Three scenarios with naming the new baby three different names . An interesting premise , a different kind of read , I thought . I couldn’t help but want to know how the stories of this family would be different with different names . They were except for the spousal abuse that remains constant and is difficult to read about no matter how the stories varied . Done with it even though I thought the writing was good.

This one is based on a true story of how a young black prostitute was sexually abused by police officers . This is a debut novel written by a seventeen year old girl and there’s a lot to praise here , but reading about the abuse was just too much for me so I’m giving up at a third of the way through . Please read the other reviews because it’s an important story. I’m not going to rate it since I didn’t finish .

I couldn’t finish this . It’s really too much - how awful this family treats this autistic boy, except the father , but . Too much sadness and events I couldn’t finish this . But, the next day! I couldn’t stop thinking about 14 year old Wes and I wanted to know what happened to him, but I still didn’t want to read some of the disturbing scenes, so I did something I never do - went to the end and read the last few pages . I felt better, but still sad that it took a tragedy and near tragedy for this family to accept this boy and I can’t erase from my mind how he was treated for 14 years. I’m still not going to rate it since I didn’t read the entire book.

A recognized Russian author, a description that seemed like one I’d enjoy, a family saga, but I’m giving up at 37%. Just too DETAILED. So detailed, that there were passages that I have to admit I skimmed and when I found myself continuing to do that, I decided to give up . We get the stories of these characters in pieces so I had a hard time connecting emotionally with any of them. Maybe I’m just not in the mood for the philosophical and intellectual tone of the book. It’s summer - on to something lighter . No rating because I didn’t finish it.

This was a monthly read along with Diane S and Esil and we agreed to move to another book. I kept thinking that I wasn't loving it because I just don't read very much non fiction so I was relieved they were just as ready to move on. I felt a little overwhelmed with dates and facts and events and couldn’t keep track of the people. There were in these five chapters some things I found interesting - the involvement of the women in the arts and politics, the descriptions of some of the places , especially Venice and the mention of Caserta where I visited the palace there a number of years ago. I like Amelia and also felt for her at times and I like her son Nello - he starts a children's library ! BUT It was just too dry, so no rating since I didn’t finish. I’m just not the audience for this style of writing.

I'm giving up on this after reading the first five stories in this collection and part of the sixth. It's not that I wasn't moved by these characters I'm giving up on this after reading the first five stories in this collection and part of the sixth. It's not that I wasn't moved by these characters because I was. It's not that the writing isn't good because it is. It's just that the dark and sometimes disturbing nature of the stories pushed me to the edge of my comfort level and I'd rather read something else . Since I did not finish it , I won't rate it or give more of a review than this.
