I like Mitchell's even, unpretentious style, but confess to getting more than a little tired of Joe Gould long before the book was over. Fortunately there was a twist that kept me reading. It's a short book (two lengthy New Yorker magazine articles, actually) and an insightful look at a most unusual person. Mitchell himself is part of the story and I found him a curious character, too....more
