Little more than a novella, this was a short but fantastic psychological thriller. I couldn't decide on these 2 guesses: if Sarah was "crazy" in the style of The Woman in the Window; or if the others were trying to make her look "crazy" in the style of The Breakdown.
The first part wasn't anything special and I couldn't understand the reason for the excelent reviews it's getting but then came the second part and, OMG! I got it!
(view spoiler)[First surprise: knowing about Sarah's disorder and that Lawrence, supposedly wasn't real!
Second surprise: the shrink doctor was against Sarah and making her look crazier, in her experiments to, supposedly again, try to cure her. And Lawrence was real! A real bastard, too.
Third surprise: Eric was dead, Sarah only imagined him. I had the idea, at the beginning, that maybe her children died and she was just imagining them, but no, the children were real, the husband wasn't...

When I looked at the cover of 'A Vintage Wedding' I immediately disliked the girl on it but it's a book by Katie Fforde and I have been loving her books, this couldn't go wrong.
But it did... Not terribly wrong, it wasn't that bad. It just wasn't as lovely, adorable and enchanting as the previous books I read. I couldn't even connect with the characters.
I had my mind set on reading 'The Perfect Match' and not 'A Vintage Wedding...more

I didn't expect it to be so sad and difficult, with Joel and Saif being unnecessarily stubborn and Colton's hard circumstances .
(view spoiler)[I didn't expect Colton to be still alive. I really thought he had died in the time between the previous book and this... It was so sad to see how much he was suffering and then die... I understand and realize how important it was to see him reconcile with his family, but still...
At least, Flora didn't loose her baby.
And I'd prefer that Saif knew what happened to his wife, so that he was over that part of his life before starting a new life with Lorna. Imagine his wife appears someday? (hide spoiler)]
It didn't correspond with my expectations but it was a beautiful story and I'm very sorry to say goodbye to Mure....more

Happening in the 4 days before Christmas day, we follow Lizzy who leaves her family and goes to a hut in the beach for some me-time. There she meets a group of special people, whose present circunstances aren't easy too. Strangers they are, but they are exactly what all they needed to get on a new track in life.
This was such a heart warming story. It was so easy to love all these characters and it was a precious reading....more

The main protagonist, Nell, was ok but not the kind of character who I want to read about. The plot was promising but lost its power to capture the interest. All of it was very meh, acceptable and not more.
(view spoiler)[And, absurd, Nell goes through an emergency surgery and, after leaving the hospital, goes up to her house's roof to make repairs? Wow - how we mere mortals would like to be that strong... Also, she's the one who confronts the killer, almost getting herself killed - again. (hide spoiler)]...more

I expected more from this book because the reviews have been so good, so raving. The essence of the story, in itself, is good but I found the writing so slow that any enthusiasm I had faded away. I liked very much Alice, the main character and I wished things were different, (view spoiler)[I was sorry that Nathan was such a bad guy... I honestly hoped he was serious when he assured Alice he wasn't cheating on her. He wasn't, at least not with another person, but he was tricking her to get money. And he did the same to Beth some years ago...
Well, at least Alice and Beth are still friends. I really thought the story went in a direction in which Beth was the villain, exacting a strange sense of revenge on Alice... (hide spoiler)]...more

This was a good book, with a great archaeological adventure, but it missed that something special that only the Pendergast character himself adds to the other series.
Nora and Corrie featured some funny scenes, mainly because they didn’t get along well. I had some trouble following the story about the Dower Party because there were too many names of people and I couldn’t follow it all. The book had some creepy moments, about cannibalism, ghosts, mysterious lights in the night and let’s add the murders, this was all so delicious to read about LOL ...more

Foi pena que, oficialmente, não foram feitas acusações sobre o assassinato de Hannah, que esse caso não fosse completamente deslindado e acusações feitas - ainda que a assassina tivesse morrido.

It had me guessing from the beginning what happened in that house so many years before. It was all so very mysterious. I loved the suspense created by the chapters narrated by a male character describing the (lunatic) events of so many years before and the chapters from the point of view of Libby in the present.
All of the revelations were so unexpected, some weren't anything close to what I expected but all were good. (view spoiler)[It was such a surprise that Lucy was Libby's mother and I would never guess that or that Phin was the father, not David! Since the part where Henry is learning from Justin about the herbs, I guessed he was responsible for his parents and David's deaths, but it was still terrible to confirm this guess... Those poor children, how they suffered in that house... David was such a terrible, awful man... Lucy had me feeling so sorry, at the beginning of the book she was homeless with 2 young children...
I was happy with the end: Libby finding her birth family, with siblings, mother and uncle; she's going to meet her father too and, hopefully, he'll be a good parent to her; and she's found love. (hide spoiler)]

Since the beginning I was interested in Diana's and Lucy's stories and the chapters narrated by both, was a very good way of doing it. I felt sad and so sorry for the misunderstandings between Lucy and Diana. If only they had said the right things, the very same things they were thinking, maybe their relationship had been different.
I was very surprised by the end and the revelation of what happened to Diana, the circumstances of her death. I didn't expect that...
(view spoiler)[I was betting more on Patrick being Diana's murderer or even someone outside the family... I was afraid that the killer was Lucy or Ollie, because I really liked this couple and didn't want one of them to be the bad guy... But I never thought it was Nettie that killed her mother... I admit I had a soft spot for Vanessa and Nathan, these 2 characters were the most sweet darlings.
There was a part that I found a little bit boring, too descriptive in Kate’s emotions about her mother’s death and reminiscences of her past as a child, growing up in her family’s cottage, but the rest of the book was better.
From the synopsis I had an idea about the couples that were going to appear but the author reserved some surprises in that regard. At first I was confused but it was easy to understand that, what the author did, it was perfect for all of the characters. (view spoiler)[From the synopsis, I hoped Sam and Kate would be a couple. I never enjoyed Scotland as much as I did with this book. Although it's set in a ficcional Scotish island called Mure, and not in Scotland proper. The characters were lovely, the plot (a romance and issues with family) was engaging and this was a happy reading for me....more
