Jay lost the love of his life a year ago, when a car-accident took the life of his wife. They had been friends since the age of 7 and were highschool sweethearts. They married right out of high school at the age of 19, but there marriage only lasted for 2 years. He misses her so much and he isn't really living but just trying to survive. His family is pretty fucked up and they won't stop bitching about the accident or the person who caused it. They don't help him grieve and move on, they are stuck on that fatal night and they keep dragging him to her grave. His mother was quite the loony tune.
Lincoln lost everything he worked for a year ago when he caused an accident that took the life of a young woman. He lost his job, his relationship, his money, his house and his faith and believe in himself. He spent six months in prison, but he believes he deserves much more punishment. He moves in with his sister because she is al alone with three kids and needs all the help she can get. Her (ex) husbands likes to beat her up and he wants to make sure that doens't happen again. He was beating on her the night of the accident, which is why he wasn't as focused as he usually is. He wanted to get to her....His niece has some healthproblems that cost a lot of money so he also wants to help his sister financially. He doesn't have any money left so he sells his car and works hard to help her out.
Now these two men meet...and there is an instant attraction. They do not know each other (not by face anyway, because Jay has avoided looking at newsrepports and hasn't been in the courthouse). They act on their attraction with one another, but soon after find out each others names. You can understand the shock !!
Lincoln doens't want to fuck up Jay's life more than he already has. He's really attracted to Jay, but he knows being with Jay would be wrong.
Jay is really attracted to Linc. He has always had an attraction to men (his wife knew about this), he just never acted on it and he is all in with the gaysex !! He really wants to be with Linc but he knows everybody will judge him for it and he doens't want to betray his dead wife. He isn't angry at Linc though......he knows it was accident..he knows Linc is sorry...he just knows that being together would be wrong.
These two men feels such a strong attraction for each other that they just can't seem to stay away. but there is another thing going on. Linc's been getting hate-mail ever since he came out of prison. They leave the letters in his sisters house and even in his niece's backpack treatening her life. Linc knows he deserves whatever comes to him, but he doens't want his family treatened. Jay wants the treats to stop too, but has no idea who has been sending them. He just knows that it's probably somebody he loves and he just can't believe any of his or his wife's family would do this. Together they try to find out .....
I liked the suspence part of the story...but I fifgured out who it was within the first 50 % of the book, maybe even sooner. Now that's not because the plot isn't good, but I used to read a lot of thrillers and detectives...The ending was a bit ott, but I'm oke with that !
The steam in this one was very nice. I loved that Jay knew exactly what he wanted and finally got the chance to do all the things he dreamed about.
This story isn't so much about being forgiven for the mistakes you made, but being able to forgive yourself.....which is so much harder. For me this was not a big sobfest. Sure there were some sad parts, but I didn't cry and I didn't find it depressing. It's about trying to move on and falling in love again, even if it is with the last person you expected to be with ;)

This book does deal with some hard subjects..such as rape and abuse. Some parts were heartbreaking to read about. But then again..some parts were so beautiful and sweet...and those parts really made it worth reading this book. I also loved the age difference in this book. Normally it's not something I'm into perse, but for this story..it worked really well.
Eventough there are sensitive subjects in this one...it was still very nice on the steamy side.
