The book captured all of the twists and turns Strayed’s journey had, almost metaphorical to the PCT. That said, while the retelling of her journey did not lack substance, it did lack depth, IMHO. I'll agree with my friend that it did take many twists and turns, but mid read I ended up telling my mom she needed to give it another chance. This eThis book was on my TBR list AND on the "required reading" list of books we could choose from for a project in one of my classes this semester. This excited me because it NEVER happens anymore! While the book had its profound moments throughout and kept my attention, it didn't end up being what I thought it would. Malcom writes in a very sophisticated, intellectual, educated way (a good thing) but the chapters and examples seemed to drag. I can definitely see now why it is used as academic reading material. I would still recommend, as I think any reader can come away from the book with insights they did not bother to consider before diving into this book. ...more
