Witty, snarky and sure to keep you on the edge of your seat as Ruth outsmarts everyone who is trying to find and/or kill her. It was good on audio narrated by Dan Bittner and Rebecca Lowman.
My only critique was that I didn't love how abrupt the ending was or how she left her rescue dog behind to save herself. Not since Marissa Stapley’s Lucky have I read such a badass female main character and I would love to see this one made into a movie!

I loved the narration by Brittany Pressley, the bipoc/Latinx and trans rep. Anyone who enjoys entertaining social media influencer stories will not want to miss this one. Highly recommended for fans of books like Hate follow or People like her.

At times a bit bonkers with lake monsters and magical beings out for revenge but at the core there's a great found family vibe, lots of positive queer rep and fun small town diner and library locations. Great on audio and perfect for fans of authors like Loghan Paylor or Heather Fawcett. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early digital copy in exchange for my honest review. I loved the dynamics between the two main characters and the gaming references. While a bit slow to start for me in the beginning, once I got invested I couldn't wait to see how things were going to end! This was a BONKERS book by a new to me Canadian author about Jessamyn St. Germain, an aspiring theatre actress determined to get her shot at a chance This was a BONKERS book by a new to me Canadian author about Jessamyn St. Germain, an aspiring theatre actress determined to get her shot at a chance in the spotlight but instead gets cast as the glorified babysitter for the child actors in an off broadway production of The sound of music.
Determined to make the part of Maria hers, Jessamyn goes to great lengths to create the perfect circumstances that will have the director begging her to step in when the lead actress is unable to go on. She's not above murder and other manipulations either but things go horribly wrong in the end just when she's so close to achieving her ultimate dreams.
This was fantastic on audio narrated by Stephanie Willing and perfect for fans of authors like Mona Awad. While this book might not be for everyone, I was totally enthralled by this unhinged female protagonist who was willing to do anything to seek fame! I got engrossed in this latest by a new to me author from page one and I can't wait to see what happens next in what appears to be a new series. I always love strong female characters and bonus when they are morally gray and extremely flawed. There was also a lot of Canadian history/content which was unexpected but wholly appreciated. If you're looking for something different but fun and suspenseful and great on audio, I recommend giving this a shot. There's lots of homophobia, bullying and sexual misconduct in this story and I liked how the B&W illustrations leant a serious vibe to the book but I also kind of wish it had been in color too. Other than that, I really enjoyed it and am hopeful there might be more Abby Kita mystery stories coming in the future!
