Because his work is an open door to the heart of a conflict (identitarian,political,geographical,human...) that spans for too long a time and allows you to witness its effects from the inside. Intertwined by destiny, his characters are a ticking bomb, keeping secrets,needs and history silent trying to go on with their lives until everything bursts out and there is no going back,no moving on and nobody left unscathed.

Echoing Of Mice and Man, in this story Martin McDonald gets us as close as possible to the deepest,darkest abyss. There is no hope left and sometimes after reading a certain scene you find your lungs are reluctant to go on working. Yet, as always he manages to compel compassion for characters that are way beyond right and wrong. Unsettling but highly recommendable.
