I loved how the characters sounded like they were talking to readers. That made the read very easy and fast paced. I enjoyed each and everyone’s views. Each character was well developed. I liked how the author portrayed each kid’s personality. Some kids were nice and some weren’t. Some were only nice in front of adults. I liked Summer. She’s very mature for her age. She didn’t fall into peer pressure on having a boyfriend or become part of the popular group. She also gave August a chance because he was alone. I loved August’s family. They’re definitely a role model for a loving family. It’s good for young readers to get to know different types of family in this book besides the perfect loving family. I also enjoyed the friendship story.
This book started with August aka Auggie, 10. He’s been homeschooled this whole time. He has had multiple surgeries since he was born. He was born with a cleft palate and other small anomalies. His parents decided to send him to school starting fifth grade. He wasn’t ready because he’s afraid of bullying. His mom took him to see the school anyway and he got to meet three students in his grade: Jack, Julian, and Charlotte. They gave him the grand tour. He decided then that he would go to school because he thought Jack was nice. The second view was Olivia aka Via, 14, Auggie’s older sister. Via grew up orbiting the sun who’s Auggie and she’s okay with it. Her brother needed his parents attention and Via grew up independent of her parents guidance and hands-on. The third view was Summer, 10. Summer sat with Auggie at lunch that first day because she felt bad for him. Later she continued to sit with him because he’s nice and fun. They hang out at each other’s house after school and do homework together. Their moms became friends. The fourth view was Jack. Jack befriended August in the beginning because he was asked to and he felt bad. Then he fell out of friendship with August because he failed the peer pressure. Later he defended August in a surprising way and earned his friendship back. The fifth view was Justin, Via’s boyfriend. He came from a divorced parents where his family was the opposite of overprotective as compared to August’s family. The sixth view was Miranda, an old best friend of Via. Via thought her best friend changed starting high school and felt upset and left out so their friendship became distant. Miranda had her reasons. This book followed August surviving fifth grade as a new student at an institution with a facial anomaly.
Wonder was well written and a fun and inspiring read. I’m glad my 10 year old loved reading this book and series. The teacher’s precepts were great. I liked how caring the school director was. The story on bullying was good. I dislike bullying but they exist in real life so it’s good for young readers to get a glimpse of it. This book was packed with good advices about being kind and being good as well as having sympathy for others. This book was inspiring also because August was brave to stop homeschooling and start learning at an institution where he’ll be the center of attention and not at all in a good way. But he survived the whole school year and as time went by, good win over bad and that was so heartwarming. I cried at many parts in this story. We don’t get to choose how we look like after we are born so it’s sad when some of us don’t born looking normal. I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the books. I have read the picture book for my toddler before and loved it. I highly recommend everyone to read this book!

Then he has second thoughts thinking he wasn’t good enough so he set out to help his mom wash the dishes that were already cleaned, decorate the Christmas tree that was already decorated... well he gives it a bit more mess to it rather than doing a good job haha then he got tired and go to sleep. He’s too excited for Santa so he tried to stay up to watch out for Santa to explain to him that he was a good cat. I read this book along with many other Bookstagrammers. It’s my first book club/group read. It’s fun and I recommended it. RustRead this book in 2020.
I read this book along with many other Bookstagrammers. It’s my first book club/group read. It’s fun and I recommended it. Rusty was a unique character. I admired the career he chose for himself. It took balls to do what he did. I’m surprised his daughter Charlie did somewhat of the same. She had more balls because she went to collect her fees at night in those neighborhoods. Sam chose the normal lawyer path I would have chosen for myself because it’s safe and earn big bucks. This book sure taught me a lot of law and medical conditions. I like Sam’s comeback to all the male dominance in the courtroom. I like smart clever characters and this book has them. I’m not used to kids calling their parents by name and it’s more of a shocking to me when they swear at their dad. Ben was so sweet and thoughtful! Jimmy Jack’s vocabularies was hilarious.
This book started with what happened to Samantha in 1989. Samantha’s father, Rusty, was an attorney representing all of the worst kinds of people in town. The consequences of his job was the danger his family ultimately faced. Then the story began, 28 years later, told in the third person point of view following Charlotte (Charlie), 41, currently a defense lawyer. She’s now married but there’s a mystery to their partnership. She went to the town’s middle school to return the phone when gunshots started. Of course Rusty will be the lawyer for the shooter, because he represented clients who looked guilty. The story switched gears and told about what happened to Charlotte, going back when she was 13. The second view was Sam, 44, successful lawyer in New York. She came home after 20 years because Charlie needed her. While in town, she had the family bond she lacked the last 28 years.
The Good Daughter was a fantastic read! Definitely fast paced. I loved the unique style of this author’s writing because she provided both views to the same scene. (Though, horrific as it was, I would have preferred to read through it once haha). This must be her specialty because I noticed the dual views to the same scene to the book I read last year, The Last Widow. Boob sweat, omg, the sisters relationship was wild. As smart as they both were, it’s funny when one tried to correct the other. Many twists at the end I didn’t see coming. I liked the search warrant scene. Charlie was so sharp minded and clever about the rights citizens have. The characters in this story were great and the plot, though intense, were well written. I recommend everyone to read this book!

I loved the story of Lily both adult and teen. She’s a responsible character even at a young age. I enjoyed the banter between Lily and Ryle and Atlas as well as Lily and Atlas’s friends. I liked Ellen’s role in this book because I also loved watching Ellen’s shows long ago. I loved how the title played in this story. The twists was good and it came slow when readers least expected it. Lily’s thought process were excellent when she evaluated what was happening to her as each event occurred and then compared herself to her mom so vividly. I enjoyed the author’s note at the end of the book.
This book started with Lily, 23 as she sat on a ledge at the top of an apartment building. She’s having a quiet time reflecting on her father’s recent death and her disastrous eulogy. Her father was a mayor, owner of a real estate, and husband to a teaching assistant, but he beat his wife in the privacy of his own home. Without warning, someone barreled in to the rooftop and slammed the door. Not noticing her there, he let off steam by kicking the lawn chair nearby. Later as he was calming down, he began to notice her and asked her to get down from the ledge. He said just recently someone fell to their death from there. She got off and they got to exchange with each other some naked truths to comfort each other. Lily learned his name was Ryle and he’s almost done with school to become a neurosurgeon. He’s into one-night stands because he didn’t want to settle down. He wanted to focus on his career. Lily wanted to open a floral shop but worried people wouldn’t take her seriously due to her name and wasn’t interested in one-night stands. In between, Lily read through her diary entries from when she was 15. She wanted to remember her dad growing up to find something good in him to forgive him and the memories of her first love with a homeless. She thought she would not see Ryle again after that unplanned meeting on the rooftop but she was wrong.
It Ends With Us was well written and narrated. It’s fast paced and easy to read/listen. I loved the humor. There were some fun romance in this book. One part I didn’t like so much was how Ryle and Lily only address their injuries after they did it. It showed their priorities for romance exceeded their well-being. Atlas was definitely swoon worthy. Alyssa was a great friend. This book offered some great life advices. I liked the mother daughter relationship, especially without the dad around. I need another epilogue point 2 just for Lily and Atlas now that they have stopped swimming. The rave around this author and this book is real. It’s my first audiobook and read from the author and it won’t be my last. I do recommend everyone to read this book also!

It was originally published in 2007 by Razorbill, an imprint of Penguin Group, paperback, 288 pages. The genres are young adult, social themes, and realistic fiction. This book is intended for readers ages 12 and up, grades 7 and up.
My Experience: I started reading Thirteen Reasons Why on 4/21/17 and finished it on 4/23/17. I am again, super happy to have done a buddy read on this book with Debbie @ Debbie’s Library! I’m thrilled to have read two books with her where we both ended up loving it. I really like reading this book and ended up reading late into the night. I couldn’t put it down. Suspense is what kept me going and I wanted so badly to know who’s next and what happens.
“how important is your security? your privacy? Maybe it’s not as important to you as it was for me, but that’s not for you to decide. p.89
In this book, readers will follow the point of view of Clay Jensen, a fellow high school student and classmate of Hannah Baker. Hannah recorded 7 cassette tapes of her life where she explained 13 of her reasons. As Clay listens to Hannah’s tapes, he follows to each spot where events happened in her life. He wants to know Hannah’s reasons because he has had a crush on her for a long time but was afraid to speak up. This book is an awesome read because as Clay was listening to Hannah on the tapes, I feel like I am actually hearing her voice rather than reading it and I just couldn’t get enough!
“Now, suddenly, even my own thoughts were being offered up for ridicule. p.192
This is one book where I can’t mention too much without accidentally revealing the details. I love the plot and characters. I love the cassette tapes concept. It brings my reading experience to a unique level. Every so often, I didn’t care for Clay’s commentary so much because it throws me off balance. I find myself re-reading passages because I was lost on who’s voice I’m following. There were some decisions that Hannah made I don’t agree to, especially her joining Courtney & Bryce’s after party and getting into the car with the cheerleader when she tried to avoid her before. That’s asking for trouble. This book is an excellent read nonetheless and I highly recommend everyone to give it a read!
Pro: suspense, humor, realistic fiction, bring awareness, page turner, fast-paced, couldn’t put down, easy to read
Con: a bit confused when Clay’s thoughts jumped in everywhere and unexpected
I rate it 5 stars!

I am again buddy reading this book wiI started reading Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Sea of Monsters on 2/12/2019 and finished it on 3/7/2019. I am again buddy reading this book with my son, though he has a 100 pages head start since he finished book 1 before me. This book is a great read. The Gray taxi sisters reminds me of the Knight Bus from Harry Potter, with their reckless driving skills. This book Percy also dreams of seeing but not believing whether what he sees is real or just a dream. In the first book, Percy dreams of the underworld, a place where his quest took him. In this book, Percy dreams of Grover being in trouble and it then leads him on his journey there to rescue Grover. I love the humor of the cell phone snakes: Martha & George. The unexpected siblings is interesting as well.
This book is told in the first person point of view following Percy Jackson as he nightmares through a scary dream of monster chasing his friend Grover whom he hasn’t seen since last summer. He is now at a new school and having a new friend named Tyson, another friend that others like to bully and Percy would have to stand up for. On Percy’s last day of seventh grade, a few monsters come by to visit Percy and the school gymnasium got blown off. Annabeth comes to rescue Percy and brings him back to camp Half-Blood. There is trouble at Camp Half-Blood this year where Thalia’s tree (Zeus daughter) is being poisoned. Percy’s favorite Latin teacher, also a centaur Mr. Chiron is being fired and a new unbearable replacement is there. A golden fleece is just what the camp need to cure Thalia’s tree and the quest will be given to the chariot race winner.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Sea of Monsters is very well written and an adventurous read. I like reading this series so far because the read feels personal, as if Percy is talking to his readers. I like how the author let us catch up to Luke and Clarisse at unexpected places. I like the unexpected family ties and the bits of advices on family from Percy’s own realization to Herme’s explanation. I enjoy the adventures in this book with the sirens and the circe. Cyclops are introduced in this story and they resemble those kids who are born with disabilities. It takes awhile for others to adjust to them but I’m glad in the end, people are willing to love one another based on personality rather than their looks. Again, I recommend everyone to read this book!
Pro: humor, fast paced, page turner, actions and adventures, friendship, family
I started reading Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief on 2/1/2019 and finished it on 2/12/2019. I started out buddy reading this bookI started reading Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief on 2/1/2019 and finished it on 2/12/2019. I started out buddy reading this book with my 7 year old son but he finished it before me and took the Advanced Reading test at school on it and scored 100%. This book is an excellent read! I love that it’s fast paced. It’s so easy to read and Percy is really a likable guy despite his troubles with school. I love his bond with his mom. Percy is brave and he doesn’t leave his friends when they are in trouble. I like the friendship he has with Grover. I’m surprised to read “punk coming out of Ares and Gabe’s mouth. I haven’t heard of that word in awhile, but then again, this book publishes back in 2006.
This book is told in the first person point of view following Percy Jackson, 12 years old half-blood and a student at Yancy Academy, private school for troubled kids. Percy doesn’t have an easy time growing up. He has to attend boarding school and live away from his mom. At school, trouble seems to find him and so in six years, he has attended six schools. Recently he sees his math teacher turns into a monster that tries to kill him. It scares his friend, Grover and his mom to the point that he is hauled off to summer camp. This camp is specialize for all Half-Bloods or Demigods; in other words, people who are half human and half God. From camp, Percy finds out who his father is and the reason for the bad weather happening currently. He learns that he must go on a quest to find the stolen weapon that Zeus lost and return to him before the war between the Gods break loose.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief is very well written and action packed. The problem for me reading this book is watching the movie first. The movie doesn’t do the book justice at all. It ruins my enjoyment for the book much more than I thought it would. I like that the book has the basic explanation on who the Gods are and their family ties, like Zeus, Poseidon, Hades, and Kronos. It’s great to read this book to learn about basic Greek mythology. Percy is not a perfect kid with perfect family along with Annabeth, fellow half-blood, and more likely readers can relate to them in some way. I highly recommend everyone to read this book because it’s definitely a book for everyone.
Pro: fast paced, page turner, bravery, friendship, humor, teamwork, challenges, family

I loved Peter as the oldest brother. He seemed fair to Lucy and apologized when he's wrong. I liked how he obtained opinions from his siblings before deciding something. Lucy was sweet and lovable. The animals in Narnia were so nice like the faun and the beavers.
The author narrated the story as if he had witnessed the happenings. He told about the siblings: Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy in that order from oldest to youngest. The children move into an old professor's house for summer break. It was one rainy day that the children played hide and seek indoors when during hiding, Lucy discovered Narnia while hiding in the Wardrobe. The faun, Mr. Tumnus was to kidnap Lucy and bring her to the White Witch but he decided to save her instead. The next child to discover Narnia was Edmund. The White Witch Queen found him and got him hooked on her Turkish Delights. The third visit into Narnia, all four siblings ended up there. One sibling was a spy for the Witch while the other three went to meet the Lion, King of Narnia, to rescue Mr. Tumnus and eventually rescue the spy sibling.

It was published on 2/21/17 by Tor Books, an imprint of Macmillan, hardcover, 624 pages. The genres are fantasy, magic, and fiction. There are 3 books to this series: book 1 is called A Darker Shade of Magic, book 2 is called A Gathering of Shadows, and book 3 is called A Conjuring of Light.
My Experience: I started reading A Conjuring of Light on 10/1/17 and finished it on 10/8/17 at midnight. This book is an awesome read! There were actions and adventures and there were suspense and mysteries. Lila is still reckless and dangerous. She gets to explore her mystery to the fullest potential in this book! I love learning about Holland’s past and his role. I have sympathy for him. I also like how he can mask his feelings whereas Kell shows it all on his face. I like Kell and his attempts at romance. However, Kell’s romance doesn’t seem to have as much connection as Alucard’s romance with his lover. I like Alucard in the previous book as well as in this one. He’s a cool character. I love the bickering between Alucard and Kell, the playful words between Rhy and Alucard, and the banter/flirt between Lila and Kell. They all make me smile. I love the magic in this book!
This book continues directly where book 2, A Gathering of Shadows left off. Kell is struggling for his life in White London against the stronghold of Holland, the second Antari. In the meantime, Rhy’s life is in danger because Kell’s life is in danger. Holland once again is in a battle of his own, fighting to regain control of himself. Lila Bard has a new title in this book. She started out as a thief, then a pirate, and now, possibly, an Antari. From book 2, readers know what Holland brought back with him to White London. The new villain invades Red London and leave deaths along the way. Through many attempts at defeating the villain, Osaron, they will have to set out on an adventure to obtain a device that will capture him once and for all. The trip is a bit dangerous because they are venturing out to an illegal place with a prisoner along for the ride. Rhy, prince of Arnesh and Kell’s brother, definitely step up to the challenge in this book. Actually, many characters are tested for strengths and weaknesses and whether they willing to reunite for the greater good or go their separate ways to protect themselves.
This book is very well written. It’s lengthy but not dull. I enjoyed their strategic discussions. I like their attempts and failures at defeating the villain. I like how the characters, no matter whether they trust each other or not, they find a way to work together. I enjoyed the challenges the characters faced. This book answers almost all of my questions from previous books. I still don’t know Lila’s history with her glass eyes and I still don’t know Kell’s past, but Kell chooses not to know whereas Lila still doesn’t know. This book also left me with questions. I thought part of the Shadow King spread his shadows into Grey London because there were requests of “let me in to Ned Tuttle but it was left opened ended. Also I wonder of White London’s future, who is King? Shades of Magic is definitely an excellent series and I highly recommend everyone to read it!

It was published on 1/17/17 by Tor Books, an imprint of Macmillan, 512 pages. The genres are fantasy, magic, young adult, and fiction.
My Experience: I started reading A Gathering of Shadows on 7/16/17 and finished it on 7/29/17. I enjoyed reading this book. It’s much longer and there is a lot going on. I’m starting to like reading books in the third person point of view because I get to have glimpses into everyone’s feelings and experiences. I love that this book started out with Lila because I couldn’t get enough of her in book 1. She’s definitely reckless. I like her attitude in life, especially when she’s caught but instead of begging to have the opportunity for her to take part in, she challenges the other person that if he turns her in, the consequences will be far worse.
“What a waste of life to stand around and think so much on every little thing. What did it matter why she wanted She simply did. p260
In this book, readers will follow Lila as she finally be able to live her dream of being on a ship at sea. She’s on her own in Red London and it’s no surprise that she able to find her way on board a ship. At sea, she learns magic and awoken the mystery inside of her. Four months later, the ship, Night Spire, comes back to Red London and just in time for Is Essen Tasch (The Element Games), an international tournament between 3 empires. Alucard Emery is a mysterious Captain aboard the Night Spire. Kell is miserable in this book. What he did at the end of the first book is not being rewarded but instead being blamed and punished. He is unable to live his life because it affects Rhy Marish, prince of Red London. Rhy hosts the Essen Tasch and found a way for Kell to compete, a little distraction to his depressing life. The game is exciting to read. There are romances in this book, one unexpected and the other one is short lived. Kell’s mystery background is still a mystery in this book. The surprise with White London is not very interesting to read for me but it’s definitely a build up for book 3. I’m surprised Kell made that mistake in the end because he seems smarter than that, however, with King & Queen Marish’s wretched attitude towards him, I can understand how lonely and vulnerable he becomes and a simple mistake like that can occur.
“everyone talks about the unknown like it’s some big scary thing, but it’s the familiar that’s always bothered me. It’s heavy, builds up around you like rocks, until it’s walls and a ceiling and a cell. p398
This book is a close 5 stars read for me. There were some chapters I find dull, mostly about White London. There weren’t a lot of information on Ojka. I was hoping to learn more about Kell’s background in this book but he’s as mysterious as before. I’m glad Lila explore herself even though she’s no closer in figuring out who she is or what she is. I like Calla and her willingness to help, but I wonder why she keeps quiet and continue help no questions asked. I like the witty banter between Alucard and Lila. I am disappointed for the lack of background stories on many characters but I still find myself reading on because the mystery of who Alucard is and the danger of the Essen Tasch seems exciting especially when there are disguises among the true participants. I was hoping something will happen with Ned but he plays it safe in this book. Overall, this book is still a great read and I do recommend everyone to read this book.

I’m fortunate to have the opportunity to buddy read this book with the awesome Namitha @ Teen Memoir! Please follow the link to her blog to read her thoughts on this book! I love the fantasy and the writing in this book! I like that it’s unlike any other fantasy I have read. The blood magic, to be honest, makes me cringe every time it is being used, but it’s different and I welcome the change! I do like the world building and I absolutely love the humor in this book!
“I’d rather die on an adventure than live standing still.
In this book, readers will follow the point of views of Kell, a magician who can travel between worlds and Lila (Delilah) Bard, a cutthroat and a thief who is looking for freedom. The world building is a bit complicated at first, but as the story progressed, it became clearer. There are 4 Londons: Grey, Red, White, and Black. It’s in a row where Black London has dark magic and Grey London is lacked of magic. Kell is mysterious in this book because he doesn’t know his birth parents. He likes to trade and collect forbidden objects with collectors seeking objects from other Londons and at one point, he ended up with a dangerous magic that he must take it upon himself to get rid of. The mission is nearly impossible to achieve because powerful bad guys are after him for this dark magic and he has to die trying to prevent it from getting into the wrong hands. At the same time, the dark magic is calling to him, and at times, he is cornered to utilizing the magic himself in order to stay alive. This dark magic, however, is looking for a host and Kell has to fight against the magic before it controls him. It’s intense reading this book because it seems like Kell is at a dead end.
“I apologize for anything I might have done. I was not myself. “I apologize for shooting you in the leg. said Lila. “I was myself entirely.
I love the two main characters in this book, Kell and Lila. I enjoy their bickering a lot! I really like Lila because she’s so independent and badass. I like her positive attitudes, confidence, and self-reliant. She lives alone and has to be a thief to survive. She lives in Grey London but always wanted something more. For whatever reasons, she ended up crossing paths with Kell and it brought her the adventures she’s least expected but fully embraced. It’s really awesome following her train of thoughts. There may be no romance in this book but the fun banter makes up for it. I also enjoy Parrish and Gen’s third person point of views of the happenings out on the town when the black magic was spreading. I am so excited to read the next book and find out what Lila is up to. I highly recommend this book to everyone!
