The murdered girl's father's girlfriend is declared the guilty party and spent years in prison protesting her innocence. Now ten years later she has committed suicide and a witness has come forward to validate her alibi all those years ago. It was a bit hard to keep everyone straight. I very much enjoy the character of DCI Stanhope and look forward to getting to know her more in the future....more

Samuel is feeling hella depressed and lets his wolf take him over. Mercy has a book she borrowed from a fae bookstore. She goes to return the book, bringing Samuel with her, and gets into trouble when she encounters fae looking for the book. Samuel has been one of my favorite characters and although I didn't want him to end up with Mercy, I do want to see him have his own happy ending. That said, Samuel's character development seems to have been tied up a little too easily and came out of left field. Can Mercy manage to once again save the day (with a little help of her friends)?...more

She once again gets thrown straight into the deep end of a feud and has to rely on her wits and supernatural skills to get out of trouble. She leaves town for a bit to get out of the vamp-war fire only to find herself in the frying pan in another vamp's territory. I'm enjoying getting to know Mercy (this is my first time reading the series - where have I been?) and the cast of characters surrounding her. I don't have a favorite supe group yet, but I do want to smack Marsilia really hard....more

When Mercy used her friend and former boss Zee's knife for an additional, unauthorized purpose beyond killing the demon vampire in the last book, she has to repay the favor. While tracking down who is killing fae on their reservation Zee is caught red-handed in the killer's home and is arrested. Mercy refuses to let it go, even though she is told by all the fae to let it go, and starts investigating the world of the fae and discovering things they do not want her or anyone to know....more

I would have been okay if it had ended there, but my life is so much richer knowing how Ada's story continued. I really admire the character of Ada and love Susan and the other secondary characters. It shows how life was like in England from the viewpoint of a young, precocious little girl. She volunteers for the fire watch, overcoming a fear of heights, and learns to care for others - and even experiences loss as everyone did during the war....more

Ada and her brother Jamie are neglected by their mother, and Ada is not allowed to walk or leave the apartment to even use the bathroom because she has a clubfoot. She secretly teaches herself to walk and when her brother Jamie is sent away from London to the countryside she escapes with him. They are taken in by a grieving woman (widow?) and experience the world for the first time. Very well-written and gripping....more
