BuJane, the main character, is pretty likeable and gets along with children (that's her job, so why wouldn't she?). I didn't have a problem with her. But the romantic interest, Niko, had too much baggage for me to fall in love with him. It wasn't for having a daughter or anything (I loved the daughter! She seemed so adorable!), but it just seemed like his lifestyle was crazy, and I would never be able to put up with someone who lived like that. That's just me.
The reason I give this book three stars (three-and-a-half, really) is because it was simple and easy to read. Nothing else. You won't be thinking about it much after you read it. It's the type of book you pick up when you want some reality and no paranormal crap (THAT was really refreshing, as well. It was filled with reality. I like AU's, but it's a nice break to have).
On a side note: I loved the cover and the characters were well-brought up! Sweet and simple . . . if not a tad boring. Sorry, I got bored with it after awhile. Just warning you. ...more

I DON'T THINK I CAN WARN YOU ENOUGH!!! JUST SAYIN'!!I LOVED this book. Lena was, overall, a likeable character. Though she fell into the whole "I'm nothing special, my self-esteem is the size of a pea" kind of personality. That's the only reason I gave this book four stars. But I didn't mind, really.
And I refuse to believe Alex . . . should I give it away? . . . Oh, alright. I refuse to believe he WAS KILLED!!! Of course, I'm the only one in my circle of friends who thinks so. And I think I'm going to stop loaning my books to others. They just bring me down afterwards! Ha-Ha!...more

Seriously, I feel sorry for him after being picked on by the pack. The wolf pack made me think of the old cheerleaders-eat-with-football-team stereotype. Branch out, Cassa! You're not the most beautiful girl in the world! And this is directed at you, Shay. She's not worth it. Cassa's just stringing along both Ren AND Shay and it's quite disgusting to me.
Did anyone notice how she hated Ren in the first chapter of the book and then all of the sudden she's in love with him??? And then there's Shay. He looks pathetic in my eyes, but Ren's a douche-bag, hands down. The only guy I like in this book was Ansel. His relationship with Brynn was a sweet one, and I really enjoyed reading about it.
That's the only reason this book deserves two stars in my opinion. It was basically based on sex and horny teenage wolves. No one treated each other kindly, everyone was hostile, Ren was a bastard, Shay was pitiful, and Ansel and Brynn stole the show for me. ...more

The ending in City of Glass was perfect enough (though the epilouge was fifty pages long!) and I would've left it the way it was.
The cover isn't very impressive to me. And I don't let the fact that Clary and Simon are on the cover and not Jace and Clary scare me. I TRUST C.C. not to break them up. I'm sure she understands that she'll probably be having hate mail for months afterwards if she does that. I spent three books and a whole summer feeling heartbroken that Clary & Jace couldn't be together because they were "siblings". I will go crazy, I already know, if they break up for some stupid reason this time.
And while I like Simon for comic relief, doesn't C.C. know that all most Mortal Instruments fans care about and want to read more about is Clary and Jace??? I have a feeling I'll be very impatient with this book.... And I don't really care who Simon ends up with (Isabelle or Maia). As long as it's not Clary. Like I said, her and Jace belong together. It's been settled. ...more

I hate to feel selfish, but all I need to get my fill of from this series is Rephaim and Stevie Rae. I liked Zoey at first and thought she was a good role model for teenage girls. And then after she became all mixed up with...wait, let me count for a second how many guys . . . . . FIVE!!!! That makes my head spin, honestly. (And yes, I am counting Kalona.) I hate to say this, but she's beginning to get even more shallow than Aphrodite. And FYI, Z, if you break Stark's heart AGAIN, Neferet won't be the only biatch you'll have to worry about....
Can you tell that my thoughts on Heath are less than satisfactory? To me, Heath and Erik are douche-bags.
And then most heart-breaking thing of this new installment has got to be...hands down...Jack's death. It was awful to read. So depressingly so...poor Damien. Jack was a such a sweetheart and I will miss him in the next five thousands books in this series. The Twins need to go away. They annoy the crap out of me. And I've always liked Aphrodite and she's one of my favs. I love her and Darius together!!!
Rephaim and Stevie Rae...can they have their own spin-off series? That taste of forbidden love has me hooked, and the COVER! That poster is going on my wall. That's the best couple in this series. And I don't care what anyone thinks about their relationship. They're committed and when Rephaim chose love over loyalty...I wanted to cry in delight. FINALLY! Someone makes a decision in a book I like!!!...more

This is one of those books thats fall into**spoiler alert** **SPOILER ALERT** IF YOU'RE ANYTHING LIKE MY FRIENDS DON'T READ THIS REVIEW!!!!
This is one of those books thats fall into the "heroine's too independant for her own good". Don't get me wrong, I'm independant myself and totally believe in making your own decisions and not bending over backwards for some guy, but there's a line between confident and just a little too . . . Crap, I hate cursing . . . bitchy, for my taste.
I didn't like when she almost killed Po for not telling her about the main power in his Grace--being able to read minds when people are thinking about him. Like this is any of Katsa's business, right? And when she fell in love with him . . . why did she think it was necessary to absolutely punish him for being sexy? You're crazy, Katsa. Although I got her whole "I don't want to get married or have kids because it keeps me from doing my purpose . . . but I'll have lots of sex with you anyways, Po, because your hot and I couldn't possibly pass that up!"
Okay, I'm being A LITTLE sarcastic. Po and Katsa are ADORABLE together! I really liked their relationship and I liked Katsa's cousin, as well. Dang it, I forgot his name, but if I can't have Po I guess I'll have him. *shrugs*
Warnings: Implied sexual themes, DEFINITELY VIOLENCE, and a heartbreaking end that made me cry and stomp around like a five-year-old. Yes, they ended up together (and hopefully are still together six yeard later in the Bitterblue installment) but Po went . . . spoiler . . . BLIND!!! I didn't care, though. He's still hotttt. ;)
PS: Kristin, when you're wrighting a book, make sure to make the love interest's name a REAL and actually ACCEPTABLE name. I didn't buy that stupid name orgin of his brother's calling him that and something about a tree . . . eh. It just didn't do it for me. There were so many pretty names in that book and Po gets cursed with that name. Grr. You're killing me! But I still loved the book. I'm not THAT shallow.
**spoiler alert** I loved the plotline starting out in the book, but I got a little impatient with it by the end. I don't like the fact that Scarlett **spoiler alert** I loved the plotline starting out in the book, but I got a little impatient with it by the end. I don't like the fact that Scarlett didn't get a love interest or even a pat on the back for that matter! I have Rosie's personality all the way and she was my favorite, but I felt bad for Scarlett. We all knew she had feelings for Silas, and even though I loved the Silas/Rosie grouping, shouldn't SOME GUY come in and sweep Scarlett off her feet like Silas did Rosie????? Or is Scarlett just too "tough" for that? Let me tell you, Scarlett's still a teenager, no matter how angsty and dramatic her life is.
The only miff I had with Silas and Rosie being together was the age difference. Five years? Really?! And that's not the biggest problem. I usually don't care about age differences. Couldn't Rosie have been eighteen and Scarlett twenty and Silas twenty-three? It would make it a little more . . . Oh, what's the word?-- LEGAL! If they'd had sex, that would've been considered statutory rape, and then I'd feel bad for reading it.
But, I will consider this book one of the greatest reads I've had in 2010. Which is saying something because that's a hard list to get on! :)...more

It's one of those books that don't bring vampires up to be "glittery" or glam up the term of "evil, undead creature." This book states that vampires are evil and should be stopped, and I respect that.
Now, onto the characters. Let's start with the side ones.I actually liked the fact that the team weren't best friends and always looking out for one another. Of course, everyone knows that in the end they'll be singing Kumbaya around the campfire together by the end of the series (depending on if they live to see the end or not!) But it definitely added humor to the book. Yeah, their reluctant teaming was probably the only thing that makes me laugh in this book. It's very serious and dramatic above anything else -- even romance!
Let's go in alphabetical order, here, 'kay? Antonio, the love interest to the main character (Jenn). I had a crush on him, but my heart belonged to Holgar, hands down. He's the vampire, and even though many people don't like they're relationship, I think Jenn and Antonio are cute together. I pity him and feel like giving him a hug while I read this book at some points. Hopefully, his days of "preisthood thoughts" are way behind him. Because that just won't do for me, though I love that he's a Christian. In so many books you hear them saying "I'm too badass for God" blah blah blah. So, he's a keeper for me and I hope the Jenn/Antonio-ship lasts.
Eriko: She's got like five lines in this book, so there's not much to say about her. She was probably the most boring team-member of the group. Her background story is okay, I guess . . . but not really anything compared to Antonio's or Holgar's or Skye's. She's too serious for me to think she'd ever be a friend.
Holgar: Okay, can I just say he's my soul-mate? Do you hear me out there in Spain, Holgar? I'm right here, waiting for you to sweep me off my feet! He was the only one who didn't make me mad once! I loved his personality and his interesing past. I like the friendship between him and Antonio and how much they connect. A lot of it has to do with the fact that they're both creatures of the Underworld, and the other because they both hate Jamie, which makes me love them both! :) I think Skye should be in love with HIM, not Jamie. It's ridiculous for her to be, really. I keep wondering who he likes, and there's hints that it's every girl. I don't care who, he's just my favorite and I can't wait for the sequel mainly because of him.
Jamie: I hate this douche. Everything he says is a slam against either ethnic groups or werewolves or witches or vampires. I laughed so much when Holgar put a deer's head in Jamie's bed. I don't understand his liking for Eriko. The relationships in this book doesn't make much sense. Everyone just has a crush on someone, like it's magic or something. And Jamie, this goes out for you and you alone. There is such a thing as too much jackassness. And you're flirting with that. I hope he gets punched in the face int he next books.
Jenn and Skye: Jenn needs to grow a pair, honestly. She can't keep hiding behind her vampire-boyfriend. I feel terrible for her when her dad hands her over to Aurora and her sister gets turned into a vampire, but her slef-confidence level makes me think she's suicidal or something! She wears me out with her constant personal attacks! And the only reason she's special is because she's the only one who doesn't have a special talent. Even Jamie has super fighting skills. Jenn seems to always mess everything up, yet they all think she's "special" for some weird reason. And Skye, what drugs are you on? What makes you have a crush on JAMIE when HOLGAR is your assigned team-member???!!! You're insane! Although she's probably my favorite female character, aside from Jenn because I'm a redhead and can't help but always defend red-headed femal leads. (They're rare, leave me alone!) :)
Warning: There's cussing, tons of violence, loads of DRAMA, intimate scenes. It's very serious and somewhat sad for me, and only little quips bedtween the teammates makes you laugh. There's not a lot of romance besides Antonio and Jenn, mostly. Wait a flying second!!! Do you think Holgar and Heather could ever be a couple? I know she's a vamp and all and there's a little age difference, but there's always a chance! OMG! I'm a genius!!! ...more

I really didn't think she was a good friend to Lissa, who was still suffering from the loss of her family. But as the book progressed (and Dimitri and Christian certaily helped me love this book ;) I found myself started to like Rose. She's fierce and doesn't take crap from anyone. I guess I'm just more of a Lissa at heart. . . . The book was hilarious and had wonderful love interests and had me running to the store for more! Absolutely, 100% recommend this to any friend. Heck, even a GUY might like it! Just maybe :)...more

But it was quite predictable. The second I saw Elliot and Jules I was like, "They're the murderers." But I kept reading, anyway. I wasn't reading it for them, I was reading it for the awesome-sounding romance that was Patch and Nora, of course!
There were two things I didn't like about this story that I hoped would be resolved in the sequel, Crescendo. (1) I hated Vee. It was like every time Nora wanted advice about Patch, she'd immediately say he was bad news and she hated him. Blah, blah, and BLAH! It's impossible to hate PATCH! He made me laugh every time he said anything. (2) Probably has a lot to do with (1), because Nora was always blaming Patch for every little thing that went wrong in her life! Give the dude a break, Nora! He's only fallen-angel!
Don't know if this is considered spoiling or not, but I'll put up the warning, anyway.

The thing was, after reading TMI and getting sucked into the Shadowhunter's modern-day world . . . I knew I was going to compare the prequel to the orginal series. I know myself too well, because that's exactly what I did. Sorry to the fans of this new trilogy, but I just didn't get it. Don't hate me! :(
Now, I have some praises and complaints about this first book to a trilogy I couldn't wait to get my hands on. *Notice I put "couldn't". Past tense*. I'll start with the pros. (1) I liked the plot, actually. I also loved the Vicotrian setting and I loved London when I visited there so I thought CC (Cassandra Clare) would praise it for its beautiful ammounts of architectural values and history. I just loved the basis. (2) She made the actions of the characters and how real people acted back then accurate. Everyone was proper (except for Will, of course!), even the Shadowhunters themselves. If you read the TMI series, you'd know these characters run circles around TMI's character kindness! (3) Not really a praise, but I usually hate love-triangles because you mainly always know who the person's going to end up with. I only read this book with a potential lov-triagnle because TMI was too good to NOT read the sequel!
I tried to think of a third thing I liked about it, but I just couldn't! The cons outweighed the pros, to my dismay. (1) When I mentioned the beauty of London . . . Yeah, CC definitely has some New York pride in her blood. Which I love, because it tells me she loves her city. But London's nice, too! And I got annoyed when all Tessa (the main character) could do was whine about the rain and smell. Like New York City didn't smell bad back then, either? (2) I couldn't find myself to like any of the potential love interests. Will didn't have Jace's . . . ability to be kind and have a "just joking" attitude when he was being sarcastic. I found myself getting digusted by some of the things he told his friends. And Jem . . . so far the only interesting thing about him is his illness. As bad as that sounds, he really needs to come up with something interesting to say or I'm giving up on him altogether. And Jessamine's reluctant attitude about the Shadowhunters threw me off a bit. I don't like it when characters complain so much, so she was an immediate dislike for me. I knew she was based off of Isabelle, like Will was based off of Jace and Jem was Simon and Tessa was Clary *yawn*, but Isabelle was very loyal and protective. Jessamine, to me, is just a pain in the arse! No offense!
Overall, I didn't like it. It was a dissapointment and the only thing I like is Clare's ability to write detail without making it boring. The best thing about it BY FAR was the one and only Magnus Bane. I love him to death and he was the only reason why I didn't put the book down . . . or throw it across the room. ...more
