Perfect for student athletes who dream of the NBA with lots of sports action. I thought about this book a lot when I was reading it (and when I wasn't reading it) and was excited enough by a player fouled while shooting to yell "AND 1!" more excitedly in my car than the audiobook narrator did :) I do think the slang is already somewhat outdated and will date the book quick.
I will say the audiobook narrator added NOTHINGGG to this for me. It was hard to differentiate voices from each other and sometimes even from differentiating dialogue from narration. I question the narrator's pronunciation of takis as "tackeys" (it really did take me out of the narrative to ruminate on whether it's me or the children who are wrong). ...more

It reminds me of some of the best sci fi and fantasy plot points from the last couple decades (Game of Thrones, Hunger Games, etc.)
But the strength of that is also the problem for me-I feel like I saw every twist and turn coming. My husband and I were listening to it on audio and early on there's a part that says something like "but that won't be something we have to worry about for years!" and we looked at each other and rolled our eyes because surprise! Of course it'll be something they have to deal with much sooner-who saw that coming? Me, I saw that coming. And I am not even that good at solving mysteries....more

But I found the audio on Hoopla and I think this is the book that it read the audio of? It's all very confusing.
At any rate, this book's takeaways were great and helpful! I do think I would have done better with the unabridged version because it felt like I had to pay rapt attention AT ALL TIMES while listening to this or I would miss something. Also, the ideas didn't feel quite as reinforced as I usually like because it was supposed to be the express version of the book. All that being said, this has more to do with me than the audio. It's just good stuff to know going in....more
