldn't have done half of it! My # 1 complaint though is this book is far too similiar to 13 Little Blue Envelopes, only not as good. I got a little bored. Next stop on my complaining tour is the little poetry/journal entries. I have no idea why, but they just bothered me. They were Pretentious . It didn't feel like something the immature character I was getting to know through her actions would be writing. I do have to admit though, it really couldn't have been to terrible if I finished it in 2 days, could it?!?!?! No, it wasn't terrible. I did have a little fun with it. bottomline: If you're interested, try it out. You might be pleasantly suprised. I however, was not. Fans of Chick-lit for Young Adults will probably like this.

Wow, Oh Wow. W.O.W. This is a story about child abduction, told from the child's point of view. It is haunting. It is disturbing, but it is not too graphic for those of you who are weak at heart on such subjects. It is so very sad to get inside the mind of this poor little girl-who is now 15. Mentally, in some areas she is still so very young- but in other ways she is way older than 15. The way this is written makes is impossible to put down. Everything is short and to the point. It is a refreshing way of reading. My only complaint is the ending....
**spoiler*** Why did she not go back to her parents??? I just can't wrap my mind around it... Was the "brother" a creeper too? But the last page says "I am free"..... Is it symbolic? Did i miss something huge here?!?!?
Even if the subject matter doesn't sound appealing to you, I highly suggest you to give this one a go. I literally read the whole thing in under 2 hours, so it's not going to waste your time.

The books are worlds apart and totally different, they do not feel like they were written by the same person. That's not really a bad thing... I guess it could be, but in this situation, definitely not. It's actually pretty impressive, "Jenna Fox" was very creative and original and so was "The Miles Between". If Mary E. Pearson has anymore books out there, I will definitely read them!
"The miles between" has quite a few things a really dig in books, i.e. Road Trips, boarding schools, sheep, life lessons, and quirky characters. I expected this book to be lightweight and not too much of a thinking book and in ways I was right, but there were some deep moments and if nothing else, reflections. I love when a book has 3-4 main characters and we do not switch points-of-view. I still got to know all the passengers, but I still feel very involved with Destiny. It seems like when you have multiple characters like that, there is someone that everyone can relate to in some way... or a lot of some ones! I also have to note that some of the "wow" moments were just a littl bit to unlikely to happen, just not very realistic. The entire concept of a "fair day" kinda seems that way to me.... I feel like they were driving around in something
But to me a ROAD TRIP car should look something more I really wish I could run up on one of these bad boys and get my hubster to paint it!!!! I do believe it would inspire some road-tripedge!!
Favorite Quotes: "This was the best day ever", Mira says, wiggling her red platform pumps in front of her. "Seth got his dog, Aidan talked to the president, and Des finally got to say goodbye, but I think right now is the best part of the whole day." Mira's face is a picture of contentment. we are nestled together on a bed of hay, a tight circle, where secrets and distance have been patted away, no wrinkles for Mira to worry over, no innuendo, no harsh voices or tense glances to be averted. Just the Moment and her flashy platform pumps wiggling like everything is right with the world. And maybe for this one moment, it is."
"But sometimes the way life plays out is crazy too. At the very least, it defies explanation. Maybe one insanity balances out the other."
"My house. I am at my house. For the First time in nine years."
"That's a freakish coincidence."

*slight spoiler’s ahead* I’d never read anything by this author, but after that I believe I want to read her “A blue so dark book that came out last year. That being said, I obviously liked this book. The beginning was a little slow for me, but once Clint came on the scene, I was hooked. The entire time reading this though, I couldn’t help but think if this had been written from Gabe’s perspective, I would have hated Chelsea. Somehow, even with her faults and bad decisions, I still loved her. I wish she could have been strong enough to just tell Gabe from the get-go what was going on. I wish that the “Carlyle never happened, but it did make my sympathy for Gabe dwindle tremendously. After finishing this, I feel like I need more. I adored Clint. I want the happily ever after Disney ending I know, I’m absolutely ridiculous, but I was pulling for her to move near him or switch colleges or something!!!! I feel like they had a future. Their love was not over, only beginning. I also have to touch on the sex scenes. No not that way. I was surprised at just how sexual some of their moments were. They felt real, like what a teenager would really be saying and doing. I’m just shocked at how the author decided to let Chelsea’s virginity go. I also have to say when I read the back and noticed it was a basketball themed book, I was not thrilled. I LOVE sports, but not reading about them. SOOOO, I was pleasantly surprised at how little of the book was actually on the court. This was really a book about love, healing, pain, lying to one’s self, etc. which I do like to read about. So, depending on what you’re looking for, this could either be a flop or a hit. For me it was a Slam dunk. Yes, I really just did that I am sooo cheesy! 4 stars ...more

Ginny is in this situation. Her Aunt left her 13 letters, all of which giving her instructions on what to do next and where to go, never opening the next letter until the task was completed. She is on a quest throughout Europe. I'm a little jealous... not of the dead aunt part, but the all expenses paid for traipse through the country! Some of the letters are a bit bizarre, but I guess her Aunt was just that type.
It was a cute little story, there were a lot of fun moments. I liked the characters... I can't really say anything too bad about it. It's not going to blow your mind, but it will be a fun ride. Travel books are almost always fun! I found myself enjoying the letters far more than the actual story.
The back cover says: Would you follow the directions? Would you travel around the world? Would you open the envelopes one by one?
You'd like to say yes wouldn't you... but man, that would be hard not to just open all the letters to see where you were going next!!! It would also be very hard for me to just follow someone else's directions in such interesting places, I think I would veer off the chosen path! And the no cell phone, no internet bit??? There is no way a 17 year old could/would do that... not to mention the parents?? Spoilerish: I hate the ending. Just leaving an opening for another book. Missing the last letter!! Vera: Sister to Will, adventerous and brave at times. It is her idea to save Kai. Our main character. Will: Older Brother to Vera, competitive. Seems to have low self-confidence, always thinks they will not be able to do things. A realist. Pulls through when it counts. Curious, a question asker.
Kai: New "friend" to Vera and Will, and sort of a love interest for Vera. He is Kidnapped because of his ability to find water to tap into. Fun-loving and kind, a diabetic.
Ulysses: A water-pirate, but one who knows loss and compassion. A true friend. A hero. Starts out as a "bad guy", but ends up being one of their strongest allies in the quest to save Kai and his father.
Sula: a late character, but a strong one. Independent. Confident. Someone who will get things done. Someone to depend on.
Torq: On of the main bad guys. Greedy.
The back of this book makes me slightly angry... It says "Would you risk everything for someone you just met? What if he had a secret worth killing for?"
Okay, so I know that Vera and Will hadn't known Kai for very long-but the way the back is worded it seems like literaly they had Just met... I don't know why, but it bothers me!!!! Also, the way things just seem to magically get better or a solution just appears right in front of their faces got old really quick. If you’re looking for structure and complete thoughts you might want to avert your eyes. If you’re into ramblings then I’m your girl! I believe I waited to read this one for so long because it looked so long and the back wasn’t screaming at me either. I am an IDIOT! I should have read this as soon as I bought it. The word “good just doesn’t seem to do this justice. It was brilliant and so creative. I loved it. GUSH, GUSH, GUSH! Beth Revis better watch out, she just created a monster of a Fan-girl! This should seriously be a high-school English Novel, there are so many thoughts in this that could turn into such wonderful discussions. Ie: The Humanity, or lack thereof in this book is just unreal. The drugs used to make people less emotional. The hormones being filtered in the air. The Plague, that’s not really a plague. The Elder/Eldest relationship. Orion. Why did Amy get unplugged? Why would Amy’s parents ever agreed to doing this in the first place? Is Love a needed emotion? Is the “Season to animalistic or is it practical? Whose side are you on?
There are so many more. I’m just trying to list some without giving anything away.
This is my favorite book I’ve read this year. I’m sure there are skeptics who are going to look into the probability and likelihood, the science and not get into it BUT, if you can just read it as the fictional story that it is, WOW, it will blow you away.

Ahhh, the city of romance. Love is building up the entire time while reading this one. It's a bit teen angst, love you-hate you, We're just friends, I've got to have you.
Summary: Anna has been shipped off to Paris to finish out her last year of high School. She is from Atlanta (Hotlanta, if you're from Georgia like me), a pretty southern(but not too twangy to the point of cheesyness)normal teenage girl. She is swooning over Topher, her hometown crush when she is flying over the ocean. Once landing in Frace she spots St. Clair and nothing is the same after that first meeting. He enters her mind. They become friends. He has a girlfriend, his mother has cancer, he's scared of change. They spend a considerable amount of time togehter (I'd be super jealous if I was his girlfriend). They develop a friendship. They get each other. They are in love.... but will they ever act on it?!?!?
Holy Shitake Mushrooms!!! I adored this little love story. It was just too cute. Swoonworthy, gobble-fest worthy. When I couldn't be reading, I was wishing I was! The characters were so very enjoyable. They all had little side-stories, but nothing too distracting.

I would be lying if I said I didn't enjoy this at all. There were plenty of "awww" moments, a decent story and a hawt lead male :) I would also be lying if I said I just absolutely loved this. There were plenty of cheese-tastic moments, a love triangle and an immaturity that was difficult to deal with at times. To a point it was hard to read a main character who was so undecided and committed to keeping secrets about herself.
Spoilers ahead:
Annie is a shy girl. She has been with Mark for 2 years now and doesn't really think she is in love with him. She has a deep dark secret.... she wants to write poetry!!! Yep, that's some pretty scary stuff there. She lives in Texas near the NASA headquarters. Her communiy is a space community. She gets to meet Christa McAuliffe, the teacher who is going into space and she inspires Annie to just be the best "you" she can be. Annie talks her dad into taking her to see the launch Christa is in. He just happens to bring along some eye-candy in Tommy. Their car breaks down and Annie and Tommy get a ride to a hotel while the dad stays behind to get the car fixed... yep, you read that right. Quality parenting. Book parents at their best. UGGGHHH.
Anywho, so there is definitely a connection between Tommy and Annie. The Launch keeps getting delayed to they get to spend tons of time together. They go to Disney World and the beach. They eat together, etc. There is a ton of "tension".
Ultimately, Annie gets to see the launch. It is not the joyous occasion she had been hoping for. A deep sadness fills her. She dumps boyfriend, get's over her grief, writes poems, gets a new boyfriend and decides to go to college. (and it really bothers me that said boyfriend is going to wind up going to college in Virginia and follow her)
Not sure who I would rec this to. It's not bad, maybe just a little young for me. I can see lots of high-school girls really swooning over this one. I think people who are interested in NASA/Space, who also want a love story that is light and fluffy, not boggled down with NASA details will like this.

Jessica is a sporty, atheletic type... but she deosn't want to be anymore. She's into boys and she wants to snag one for herself. She's the most clueless out of the bunch, but the most down to earth one as well. She is only a miniscule less annoying than the other two....
Greer is a rich, snobby, New York B*@#$. She parades around in skimpy, expensive clothes (which all the brand name dropping got old very fast). She is shallow. She tries to halfway improve herself this summer, but fails mostly. Lara is a divorced family victim, a thrift store shopper, has an actual job and is definitely boy crazy.
The whole story was pretty much geared around summer boys... these girls were obsessed with boys. I know that's how a lot of girls are in their teenage years, but it just felt a little shallow. Honestly, i just read this and I'm going to pretty much try to erase it from my mind. Was it terrible? No, but there is absolutely nothing specail about it either... which might be worse than just plain being bad. Also, these girls all seemed too pretty to me.... it was just too much!
