The classic beach getaway, sun, sand, and a whole lot of unresolved emotional tension. In Time Together, Luke Horton throws a group of old friends into a coastal retreat that is less about relaxation and more about confronting the messy realities of adulthood.
Phil, reeling from his mother’s death, invites his friends to his family’s beach house, hoping for some kind of solace (or at least a distraction). But, as with any good literary holiday, what follows is a mix of nostalgia, unspoken resentments, and the kind of existential pondering that pairs best with a glass of wine at sunset. Marriages are tested, friendships are scrutinized, and time itself becomes a quiet antagonist, reminding everyone that they are no longer the carefree young adults they once were.
Horton has a keen eye for the small moments that define relationships, the awkward pauses, the unsaid things that linger in the air, the way a single glance can carry years of meaning. His writing is observant, occasionally biting, but always deeply human. If you’ve ever been on a group trip and felt both comforted and stifled by the people around you, you’ll find a lot to relate to here.
Time Together is a novel about love, loneliness, and the passage of time. It’s tender, sharply written, and proof that sometimes, the best vacations are the ones that force you to face yourself. Just maybe don’t expect to come back feeling refreshed.
I Highly Recommend.

Imagine getting dumped, packing your bags, and moving to Paris on a whim. Sounds like a dream, right? Well, that’s exactly what Ella does in Eat Your Heart Out, a delightful novel that blends heartbreak, self-discovery, and a whole lot of cheese into one irresistible story.
After her long term relationship crashes and burns, Ella leaves Melbourne behind and lands in the City of Love. But rather than diving headfirst into romance, she takes on an even better challenge, eating 365 different types of French cheese in a year. Along the way, she finds herself navigating charming Parisian streets, befriending eccentric locals, and, of course, dealing with the occasional romantic complication.
Brownlee’s writing is light, witty, and smooth. The beautiful descriptions will make you want to book a flight to France! But beyond Paris and the food, this is a story about reinvention, taking risks, and embracing the unexpected.
If you love books with travel, romance, and a side of delicious food, Eat Your Heart Out is a must read. Just make sure you have some snacks nearby, you’ll definitely be hungry by the end!

Sonia Orchard’s Groomed is a courageous and'Il faut que la honte change de camp. It's not for us to have shame - it's for them. - Gisèle Pélicot
Sonia Orchard’s Groomed is a courageous and unflinchingly honest memoir that examines the complexities of abuse, the pursuit of justice, and the societal structures that fail to protect the most vulnerable. Written with raw emotion and clarity, Orchard not only shares her deeply personal story but also explores the broader implications of grooming and its devastating impact on victims and their families.
The book’s strength lies in Orchard’s ability to weave together her individual experiences with broader cultural critiques. She challenges societal taboos, examines the subtle ways grooming operates, and exposes the complicit systems that often silence survivors. Her narrative does not shy away from the emotional toll of trauma, nor does it gloss over the systemic shortcomings in how institutions respond to abuse.
Orchard’s writing is deeply empathetic, pulling readers into the intricate emotional layers of her experience while encouraging reflection on their own assumptions about abuse and justice. The inclusion of broader insights, including psychological and societal perspectives, makes Groomed not only a personal story but also an essential contribution to the ongoing dialogue about safeguarding children and holding abusers accountable.
Groomed is an essential and timely book for anyone interested in understanding the dynamics of abuse, the gaps in institutional responses, and the courage it takes to seek justice. It is a thought provoking and emotionally resonant read that will leave a lasting impact on its audience.

Taboo is an exploration of the often unspoken aspects of womanhood. This part memoir, part feminist manifesto delves into themes of sex, body image, relationships, career, and friendship, intertwining deeply personal anecdotes with sharp, accessible insights. Ferguson’s voice is unapologetically raw and relatable, aiming to dismantle societal stigma and empower readers to have the conversations many avoid.
The book stands out for its candid reflections on the shame and social conditioning that often accompany topics like female sexuality and self worth. Ferguson’s storytelling is equal parts vulnerable and humorous, making heavy subjects approachable. In moments, it feels like a heart to heart with a trusted friend, capturing the messy realities of navigating modern life as a woman.
Taboo serves as a valuable guide offering insights and solidarity during a time of self discovery and societal expectation.
For readers eager for an honest, no frills discussion about womanhood and societal norms, Taboo is a must read. It challenges, inspires, and most importantly, sparks conversations long overdue.
I Highly Recommend.

Drag Queens Down Under by Art Simone is a tribute to Australia’s diverse and resilient drag community, celebrating both historical and modern day figures. In this beautifully illustrated anthology, Simone captures the stories and personalities of 30 influential drag performers. Simone traveled across Australia, gathering voices that reflect the complexity of Australian drag, from its gritty origins to the glitter of Drag Race fame.
What makes Drag Queens Down Under especially compelling is its depth and variety. Through interviews, it dives into humorous, heartfelt, and sometimes harrowing experiences—like Verushka Darling’s story of narrowly escaping a dangerous encounter that ended in an unexpected show of respect. The book covers major moments in the community’s history, such as Maxi Shield’s performance at the 2000 Sydney Olympics and Vanity’s innovations in wig-making. It also tackles the broader cultural impact of drag, especially relevant now amid increasing anti-drag sentiment. This book isn’t just for fans of drag; it’s for anyone interested in LGBTQIA+ culture, Australian history, or the evolution of performance art.
The amount of effort that has gone into creating this marvelous book is second to none. Congratulations Art Simone!

At any moment it may be shattered and then all will be over. “The Burrow - Franz Kafka.
THE BURROW follows members of the Lee family as they navigate grief and hope in their quiet Australian suburb: Jin, an emergency physician and father; Amy, a published author and mother; Lucie, their bookish and introverted ten year old; and Pauline, Amy’s mother who’s trying to make amends. After the wake of a shocking accident, the family adopts a rabbit in the hopes of bringing much needed cheer to their home.
Atmospheric and tautly lyrical, Melanie Cheng’s slim novel brings together four distinct perspectives to reveal the enormity of loss, long buried family secrets and how to survive in a newfound world after the ultimate tragedy.
Each chapter is told from the point of view of one of these characters, we even get a couple of short snippets from the rabbit’s point of view, providing us with deep insights into the strained relationships in the family and how they are dealing with a tragic death.
Towards the end of the book, buried secrets and resentments finally come to light, and are put into words which shake up the characters relationships as never before.
Through all of this runs the presence of the little rabbit, symbolising the fragility of life while also representing a focus for love and care.
The Burrow is a wise and moving story about a family navigating grief, hope and healing through a bond with a new pet rabbit.

The Empusium by Olga Tokarczuk is a wild mix of gothic, philosophical, and psychological elements. Set in 1913, the novel follows Mieczysław, a man with tuberculosis as he checks into Wilhelm Opitz’s Guesthouse for Gentlemen in the village of Görbersdorf. A health resort/Sanitorium of sorts in the Silesian mountains.
Straight off the bat, the setting gives off major Dracula vibes, with a group of eccentric patients engaging in deep (sometimes unsettling and misogynistic) conversations on life, death, women and the nature of existence.
Tokarczuk’s signature style, mixing the mystical with the mundane, is all over this book. There’s a constant feeling of something lurking just below the surface, which makes the slow build incredibly tense. It’s a novel that asks a lot of big questions, but instead of offering clean answers, it leaves you with a haunting sense of unease.
The book feels like a fever dream, strange, immersive, and thought provoking. It’s not a light or easy read, but if you enjoy meditative, eerie, and complex narratives, you will love this one.
The Empusium is a novel that challenges and rewards, appealing to readers who appreciate literature that intertwines psychological depth with gothic horror.

Christian White’s The Ledge delivers a taut, psychological thriller that grips the reader from the first page and refuses to let go. Known for his ability to craft stories full of tension and unexpected twists, White sets his latest novel in both the past and the present, it takes us back to 1999 and the nostalgia is tremendous. It's an easy read, thoroughly engaging throughout with a big twist you don’t see coming!
The story centers around severely decomposed human remains that are found in West Haven State Forest. They’ve probably been out there for decades. After the discovery is announced four old school friends gather together. Do they have a secret?
What makes The Ledge truly stand out is White's masterful use of tension and pacing. The novel is a slow burn thriller, where the suspense builds incrementally with each chapter. The reader is kept on edge, unsure of who to trust.
The Ledge is a gripping read for fans of psychological thrillers. White continues to prove his talent for creating suspenseful, well constructed narratives that keep you thinking long after the last page. If you enjoy books that combine drama with deep psychological exploration, The Ledge will not disappoint.

Six Scorched Roses by Carissa Broadbent is a daSix roses. Six vials of blood. Six visits to a vampire who could be her salvation…or her damnation.
Six Scorched Roses by Carissa Broadbent is a dark fantasy romance novella that explores a world ruled by dangerous vampires and where humans make uneasy alliances with these supernatural beings. The story centers around a healer named Lilith, who strikes a risky deal with Vale, a lethal vampire, to save her village from a deadly disease. Their relationship, though starting out as a transaction, develops into something more complex and intense.
Broadbent’s writing is characterized by intense emotions, and a blend of dark fantasy with romance. The novella delves into themes of sacrifice, survival, and the morally grey areas that arise when humans and vampires collide.
The novella’s strengths lie in its rich world building and the slow burn tension between its leads. Broadbent paints a vivid picture of a bleak, plague ridden landscape and the constant peril of living in a world ruled by vampires. The stakes feel personal and real, and the pacing of Lilith and Vale’s evolving relationship kept me hooked.
Not my usual genre, but I thoroughly enjoyed my time with this one. If you’re a fan of dark, gritty fantasy with strong romantic elements and complex characters, then Six Scorched Roses might be worth checking out.
It is also worth noting that this standalone novella is set in the world of the ‘Crowns of Nyaxia series by the same author.

Dark Arts and Crafts: 13 Spells for Love, Money, and Self-Care by Tehani Perham and Peter Coleman is a magical craft book that combines the art of DIY projects with spellcasting aimed at improving various aspects of life, such as love, wealth, and personal well-being.
The book offers 13 different projects, each linked to a specific spell. These spells are designed to help readers attract love, increase financial abundance, and enhance self-care. The projects are crafted with intention, meaning that the act of creating each item is also part of the spell's magic. Perham and Coleman provide clear instructions for each project, making it accessible even for those new to both crafting and spellcasting.
Some of the projects include, A Magical Bath, A Witch Jar, A Devil’s Trap, Self-love Tea (I made this and it was delicious! It definitely had me feeling wonderful afterwards), Sigil Magic Make-up and a Charm Bag, to name a few. I look forward to trying more of the Spells and Crafts.
What makes this fabulous little book stand out even more is the history behind each spell and Witchcraft in general. The history buff in me especially enjoyed these sections. Brilliantly researched and scattered with plenty of fun facts about the bizarre, and often hilarious, history of spellcasting.
The amount of work that has gone into the production of this book is phenomenal. From the Beautiful hardcover to the amazing colour photography spread all throughout the book and of course the wonderful history. Not to mention a carefully curated set of spells and crafts. This is unlike any other spell book I own. Dare I say, a new favourite!
In Conclusion, I think this book would appeal to anyone interested in combining their love for crafts with a touch of the mystical, offering a creative and spiritual approach to enhancing different areas of life. It will also heavily appeal to those, like myself, with a keen interest in the History of Witchcraft.

Kate Quinn’s The Briar Club is a fascin‘If these walls could talk. Well, they may not be talking, but they are certainly listening. And watching.
Kate Quinn’s The Briar Club is a fascinating dive into the 1950s, wrapped up in a cozy murder mystery. If you love historical fiction with a touch of suspense and strong female leads, this book is a must read.
Set in Washington, D.C., the story kicks off with a shocking murder at Briarwood House, a slightly run down boardinghouse exclusively for women. Grace March, the new tenant in the attic, is at the heart of the story. She quickly becomes the glue that holds together an eclectic group of boarders: an elegant Englishwoman, a police officer’s daughter mixed up with a gangster, a former baseball star, and a die hard McCarthy supporter.
What makes this book a delight is how it captures the era’s societal changes, particularly the evolving roles of women. Grace's weekly dinner parties in her attic room become a symbol of camaraderie and healing, even as she harbors her own dark secret.
Quinn excels at creating strong, relatable women who each face their own struggles and secrets. The dynamics between them are both heartwarming and tense, adding layers of depth to the story. Plus, the inclusion of recipes from Grace’s supper club adds a charming, personal touch. The characters are well drawn and relatable, and the plot keeps you guessing until the end. Plus, the chapters from the house’s perspective are a quirky and fun addition.
One of the standout aspects of this book is how it captures the era’s atmosphere, suspicion, the Korean War, and the early days of the birth control pill are all woven into the plot. Quinn’s attention to historical detail is impeccable, making you feel like you’ve been transported back in time.
If you’re a fan of historical fiction, strong female leads, and a good mystery, you’ll likely find ‘The Briar Club a rewarding read. Just be prepared for a slower pace, as this one dives deep into character development and setting the scene.
The Briar Club is a rich, immersive novel that offers a fresh take on the historical mystery genre. It’s perfect for a cozy weekend read and would make a fantastic book club pick.

If you're looking for a read that combines hauntingly beautiful prose with a gripping narrative, Anyone's Ghost by August Thompson is the book for you. Thompson has weaved an intricate, emotional story that keeps you hooked from the first page to the last. The characters are richly drawn, each with their own unique depth that makes them feel incredibly real.
From the very beginning we are told of what's coming, how this story is going to end and what will be lost. But the sorrow, the tenderness and melancholy with which Therron remembers the past shot right through my heart.
