I love visiting the Toronto Islands and do it at least once every year. It’s a wonderful place to appreciate so when I stumbled on Christine Lane mysteries I was immediately hooked. I like the main police woman protagonist and her trials and tribulations on the islands and in the city. The books are very enjoyable with a lot of interesting background from the history. Christine is brave and tenacious unflappably facing sexism on he police force in the 1960s and many obstacles in her own life. She is a very likeable character with an interesting romantic life or lack of it at times. I have read all the four books chronologically which I think is best and most enjoyable way to do it. Sabotage is full of intrigue, many suspects and equal number of surprising culprits. Ideally I should have taken my copy of the book and biked over to the ferry and read it on the island. I may do it with the fifth installment said to be published in 2025. I can hardly wait.

No i po wielu latach przeczytałam Anne jeszcze raz po polsku, tym razem w nowym tłumaczeniu Anny Bańkowskiej, które odebrałam jako świetne. Ta proza płynie bez wysiłku, jest wyrazista i wielobarwna. Nawet i te szczyty po krótkim czasie przestają uwierać. Tu i ówdzie przebłyskuje postępowość autorki, o którą niewątpliwie musiała walczyć w tamtych czasach. Do tego książka jest ładnie wydana przez Marginesy. Brakowało mi trochę ilustracji, oszczędne, czarno-białe ryciny Bogdana Zieleńca z wydania Naszej Księgarni z 1970, które było moją lekturą dzieciństwa, były jakoś bardzo na miejscu. Tak czy siak z przyjemnością stwierdziłam, że Anne ciągle daje się czytać, i nie tylko przez sentyment, na pewno zupełnie inaczej, krytyczniej, ale magia, wykreowana przez autorkę ciągle jest.
