Is one long repetition. The beginning was actually okay. But then. It’s a will they won’t they? I hate you I love you. I want you I need you. I despise you kinda thing. In a loop. Paedyn’s acceptance of her fate and excessive flirting with this man she by all accounts should hate with a burning passion... Makes no sense. She just forgave Kai way too easily and quickly after he chained her to him. I mean literally dragging her to her death. Struggled with that a bit. This is a romance disguised as a YA fantasy series. Like big sappy desire filled chapter after another. Honestly, if it weren’t for the end of the book I would have zero desire to keep reading. I figured out the princes plan seconds before I read it because Kitt’s chapters were semi disjointed and I was much more distracted by the whole Calum thing. Like, who the heck is this guy for real?? That distracted me from the box. Not that I would have figured it out before the end because we were never made aware of its size... beside the point.
Anyway. Nice cliffhanger, I’ll give ya that....more

I realized at the end of reading it that I genuinely didn’t think about the book except when I was reading it and my brain wasn’t whirring trying to figure out the mystery of it all, I was just. Reading. The writing was clever and funny at times but was lacking a good cadence or flow. At times it felt sloppy and it often felt like we jumped around. We’d skip to the past and back but that wasn’t made clear so it took a second to realize what had happened. Overall not a terrible read, I was engaged enough that I wanted to finish the story and I did chuckle a time or two. But it was missing something. Something that sucked me in, made me want to figure out the story myself, had me guessing and surprised. But honestly? Even though I didn’t figure out the twist, I wasn’t surprised at all. It was like “okay, yeah. That tracks. ...more
