Why did you read the sequel? A good question, and one I’m asking myself. I was interested to see what happened next in the lives of Sophie and Xavier, and Loveboat Reunion is a lot better than book one. Xavier’s challenges with his dyslexia are heart-wrenching, while his inability to live up to the expectations of his internationally famous family is infuriating. You can’t help but root for him, making his story highly compelling. Sophie’s story isn’t quite as impactful: she swears off of guys so she can focus on her course at Dartmouth, but that lasts all of five minutes before she’s texting Xavier constantly and organising an entire Loveboat Reunion with the help of his private jet. That being said, her quest to discover who she wants to be is one which I think most women will be able to relate to: do we want to be studious, serious or sexy? Which one will get us furthest in our desired career paths, and which ones will get us mocked and laughed out of the room? I found the writing in this book to be quite juvenile - particularly for an upper YA novel featuring characters attending college - and found Sophie and Xavier’s second chance romance to be unbearably cringey. This book is definitely better than the first trip to Loveboat, but it’s still not a new favourite of mine. I’m considering reading Loveboat Forever to finish off the series, but I’m equally happy to leave this one here. Time will tell. ...more

He’s extremely brave to have shared all of this with his readers, and I think this could be a huge help to people who are struggling to open up and might need to learn to ask for a bit more help and support. ...more
