I picked this up on clearance at a used bookstore, and I'm so glad I took a chance on it.
It was spooky, creative, action-packed, clever, and (sometimes a little too) gross. I liked the main character and her friends, and that cliffhanger at the end was massive and amazing!
I'll be reading more in this series soon. ;)...more

I consider myself a PNW girly, but I know very little about northern Washington geography and even less about local Native history. This book gave me a little bit of a crash course on both which was cool. It also made me nostalgic for the weather and the beaches and just how cold it can get there.
Maisie was an interesting main character, and I loved her close-knit, goofy family. The themes of mental health, letting go, and moving forward resonated with me and I shed a few tears. I think this book could be very helpful to children going through big changes in their lives. <3...more

Sci-fi rooted in a contemporary setting, this was a cool experience of military kid life crossed with some really fun stuff. I can't say much without spoilers, but clever kids, low-tech and high-tech gadgets, and an X-Files-esque mystery made for a fun read.

I love me a good post-apocalyptic setting, so the world building was fun. I also enjoyed the quest-based storyline and the themes of God always providing.
Unfortunately, there were some outdated stereotypes and wording. There was also a Southern character who was very much into the Civil War and doubtful of the Black character. It was also very referential to other fantasy....more

The Black Panther movies are my favorite in the MCU, so I decided to pick this up, expecting it to just be a fun filler novel. What I got was so much more! More Shuri, alternative lore for small details (including the dome), other characters from the comics, some new additions (K'Marah was great), and geeky, geeky tech. I especially loved the coming-of-age storyline for Shuri, and I think this makes the events of the second movie even better.
I'm not sure yet if I'll read more in this series, but I did enjoy this one. <3
