At times a bit bonkers with lake monsters and magical beings out for revenge but at the core there's a great found family vibe, lots of positive queer rep and fun small town diner and library locations. Great on audio and perfect for fans of authors like Loghan Paylor or Heather Fawcett. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early digital copy in exchange for my honest review. This was my first Tanya Huff book and I can't wait to read more by a new to me Canadian author!...more

I loved the dynamics between the two main characters and the gaming references. While a bit slow to start for me in the beginning, once I got invested I couldn't wait to see how things were going to end! Highly recommended for cozy mystery fans or books like Murder at Gulls nest by Jess Kidd. Set in the winter, this was twisty with some good character/plot development, cameos from Morgan's sheriff boyfriend, John and as always Morgan's trusty dog, Newt. The final reveal was a bit far fetched but made for a good story. Great on audio narrated by Susan Bennett and perfect for cryptid fans and series like Tara Lush's Critters and criminals. I liked the first book in the series but I think this one was even better!! Set on an antique cruise at sea, this features more amateur investigations by Freya Lockwood and her aunt Carole, ties to ancient Egyptian artefacts, an anonymous (and deadly) man known as "The Collector" and a twisty murder mystery. It was good on audio and perfect for fans of series like The monster hunter mysteries by Annelise Ryan. Can't wait for the next book in the series!...more

Part family mystery, part romantic suspense and full of drama, romance and action.
This book really had it all and I loved seeing Mira stand up for herself against her homophobic parents and find the true love of her life where and when she least expected. This book has a story within a story as we get to learn about Molly's gran's life growing up in the 1950s through letters she leaves for Molly in a journal that arrives after her death.
Full of lots of great life truisms and puns, cameos from all our favorite characters including a few new ones and a puzzling mystery involving the fabrege egg and a heartwarming wedding finale that just might bring a tear to reader's eyes.
Fans are sure to finish satisfied but I for one will be sad to say goodbye to Molly, Juan and the rest of the gang. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early digital and physical copy in exchange for my honest review!...more

I thought this cozy Drag Queen murder mystery had a great cast of queer characters that are devasted when one of their own turns up dead after ingesting poisoned chocolates. What follows is an equally funny and tender story about Joe, accountant by day also known as Misty Devine by night, who is determined to solve his mentor, Lady Lady's murder in the face of police discrimination. Great on audio read by the author, Holly Stars, a UK drag queen and comedian, this is the first in a new series and I'm excited to see what happens next. Twisty, full of laughs and just zany enough to keep readers flipping pages to the end as the tables constantly get turned. The story was also good on audio and is told from multiple POVs (including that of the hired hitman and his wife and the new Casino manager).

With no cell service and a host of suspects, this was more cozy mystery with a jab at the ridiculousness of influencers and rich people. The killer's method was clever and I liked all the irony in this story. It was a little light on romance for my personal tastes but good on audio. This book This was a prescient, timely, must-read dual timeline WWII story debut that was able to take on the genre in a fresh and unputdownable way. This book is the NEEDED-reminder that history always repeats and being indifferent leads to evil leaders. Drawing on the wisdom of philosophical greats like Plato, who said lines like "The price good men pay for indifference to public affairs is to be ruled by evil men" - Dini, reinforces just how IMPORTANT it is for present day citizens to stand up against tyranny and racism. 10/10 recommend this debut that was fantastic on audio. Left with nowhere to go and little money to her name, Pomona's old nanny offers her a room in her son's apartment and eventually the two strike up a deal to try and solve her grandmother's murder.
