I liked Maggie. She's coming from a family where she was treated badly by her aunt, but loved by her uncle, where she's lived a life of a provileged young lady, but she's not afraid to dirty her hands an work hard to make her dreams come true, even if her dreams are forced upon her by her foster father. She's strong and resilient. She's fighting to make her life better. She's not a crying ninny. And I appreciated it!
On the other hand we have Garret. He's bitter. He's been horribly aboused by his father. That's all OK, but his irrational fear of believing in Maggie is over the top. With everything Maggie did to make him belive in her, he still stubbornly refuses to! Oh, I wanter to hit him!
The villain was soooo... lame. I don't mean literally, but he was so bad that it was too much. That's the only thing I have to complain about Maggie. I didn't understand why she kept being civil to the Jennings!!??? She and Garret both know that they're the culprits, but they just try to fight them fair. Why??? Was it not Wild West? Where everything was solved with bullets? So if the Jennings use bullets, why not Maggie and Garret in self defense?
At the end they do it, and I'm askining myslef why all that waiting?
But still, it was an enjoyable book! :)

This one was slightly better than the previous one, but still too much internal dialogues... And the resolution was to abrupt and easily solved...

I loved the first book and were looking forward to this one for years! LOL

I like the planet Harp and its environment so much! I love their culture, even if it is a little bit elitist. In this case it's normal: the shifers are the top of the evolutionary chain. They are the top predator of the planet and also the part of the population thanks too whom all the others survived, being them part of the plant ecosystem.
It was interesting to read about that. The semi-sentient planet which rejects the intruders. So the survivirs of the colonist had to do something or die killed by the planet. And they tampered with their genome and produced the shifters.
All that is the huge secret the people of Harp keep form everybody and also the big secret Aidan must keep from Rachel who's obviously bewildered. She has proved herself and her moral code time and time again, but she just knows that Aidan is hiding something and keeps thinking all the wrong things.
Aidan is very conflicted: he trusts Rachel, but the secret is not only his. On it depends the existence of his whole world!
I loved both Aidan and Rachel. They were both very strait-forward persons with high moral code. And thier feeling for each other were also true.
The action is non-stop as in the previous book. Rachel must overcome her "shortcomings" because she's human, but she's tough enough to do it and to do it very well! Aidan ahs it easier since he's a shifter, but he's honest enough to admire Rachel for her force of will and her physical resilience.
Because Harp's Green is deadly! And we see ample demonstrations of its deadliness!
We know since the beginning who's the villain, but we never discover who's the villain's boss, so I think there's ample space for a sequel that I'm going to love to read!

Ouch... I ddin't like this one as much as the previous books... :(((
Sadly this one was a NA... [image]
The heroine, Ari... what to say? I was sorry for Ouch... I ddin't like this one as much as the previous books... :(((
Sadly this one was a NA... [image]
The heroine, Ari... what to say? I was sorry for her and the life she had with her psychopathic father, but she was soooo meek and weak!!!
The hero, Hugo, is a young officer who, when everybody else is killed by the said Ari's psychopathic father, take the place of captain. But he's very young and doubts his ability to act as captain in a very critical situation.
I don't know why Hugo's fallen for Ari. There was some attempt by the author to explain both Air's meekness and Hugo's attraction to her, but for me it was very, very lame...
The most interesting part was when the other ships come into the story and acted with all together to save the ship and all the civilians on it.
I'm really, really sorry to rate this only 3 stars, but I couldn't connect with both MCs... Even the supposedly hot moments, that I enjoyed in the previous books and tension breakers, here were awkward and I almost felt like a perv watching dirty porn. I just couldn't think that such a person as Ari would act in a certain way (aggressive) or that Hugo would have been turn on by her then when two pages before she was trmbling in fear!
Still, I'm sorry that the author will not write any more books in this unverse! I would have liked to read what happens when they get on New Earth!

The main complaint is that the heroine, Noelle, changes her mind in a matter of seconds. One moment she's swooning at I did and din't liked this book.
The main complaint is that the heroine, Noelle, changes her mind in a matter of seconds. One moment she's swooning at the hero's, Rand, attentions and the next she's furious with him. I understand that she's forced, that she's almost a prisoner and therefore she rebels, but her actions and reaction were too abrupt and almost without reason.
On the other side, I did like the overall feel of the novel. I could immagine the situations and the country.
Also, I couldn't understand Rand's reasons for loving Noelle. To me it seemed that his only reason was her beauty. And for me that's not reason enough.
So I have mixed feelings...

Similar because we have a strong heroine, who's capable and no-nonsense. Who's strong and capable, but at the same time rational and intelligent.
Totally different because in the first book we had a complicated situation with some interesting political games, while here the we don't have almost none of this, but much more the building os a family relationship.
Yes, there's some skirmishing because she's human, but more is about how they'll overcome that between themselves.
I liked that both Rhydian and Delaney were outspoken and sicussed their problems in a honest way trying to understand each other's point of view. They speak, they don't suppose! And the's great!

I adore Rachel! I'm still convinced that I want to be Rachel when I grow up! And I want Myrtle too!!! And Mason! And Josh and Jeremy! And, of course, HI adore Rachel! I'm still convinced that I want to be Rachel when I grow up! And I want Myrtle too!!! And Mason! And Josh and Jeremy! And, of course, Hugo!!!! This was too short, but still good! I adored the actiond and adventure in the first book and I'm feeling let down here...
It could be due to the fact that the heroine's Talent is Sight. SI adored the actiond and adventure in the first book and I'm feeling let down here...
It could be due to the fact that the heroine's Talent is Sight. Sight is much more tame Talent than Fire! It could be, but that was not the only thing that made this book less than the first!
Sophia is not a likeable heroine IMHO. She's to pround of her Talent and her being an Extraordinary that she becomes TSTL. And I don't appreciate that! She's convinced that because she's an Extraordinary she's inevitably right and treats badly even her best friend Cecy, throws a temper tantrum, leaves the room slamming the door... A bad behaved 13 years old!
The action is all in her head. She Dreams and have Visions where she discovers bits and pieces of the mystery, but compared to the real life action is boring...
The hero, Mr. Rutledge (and she thinks of him like that through the whole book!!!) is a meh hero. He's supposedy a spy who travelled the world, but he's so bland and meak that I couldn't consider him a hero!!!
The villain is bland also. Lord Endicott is a forger and, when Sophia had a Dream of him embezzling during the war in Portugal, he made the War Council doubt her visions and dreams and made her dismissed. So Sophia resents him very stroongly and wants revenge. That's the extent to his perfidy... thwarting her at every turn wherever he meets her... Mah...
The romancing part is non-existant. Only in the last few pages there's somewhat rushed romance. During the rest she tries to push Mr. Rutledge away for her own imagined grievances and not for any real reason. Even in that department she's full of herself even when an intelligent human being would ask for help...
So, I'm deeply sorry to say that this book doen't deserve more than 2 1/2 stars rounded to 3...

[image] When the lead ship Corvus came out of transition instead of a friendly reunion with the other ship, Aquila, they're suddenly attacked by the same Aquila!
The captain is killed, the AI Corvus is malfunctioning, the ship almost destroyed!
Sophia, the daughter od the inventor of all AIs, first officer on board of Corvus must take the lead. Unfortunately, she's not considered able by all on board, starting with her fellows officers and ending with the slime major.
She will have to fight both the aggressive Aquila, the slowly recovering AI, and will have to conquer her leadership! A lot of things to do!
Fortunetly for her, not everybody is against her. Leo Saito, the scientific officer is on her side.
The AI is a surprise too! Contrary to the other AIs we've met in the previous books, this one chooses to evolve as female! Mostly because of Sophia and her courage and strenght! Corvus is hilarious, even if she often acts like a hormonal teenager!
Saito is a fantastic beta hero: supportive, intelligent and submissive. I liked that he was the perfect partner for Sophia in everything, even in bed! LOL
Sophia was a much harder to like heroine. She's almost too strong and cold, but I like that the author was able to show us and to explain why she's that way. Still I admired her will not to succumb and fold under all the pressure she was put in. She was able to overcome in an intelligent way everything that was thrown on her.
The suspenseful moments abound, the hot one too, but there're also a lot of fun moments just right to lighten the story, due mostly with the AI Corvus!
The ending is cliffy though and I would advise to wait having the last book before starting this one!

This is the story of a lie told to save a life, but that grew and grew until it came out at the worst moment possible!
I'm not overly fond of lie trope, but here the heroine told it for a worng reason. I understand that Grace is afraid, but why keep telling the same lie when you met the hero and undersatood that he was not the beast?
And keeping it for such a long time?
I could also understand Tor's anger when he discovers it.
But I liked that she understood it too and din't act like an upset idiot.
Apart from this, the story was nice and I liked it! 3,5 stars rounded to 4!
