I'm sure this happens to everyone, while waiting for the audiobook you want to read, you find a 'meanwhile' book to listen to, this was that book for me, this time. It's an interesting enough story about a fifteen year old girl with not the best mom and family life. When mom is out of luck and moves back home to live with her mother, that also means Aurora, her daughter, is now living with her grandmother. Life happens, bonds form, friendships are made, first boyfriend, you know the drill. This is a nicely told story of dealing with issues forced upon you and how you react to them. It's a well narrated young adult story that flows well....more

I wish I could remember who recommended this book so highly, I'd like to avoid their recommendations in the future. There's nothing wrong with the story, it's just a young adult read and wasn't for me. The main character is a teenage girl who has a black father and a white mother. She definitely takes after her father's side and lives in a town with very few residents who aren't white. unbeknownst to her mother, she starts corresponding with her father's family after her father goes missing. It wasn't very interesting or exciting to me, it was well narrated....more

I'm not sure how I ended up previewing this book; sci-fi, fantasy, dystopia is not in my wheelhouse. That being said, imagine a world consisting of three valleys and you're 15 years old, in the middle valley. To the east, you are twenty years older and to the west, you are twenty years younger. The governing body patrols and prevents people moving or viewing the other valleys for obvious reasons, but people are allowed to petition to return to a valley under certain circumstances. Can you imagine being able to go back in time and prevent a disaster or help your younger self so you can lead a better life? What if your older self actually meets your youngerself? What if your younger self accidentally stumbles upon your older self and doesn't like how life turned out? Oh the possibilities. I would categorize this story as young adult as well....more

This is a very whimsical, magical, uplifting YA type book. I found the main character to be a little too rigid, grow up and call your sister, put Chris first, but, if that had happened, there wouldn't be much of a story left. When I got to part three, I made some notes about what I thought was going to happen and how the story would end. I was correct. I was right on all of my assumptions. So, if you are looking for a nice summer light beach read, definitely choose this one....more

I liked this coming of age story about Sam, who the reader meets at age 9, who lives with her mom, Courtney and her younger half brother. Courtney's poor choices up to this point have left her raising both children on her own, pay check to pay check. These decisions obviously affect Sam as she matures into a young adult. I would have to say that two things really pop out in this coming of age story, one, first kiss, and two, losing your virginity. Both of these things were glossed over in this young adult story, of course, you infer that they happened but give the reader Sam's emotional reactions to these major events in a young woman's life instead of side-stepping over them. If you are looking for a more meatier, more grown-up coming of age story, I would skip this one....more

I would consider this romance definitely young adult, but, with some explicit sex scenes I would say not for tweens. Miss Hoover's writing style is definitely YA and follows the typical 'boy meets girl and falls in love but obstacles prevent that from going smoothly until they don't' storyline. The story unwinds through chapters that happened six years prior to present day in Miles' life, what's preventing him from falling in love with Tate, Curtis' sister. Curtis, Miles, and Tate are all very nice people and it's a quick and pleasant audiobook with good narrators....more

This was a wonderful heart-warming story of an unlikely friendship that turns into a very strong bond. Lenni, hospitalized and dying at age 17, meets Margot who is also in the hospital, at age 83. You might think this story is about dying but it's just the opposite. It's a story about the power of friendship and love and how sharing hardships and difficult times can actually soften unpleasant memories. There are some funny bits with Pastor Arthur as well. I also enjoyed the narration and the Scottish accents....more

So, you live in a church with an 8 foot statue of Jesus on a living room wall. So, what do you do? You dress him up as a Packer's fan and call him Cheesus Christ. Some funny stuff in this otherwise dark family drama. I did enjoy this, the characters are likeable with all of their quirks and faults. Young Adult...more
