Serenity has special powers, or does she? She turned her ability to talk with spirits into a television show. The story has spirit guides, poltergeist, lonely partners - it has it all and puts a lot into a short amount of space.
I listened to this on audiobook - the narrator was easy to listen to and there were even a handful of sound effects.
I recommend taking a few minutes to read this story by Jodi Picoult.

I grew up watching Dangerfield and found his one liners funny, sometimes bawdy, and occasionally stupid.
The book begins with the history of Dangerfield's family and his roots in vaudeville. It was a bit like reading a newspaper article without any emotion thrown in.
By the end of the book, I was bored and ready for it to be done. It was sprinkled with Dangerfield's one liners and that made it interesting, Dangerfield was a prolific joke writer.

Reading this was instantly calming and yet opened up a new world to the reader. I even tried to see if the author had written any other books (but couldn't find any - she should though).
It was a story about staying - staying with places, with friends, with ideas, with ideals. And about the leaving that goes on around us everyday all the time. Staying isn't for everyone just as leaving isn't for everyone - there needs to be a balance.
Read this and learn about yourself as you compare and contrast yourself with the author.

Cherry wants to pursue her dream - a dream on the stage singing and playing. As a young girl she discovers that her mom was one of the famed Griffin Sisters. As Cherry pursues her dreams, the book recounts the story of Cassie and Zoe (The Griffin Sisters).
The back story was so well told and interwoven with the story of today, that I was entranced. This was a book that was hard to put down. The character development was excellent. It was a compelling story - after all, who of us haven't wished for fame and fortune?
I would recommend this book to everyone - would make a great beach read. It was lighthearted with some drama and a great moral.

Sarah and Richard Lingate, his brother Marcus and his wife Naomi - and then there is Sarah's baby, Helen.
While the story often centers around Helen, it is divided into chapters about each of them narrating events.
I was totally engrossed in this book with all its twists and turns kept me on the edge of my seat. Just when I was settled in and enjoying a new storyline, it flipped and changed my thinking entirely.

There was plenty of glamour within the story and lots of stories that wound together. As a bonus, Emma is making a film about the jewels in this same era when she calls upon an old family friend, Oliver Wendall Shaw, to help her with some history. As the story goes back and forth (although most of it was directly Doris (Dodo) and Barbara (Babbo). With a couple of twists at the end, this was a fun read.
I did feel, however, that this book was just way too long and at times there was far too much detail in the telling that bogged it down. I would still recommend it (just skim over the parts you might find too detailed).

I hadn't even paid much attention to her life beyond that she married John Lennon.
What a great biography. It didn't get bogged down in any one thing and was just the right length. But it made me want to look up her art and music. The book is divided into decades of her long life. Primarily before John, during John and after John. It talks about her as a person not as Mrs. Lennon. She is a person of such depth and greatness on her own.
I recommend that everyone read this and learn more about this amazing woman.

Elinor marries well, or so everyone thought. There are lots of books around the Titanic, but Quinn makes this one come alive in a very different way.
Elinor marries well, or so everyone thought. Her life becomes so unbearable - until she boards the Titanic with her husband, son and her wealthy father. We all know what happens to the Titanic - it's what happens after that that creates the plot of the book. I don't want to give anything away - but this was an easy read that kept my interest throughout until the very end. It is all about the twists and turns of the story. The characters are so well written that I felt like I could be sitting in the kitchen having a cup of tea with them. I highly recommend this book for a good read that you can escape into.

JoJo Moyes always seems to write books that are well liked. This one is no exception for me.
Lila, a mom, daughter, stepdaughter, friend and reluctant JoJo Moyes always seems to write books that are well liked. This one is no exception for me.
Lila, a mom, daughter, stepdaughter, friend and reluctant divorcee, leads a chaotic and quirky life. She has written one successful book and is trying to write a second, but, you know, life. Her mother has died and her beloved stepfather has mostly moved in - then her biological estranged father shows up on her doorstep and brings chaos and drama. As the story unfolds, we learn about teenage angst and single mom angst.
I found this to be an entertaining book, although the last chapter was probably unnecessary and could have just been incorporated into the previous chapter.
If you like quirky engaging characters who you just can't help to identify with and love, then this book is for you. JoJo Moyes has done it again.
