Thank god I kept reading, because it got way better and I would have seriously missed out if I had stopped. It's a lovely story with lovely witty characters and it's funny in an easy way. Yeah okay, the protagonist was still a bit weird, which is why I couldn't give it 5 stars, but it was still a great read. ...more

This is such a highly praised series, it couldn't fully satisfy my expectations. What I did love was the inclusion of the side characters, the focus on action and plot rather than romance and the characters in general. What I did not like was the super obvious villain, the ease with which one MC handles (or represses) all the sh*t happening to him while the other MC in no way communicates his own feelings and reasons even after a making-out-session going wrong, the over-the-top technology, no investigative work by any of the named characters, and last but foremost a sense of some events, reactions and dialogue being illogical. That really bugged me, I need realism of a sort. Even with high fantasy it has to feel realistic to me, in a fantastical sort of way. And with this book some things just felt off. All in all I liked it and enjoyed reading it. I hope it gets better, because it was a solid read....more

Abuse, assault, despair, hopelessness and secrets were the negative themes. Of course we get our happy ending, but it's not an easy road and even the happy ending is rather grim. I loved it! That being said, it's still not an overly heavy or dark read, just heavier and darker than most of Easton's works....more

So much can be told in such a short novel. The main character was an entitled asshole, but he did not deserve such suffering, emotional and physical. 05.12.18, 22.09.20, 06.04.21, 2h 28-29min
The second story is really nice, 4 stars! A grumpy and aggressive main character and a skittish and mysterious 'love interest'. 05.12.18, 22.09.20, 1h 40min
The third story is a twisted take on Snow White, very twisted indeed - the huntsman suffers deeply. 05.12.18, 09.07.20, 4,5 stars
The fourth story can be read as a standalone, though I wouldn't recommend it. The main characters from the second story are side characters for this one and the other way around. 05.12.18, 22.09.20, 3,5 stars, 1h 30min...more

Of course there are rules: the mad laugh, the speeches, the poses, it wouldn't feel right otherwise. The villains have different motivations like bad fashion, corrupt government, a bookstore they don't like... and in this world we follow Pat, who just wants to earn his degree and become an urban architect or city planer or whatsitcalled. That isn't always easy with family matters, finances and minion duty. His latest job as a night clerk for a hero pays well and he can study on the job, all is relatively well until he accidently kinda sleeps with the hero - who may not be such a snobby arrogant know-it-all after all. But how does a villainous minion date a super hero?
This is a great book, that takes nothing serious and has a hillarious view on villains and heroes, I love it!...more

And damn, such a sweet and slow-paced story, I read the first one years ago and didn't read this instalment as part of a series, but as a standalone. And damn, such a sweet and slow-paced story, I adored it! 4.5 stars. Our protagonist Jeremy is a 28-year-old man who never had a care-free youth, or safety or a home. He has a lot of anxiety and is younger in mind than in body. The story isn't angsty at all, it's Jeremy's journey to accept that he has a home now, friends and family. A place where they like him the way he is, that he is good enough. And that it is okay to love and be loved. The language and writing needed some getting used to, the MC had a very distinct voice. We also don't get much insight into the love interest, the story focuses more on the character development of Jeremy and the romance is just an important part of that....more

Both have to deal with family problems, going to university, career options, moving out, coming out and all the normal stuff live throws at you when you find your footing in your adult life. It is still ongoing, I read it first when sixteen chapters were out and now a second time with currently twenty chapters. I didn't mean to read it again, I just had the link saved and was wondering what it was about (it's been three years since I first read it and didn't remember) and before I knew it I was invested and had to read the complete comic again....more
