The story wasn’t novel by any means but it was good enough to easily finish (I’m struggling to finish books nowadays so this is a feat in itself!). Both MCs have problems per usual by what I love about it is didn’t define these characters as if the only thing that will make them interesting are these issues. As Hannah (girl MC) said: she is a survivor.
The romance was pretty ok. I didn’t expect anything profound or anything similar but I did like the banter, or as Garret described, bickering. Anyway, it’s a good romance, not the best but it is something you shouldn’t miss out if you are in need of a fun NA read. ...more

But she did have issues, more personal, self-made, but it did get in the way. The guy, well, he had it but the story didn’t focus on each other baggage as if to camouflage the characters lack of depth & personalities. It actually centered on them and the kind of relationship they were about to enter. Girl’s insecurities plus the guy’s novice to relationships, it wasn't looking very bright at first. Something was bound to stir the developing relationship. But it was more of the girl’s fault than the guy. The guy’s reluctance? It was totally warranted and rational reaction. She dropped him like a hot potato of course he’ll choose self-preservation. But lesson learned, love ruled and so there was that. Who opposed to HEA anyway? Definitely not me!

But this isn’t about me, it’s about the book, so I’m going to suppress the happy feelings and get onto it. So I read Make it Count by Megan Erickson and it was cool. It was fun to read. It has the same vibe like but unlike the latter, this feels close enough with NA bunch I read before but still firmly different from the rest. Why so? It’s not full of angst and yes, while the characters have their fair share of college blunders and of course, love trials, it’s not that overly complicated for me.
Kat needs a tutor, after the last one gave up on her. The new tutor, well he was an irresistible and very, very…not possible. Not only that Alec, the new tutor, is hot but he is also her boyfriend’s friend. But it seems the feelings are mutual but will they do it? Will she betray her boyfriend? Will he do it to his friend? Even though Alec saw firsthand how he sometimes treated her. But are those things enough to act on it? Is it worth it? And it also looks like Kat academic problem wasn’t simply just her tutors, perhaps it’s her? And she needed to find out more about herself and to know what really could be the problem.
The story wasn’t difficult and the romance wasn’t so much intriguing compare to what I had in mind. Like I said, less angst this book has. And I think that’s a good thing. Also I liked that Kat wasn’t just merely distracted, there was something more than just a simple confusion on numerical data than what she thought. I liked that she sought out on the possibilities.
As for the romance? It was fine, the cheating was…am I’m going to be ok with it? I’m not sure. It depends? My firm policy is to break it off before launching yourself to someone. I know that the sexual tension was so thick but even though her boyfriend can be dickwad sometimes (and well he also did something like it before, to his best friend no less), I still think that making it official is a responsible thing to do. Besides, that boyfriend of hers did something redeeming at the end (which turns out he’s off as the new lead of the next book). I guess my grumbles are much better placed on the back burner, after all everything works out in the end.

I didn’t expect it to, but I did. I just found it strange that Noel talked to Aspen like that. I was a TA before for a college professor and the students still treated me with respect. And I also taught high school seniors, they were overly friendly (because I'm young) but I still put a limitation. I was still their teacher. I also didn’t like how their football coach did to Aspen. She might have broken a rule, but she still deserved respect. A warning like he did, putting her picture for everyone to see was really disrespectful. Anyway, those two were my major gripes, everything else is I guess ok.
But as I said, I liked it. I liked Aspen and Noel. Frankly, I liked this better than the first book. ...more

Exactly as it is. Predictability aside, I liked the simple story of her finding true love, of him showing her how, and her learning about it. I think the length and pace of the book did degrade the story. It would’ve been better if I saw her with him more and him proving it solidly to her instead of her being with the wrong guy. But I love all's-well-the-ends-well kind of ending, so what’s there to complain, really; I wanted a fluff and I got it. ...more

When I head straight to Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ to dig further, I found out that this book was a collaboration of YA author that wrote one of my favorite series: Under the Never Sky. Yes, Veronica Rossi is one of the people responsible for this uber enjoyable book, along with Lorin Oberweger. This wasn’t what I expected at all and that turned out in a very good way.
From the get-go the book already grabbed my attention. Mia and Ethan decided to hook-up one night. The awkward morning after was composed of more nudity (because she wasn’t embarrassed of her birthday suit, let’s put it that way) and a missing hot pink panty with butterfly design. But things got more interesting when they found out that they were heading to the same place. And get this, vying the same position! So yes, that blew awkward phase into more interesting situation, hah!
Maybe I’m so used with NA books that deals with the usual hot and heavy stuff (by hot and heavy, I mean tragic past and too much sexy scenes) but this one was so different. The first few page got me by the hook and I can easily identify Mia and Ethan from just the little glimpse I got from the beginning. Both of them had this weird connection and fun dynamics that really had me snickering from time to time. Especially when they found out that they were both eyeing the same but very important thing. Oh boy did that heat things up.
One of the things I’m really intrigued was the night before it happened. The details were scattered throughout, and through the little reveals that I got to piece on what has happened between them that led to the night prior to that awkward morning. And although I think it was more than them having one too many drinks, it was good to know what really did happen and why it happened in the first place. Get my gist?
There were more than corporate competitions, bringing up an ex in what looked like career sabotage than meet the eye. Ethan and Mia brought so much colors in what I assumed first was a very light and fun read (which it turned to be so much more than that). It was really fun and after all that shenanigans in between they manage to land something unexpected in both in their career and personal lives. Yeppers, it was so entertaining!
