I loved "Ink and Bone," (book 1) of this series and I did enjoy "Paper and Fire" (book 2), but not as much as book 1. It definitely suffers from 2nd book syndrome. But, I am still excited to read book 3, once it comes out. ...more

This book took a really long time to get into.... around 100 pages. I only stuck with it because I've like some some of the author's previous books. It eventually became interesting, but it took a long time to get there.
The the biggest flaw was the main character... she was pretty unlikable. I never really warmed to her. The secondary characters were actually more interesting....more

A Steampunk paranormal romance... but instead of being set in England (as is usually the case for Steampunk), it set in an alternate history America where the Americans lost the Revolutionary War. I actually found the terminology very off-putting in this novel. Once I started to understand the phrasing, I began to enjoy it, but the slang was not well defined at the beginning of the book.
