Useful and thought provoking quotes to apply for yourself. This book also accompany the author's questions about you and how you will apply the quotes for yourself. Example: "If you have good thoughts, they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely." Roald Dahl accompanied by "what are three thoughts that made you smile today?" And "I Am Not Afraid, I Was Born to Do This" Joan of Arc accompanied with "What is your greatest motivation in life?" This book is great! It gives you the opportunity to think about yourself and improve yourself and understand yourself better. This book is organized in different fonts and colors so it looks nice. Some loopy fonts are a bit harder to read than others for me anyhow but I like the different shapes and sizes.

I just read through it to know what types of prompts there are. I'm liking them. Just wish I can draw though! I'm afraid to ruin such a pretty book with my bad drawings haha.. but it's definitely something peaceful to do on a quiet day or rainy day or sunny day. I would love to sit under a shaded tree and look at the distance and draw! That's one of the prompts in this book to draw by the way! Specifically "Look into the distance" and "Draw something in the foreground that you can see" and "Draw something in the foreground that you can't see" Some other prompts are "Draw five things you saw today" or "A sky full of raindrops or teardrops" or "Draw the sky from a dream" or "Draw and notice the patterns of seashells" and so many more! Great illustrations!

I took awhile to fill this book out but decided to read through all of the prompts and questions instead. I loved all of the questions and prompts. A great journal slashed diary compilation of your life so far as you entered adulthood. There's a place to document your first apartment, first house, first love, first breakup, first car, first job, and first of everything including a hangover. One thing I don't feel confident in filling out this book is that I can't draw and some interactive prompts ask for drawings. It will look good with some drawings too so I get the need to draw. But let's be honest, we can't all be artistic. Anyway, I filled in some prompts and liked it. I would definitely give this book out to college students because they are experiencing many things mentioned in here and those events are fresh in their memory to write or doodle it down. It's more fun than a plain journal! Oh and, I loved the illustrations in this book!

I liked the bug spray can that says, “please don’t give me advice unless I ask for it and so many others. Advices sneaked into grocery lists and to-do lists were cool. Advices in diary entries and food brands/household products were creative. Being a dog doesn’t sound so bad or a desk plant or a phone or a stamp as mentioned in this book. Fabulous ideas! Loved the different ways the author present advices to readers. Such a fun self-help book because we all know self-help books can often be a bored to read. The illustrations were definitely random because I tried to connect to the words but they don’t relate. It’s fun to see different illustrations anyway.
This book started with an introduction from the author. She wrote this book from her own experiences with mental health. Many illustrations were created during lockdown. Chapter one was How to Not Make it Personal where the author informed readers that we should learn to respond to other people’s opinions instead of taking it personally. In the next few pages that followed will be random illustrations and short sentences of things that bothers you and advices on how to deal inserted in a to-do list/grocery list or a label on a bottle of bug spray. Then chapter two discussed about staying present and paying attention to whatever you are doing but often we do things while thinking of something else. Followed this chapter will be random illustrations, advices given in fun ways like on the label of a bottle of shampoo or a dear diary entry. Chapter three reminded us to be nice to ourselves because most often we are the first to criticize ourselves.
How to Deal: With Fear, Failure, and Other Daily Dreads was well written and creatively organized. Such a neatly packaged book of advices and things we do just because we are human. The errors of what we do that’s not good for us seems to be like something many of us do, such as self-criticism, self-doubt, unwillingness to share our feelings or not being present with yourself/friends. Therefore, this book can be helpful for everyone, if not from chapter one then maybe via chapter two or three or four or five. I liked how colorful this book was and the variety of how info were presented. It kept my attention and I read every word. I highly recommend everyone to read this book!

It will be published on 5/2/17 by TarcherPerigee, an imprint of Penguin Publishing Group, paperback, 272 pages. The genres are humor and self-help.
My Experience: I started reading Adulthood for Beginners: All the Life Secrets Nobody Bothered to Tell You on 4/23/17 and finished it on 4/30/17. This self-help book is truly an awesome read! The introduction is hilarious and already had me laughing out loud. This book started out with a list of 12 points, among them, my favorites are “Regardless of your past, you can always change yourself for the better and “Everyone makes mistakes and you shouldn’t be supershitty to people because of it. I am guilty of doing both and this book is a great reminder not to repeat it.
This book focus on how awesome you are, including putting a post it note on your mirror that says you are awesome so that you can see the note every time you look at yourself in the mirror. There are advices for your inner self, social, dating, work, body, and next-level. Some of my favorites are to develop empathy for others. This is when someone looking very impatient behind you at the supermarket checkout lane or honking their horn on the road. You just think that they have a sick person at home waiting for them to get home and that’s why they are rushing and having a foul mood. I like the advice on making achievable goals. It’s very easy to understand.
In each section, I love the conclusion of mostly good rules to live by. I like this rule, “Just because you were an asshole, it doesn’t mean you still have to be. I like tips on how to make friends and I have shared these tips with a friend who just moved. Great advices on handling social media and what to and not to post. This book has amazing advices on how to party and even how to deal with a hangover. There are advices and dating and ideas on places to go.
Great advices for handling yourself in the workplace. I like advices on how to develop a reputation you want at work and one of the reputation you want is to be nice and not to be shitty in emails. I am guilty of that because when I’m busy trying to get things done and people keep on badgering me for something, I lost my cool and sent an ugly response which I regretted later. I like the list of things that you think don’t matter at your job but do, especially how messy my desk is. I have to make a point to toss my piles of papers to the cabinet when I get to work Monday 🙂
Awesome advices on exercise and eat less crap to feel better. I utilize the drink more water immediately. I love the simple calculation and my son is drinking his water as I type away this sentence! When you realized that a celebrity only looks beautiful because they have a whole team of talented professionals to make them look beautiful, you won’t feel so pressure to look as beautiful as them. I like those advices about not hanging your favorite art with thumbtacks or tape when you no longer live in the dorms. I didn’t mention this in the paragraphs above, but I really LOVE the HUMOR and funny ways the author describe the advices. There isn’t many easy to read self-help books on the market, but this one is my top choice because the humor written from a comedian makes improving yourself much more fun and less of a chore. There is really no dull moment in this book. The advices are amazing and attainable! I highly recommend everyone to read this book and I can already see myself reading this book again.
Pro: funny, tell it like it is, matter of fact, great honest personal tips, easy to read, page turner, fast paced, useful tips, interesting, (some foul language, so I would recommend readers ages 13 and up),
Con: none
I rate it 5 stars!
