I loved The Silent Patient, so I was so excited to get this book and read it as soon as it was released. My favorite thing about The Silent Patient was the incredible twist at the end. I was captivated throughout and it kept me interested completely throughout. With these high expectations, I found myself disappointed in The Maidens. I found it a bit predictable, and too similar to The Silent Patient. I thought maybe he was a one-trick pony. It wasn't my favorite. But, I do like Michaelides' style of writing, so I'm willing to give him another chance with The Fury. ...more

He used a podcast as the setup for the narration, and I was a little confused at the beginning of the book, but I came to really enjoy it. I love that it was "loosely" based on the events that took place in Waco, TX in 1993. I enjoy historical fiction, because you have to do a little work to separate the historical from the fiction. I would definitely recommend this book to my friends. And, if you ever have the chance to meet Bret, it is well worth the time. He is smart and witty. He doesn't take himself too seriously, and I enjoyed his readings, but especially his Q&A....more

At the beginning, I actually hated the characters. They made me feel anxious as I read. This is my April book club book, for which I am the discussion leader - I may not have finished it otherwise. But, as the book continued and the characters developed, I grew to love them. I found it amazing that the author could elicit such a range of emotions in me. In the end, I loved the story and I would recommend it to anyone....more
