These two are just so cute! Two things that made my score only a four out of five stars has to be the length of the book. It鈥檚 way too long. There鈥檚 pages and pages of emails or conversations and I just couldn鈥檛 bother with the conversations. That鈥檚 the main reason it took me so long to finish. I picked it back up after months of giving it a break. The second is that I鈥檓 not a big political fan because it bores me to tears. Other than that, this was a cute and light-hearted read. It would definitely be great material for a movie adaptation. ...more

The citizens have grey skin, white hair and red eyes, so the belles were made to create magical appearances for all. I loved the sisterly relationships between all the belles. But what I was looking for was more of the intrigue and mystery surrounding the royal family. I felt it was way too slow for me. It dragged on for a long time and it was too long. I guess I have a short attention span, but I did have to stop reading it for a bit because I got bored. I still like the world enough to buy and read the next book though....more

She brings charactersI've read one other book of Taylor Jenkins Reid and I loved it just as much as this. Her writing is absolutely worthy of praise. She brings characters to life. Forms and moulds them into realistic characters that you want to befriend and even root for. Namely Evelyn Hugo, with the looks and figure of Marilyn Monroe with the mysterious life of Elizabeth Taylor, this is the character I imagined her to be. But her honest and in depth life was portrayed so beautifully, I couldn't help but cry by the end of the book. Evelyn is the most ambitious and tenacious character I have read lately. She's anything but perfect, and I love how Reid portrayed her. She is wholly vulnerable and strong all at the same time. I think most people reading this will either love or hate her. Maybe even a bit of both. And all the other characters? They hold no candle to what was really going on. There's something I can't talk about because it's a major spoiler but I'm sure anyone can agree the romance is passionate and wild and uninhibited. I loved every single bit of it. All these characters have no shame. They don't apologize for being exactly who they are, and I found it so new and refreshing.
The only parts that bothered me was how she uses men. I know she would do anything and everything to rise to the top, but it also felt very wrong and unequal for her character to do that. But what do I know? It was set in earlier times. And for a character to be so modern thinking in an era of time that wasn't? Well it felt off.
I loved reading about how fake everything in Hollywood really was. How everything was controlled by these characters to spin a story. Can't help but think that they do this in our own society every day.
This was one emotional roller coaster that I couldn't stop reading! It also pulled me out of my 26 day reading slump! Grab this one if you're looking for a quick read that will have your heart being pulled (or twisted) into different directions. I'm such a fan of Taylor's writing now, and I need to read all her previous novels....more

I had the largest reading slump I鈥檝e ever had.. a and I think this book just pulled me out of it. It started off slow and I abandoned it for a month or so, but I picked it back up and could not stop reading it. The oppression, the pain, the deaths..mimic everything is happening the Black community and I see how well Tomi weaved it into her story. It鈥檚 creatively done!
Excellent premise, I love the characters, setting, plot, everything worked in sync! My only inkling was that it was too long, but that鈥檚 just me being impatient. Don鈥檛 be wary though, because it reads quickly even with three different viewpoints. Though I still can鈥檛 understand Inan at times. I also kind of wish Amari and a certain other female character get together.. because come on, they鈥檙e both great characters.
I鈥檓 so glad I have the second book because with that ending?!?! I need to find out what happened lol on to book two!...more

The writing is just so easy to read you just fall into the story so quickly. You'll be surprised at how the twists and turns come. You're not even looking for it, and bam there's one or two. I'm still reeling from the story, it's one that will be on your mind for a while. I also understood a bit about group homes and the teens that get stuck there with no place to go. It broke my heart reading about it.
Allegedly is one roller coaster ride of a book, and I know that people will fly through it, just like I did. There are also so many wonderful quotes that I had to pull. The characters, the story, the ending, was all pretty much in sync and I empathized whole heartedly with the characters. The only thing that I had a problem was the articles in between the chapters. I had trouble keeping them separate and remembering it all. It broke my attention from the overall pacing of the book.
I really love Tiffany D. Jackson's writing and can't wait to read more from her. Allegedly will have you reeling from its twisty-turny plot and leave you gasping at that ending. A must-read for any contemporary thriller fan!

That's how she ended up in here; in love, doing stupid things for stupid boys.
His rough hands caress my face, eyes soft and searching. He always looks at me like that, like I'm the most amazing thing he's ever seen.

What does it mean when you love and hate someone at the same time? It means they family.

And that鈥檚 coming from the longest hiatus and reading block I鈥檝e ever had. The story is simple, yet it was also inspiring. Having a character with a known disability was tough, but it worked so well. I liked how the characters all supported one another and how well they communicated with one another. Bonus points for making the main character born and bred in Trinidad and Tobago! I really enjoyed this take on a modern day retelling of The Little Mermaid....more
