I find it difficult to express my feelings and thoughts about this book. Really difficult. Most of the time there are only the two main characters talking, thinking and doing their work. Like a little Ty and Zane cocoon. The story development was unexpected, the turn of events really surprised me (view spoiler)[a serious concussion causing permanent memory loss, no progress with the serial, complete turnaround of characters, falling back to drug addiction and almost everybody dies... after the memory loss I couldn't quite visualise my old image of Ty (supposedly looking fourty, a suspicious military type, well-build, experienced and rough) and kept visualising him as a young normal-build naive man. I had to actively remind myself what he's supposed to look like (hide spoiler)]. However, I found the mystery somehow lacking, we are told a lot of facts and theories but despite some attempts on their lives we don't get to actually live the mystery. I would have liked to experience interviews with witnesses, discussions with experts or anything of the sort. Also, the identity of the killer was no real mystery, there weren't many characters introduced to begin with - quite a small group of suspects. The romance part was actually quite good. A tad dramatic caused by the flaws and pasts of the characters. There is a lot to say about this book, however I am unable to express my thoughts and feelings (maybe the cold I have has something to do with that^^). The atmosphere is heavy and depressing and the characters have a lot of personal problems to deal with. Those personal problems and their effects are in the foreground of the book.

I liked the story, in between the kitschy mooning over each other. . .
"The man had no idea how seductively innocent he was, and Wolf wanted to be the one to plunge through Tristan's icy personality to the fire he knew lurked deep within Tristan's body"
. . . the story was very nice :P I would have liked the romance to be more interwoven with the actual story and developing over a period of time. It felt like the romance was more detailed - but still superficial, alas - than the actual ghost haunting plot, which was not satisfying. There was some good humour, but the timing could sometimes have been better.
"The damned doctor is good-looking too. Because I needed that" "Language dear." Mara corrected softly. "If you're going to swear, make it worth your while."
"Like Willy Wonka and Gaia fucked and had a kid. [...] But in a good way"
Though, now that I know that and have read the story at least once I might give it a better rating when I read it the next time, I like superficial nonsensical romance stories from time to time.
Side-note: I always wonder that in many romantic kitsch stories like this one semen is described as something tasting like rainbows and wonders...
"It was as if someone poured a drop of silvery-lit night onto his tongue, and Wolf was afraid to swallow, in case he never had the taste of stars in his mouth ever again."
I mean really? Have you ever tasted semen or even just smelled it? Yuck...more

Really sweet and hilarious! I didn't quite know what to expect, this could have been some tacky and overly cheesy love story. It wasn't! I liked the characters, I liked the story, I liked the premise and I liked the message. Different forms of love, standing up for yourself, family, trust - good themes presented in an honest and funny way :)
And really, how could dogs evolving into shifters and living in human society not be funny and sweet? They are dogs! Lance is such a good example for that, even though he is not a first generation. I really liked him, he is such a well-meaning asshole! With a stick up his bum and no people skills at all! The atmosphere is light and it is quite hilarious to follow Lance's bumbling attempts to deal with everything....more

Two men struggeling to survive while imprisoned and tortured as well as in the aftermath. It could have been a lot deeper and darker, though it was still very entertaining and I really liked it :) I would have liked to read more about it with more raw emotions and more details.

I liked this book! It had a slow pace, but wasn't boring. The main character felt real, with his flaws and insecurities - more real than the typical main character. He didn't recklessly rush into dangerous situations; he was neither brave, nor a coward; he actually talked to the police and let them do their work (most of the time); he was scared and acted accordingly, but there was no angst or whining; he has a heart condition, but there was no unnecessary drama. He was so... normal! :)
Actually, I would have liked a bit more drama and action (and humour), a bit more deep emotions. They didn't get to me at all - I just didn't feel them. The love intererest detective he-man was kinda weird and I think nobody disagrees when I say he's an a**hole ;) I hope there will be more flirtatious banter between Adrien and he-man in the future, I really do enjoy witty and sassy dialogue ...There was none in this book :C I would even have liked it better if there had been nothing at all between Adrien and he-man! There was no sexual tension or any kind of intimacy between the two of them, except for he-man being sorta protective, and at the end he is suddenly (view spoiler)[hinting at a relationship (hide spoiler)]? Better no romance than a lame one. As you can see, for me the 'romance' was disappointing, 'meh' at best. Still, I have high hopes for the rest of the series, I can be an optimist if I want to :D I also hope to get to read more about Lisa with her scary mum-ways and the other interesting side characters, they were totally ignored in this installment but have great potential. Lastly, I wonder about the mysterious lover whom Rob met and the (view spoiler)[letter opener that temporarily vanished (hide spoiler)], did I miss something? Maybe the later and the temp will be of importance in the future??? Or maybe I shouldn't read books when I'm tired O_O
A Dangerous Thing, 18.10.16, 3 stars Nothing new to say about Adrien, still the same average man and I liked that. He-man was still an insecure asshole, but he really tried to be better and was actaully a good friend to Adrien. Both really tried not to wreck whatever they have going on. The mystery and the plot were a bit boring and dull, alltogether a quick and simple read. Sadly the side characters only played a minor role again and the ones from the first book didn't even appear. I did enjoy reading this book, but that's it....more

I really liked the characters, I liked the idea, I liked the violence and the shades of grey (I love shades of grey! Nothing better than moral issues and dark choices). A tad too dramatic and too many I-can't-be-saved vibes, didn't feel very realistic, at least the whole setup for the story. Still, I enjoyed reading it, I enjoyed the connection between our heroes and I enjoyed the lack of a pink happy unicorn ending. The ending seemed surprisingly down-to-earth, an ending I can relate to! (because of the ending I rated four stars instead of three) You like kitsch with a hurting bad boy and some killing? Some people compare this book series to the Stephanie Plum series but I can't agree. It's been a while but Stephanie Plum had a lot more silly humour Some people compare this book series to the Stephanie Plum series but I can't agree. It's been a while but Stephanie Plum had a lot more silly humour and wasn't as deep as this series. This series has more feeling, is more serious and more reasonable but still fun - just not hilarious. Totally different from Stephanie Plum! I would never think of comparing them if not for a lot of people doing exactly that.
Maggie has good reasons for most of her decisions and uses her talents (not like Stephanie Plum having no talent at all). Her background story may be a tad too dramatic but it's surprisingly not an annoying kind of drama. And Mag's likeable - a loyal fighter, a survivor.
About this book especially: Paul, her super hot love interest, is totally suspicious and a liar wit a big ego, other for a romp he's no good. I am quite sure he wants (view spoiler)[her dad's jewels (hide spoiler)]. Maggie's second love interest and co-hitman is honest, a murder with a conscience, always concerned about her well-being and has an interesting family life. Maggie and Patrick are both normal people with normals interests (you know, except for the killing-bad-people-for-money part) and normal looks. He is no stud, she isn't a beauty (she could be if she'd sex up, but she never does), both look like normal average people. And think about it, when do you actually have normal-looking main characters in books like this? I love it!
I found it difficult to rate this book, I did enjoy it and can only recommend it but it doesn't feel special enough for four stars. Still, I feel guilty for only giving it three stars.
About the book series: One funny thing is that even though there are talking animals it feels totally normal and reasonable as far as talking animals can be normal :P
This is a series about a Hitwoman, therefore all the books contains violence. As far as shooting people, murder and being threatened is violence. There is no real cruelty or mean action. That's why this series is not on my violence-list, it doesn't contain 'real' violence..
I really like this series, it has a lot of sad moments and some funny ones. The characters are great, no one is perfect and everyone has problems of their own. There is a lot of character development, most characters actually learn from their mistakes. There is a lot of drama, the Lee family has so many buried problems and Mags has to care for her whole family without anybody finding out about her protecting them even from the dark....more

But the reviews are positive and say the series is hilarious, as well as blurbs are bullshit most of the time, so I'm really looking forward to reading this series and hope it really is hilarious:)
After the first two chapters: I can only say the book and I have a rocky start, nothing funny and I just can't sympathise with any of those characters. I feel like getting dumber reading the book...
After a few more chapters: I think around chapter ten I begun liking the book. It still misses a lot of things like character-depth or any kind of depth, as well as violence (I really miss that) but I didn't find it annoying anymore - mostly. After about the half I got more into it and truly didn't find it annoying anymore.
After finishing: Well well, there is no depth whatsoever, no laughing out loud moments and no real violence. However, the book does have its own appeal if you get through at least half of it. Vampyres who only wear prada, angels who cuss and moon you, lovely little demon babies, predictable but nonetheless nice and ironic plot twists and a totally overpowered main character. The book started annoying and random without depth or a good writing style but if you get over that it certainly has it charms and I actually enjoyed it :)
I would have liked to rate it four stars but because of the difficulties I had when I started reading it I rate it three stars....more
