I'm sorry but I decided to DNF this book. At this point, I only care about Maven's future and I feel that his future is going to look pretty burned. Do you get it? Okay, I'm going to stop.
I'm kind of mad actually. I started this saga loving the books but this one has, in my opinion, LOTS of irrelevant parts.
I don't know... maybe in a few months I will read the 220 pages that I have left or I will just google the end, who knows? Certainly not me....more

House of Salt and Sorrows is a story narrated by Annaleigh Thaumas, a girl who used to have eleven sisters but now, only seven of them remain. Even though each death could be blamed on illnesses or accidents, the inhabitants of the surrounding villages are certain that the Thaumas family is cursed by the gods. Ignoring the whispers about the curse, Annaleigh lives a series of events that make her believe that maybe the deaths of her sisters weren’t as accidental as they may seem.
In general, I liked the characters, the story, and how it had splashes of mystery, horror, romance, and even psychological games. It was very atmospheric and to be honest, I徱’t predict any of the plot twists that this book has but maybe that’s because I'm not good at predicting things.
The things that made this a four-star (or maybe three, I don't know yet) read, instead of a five-start read, were that first, the romance felt a little bit like insta-love and I’m not a huge fan of that. I wish that the author would have developed the romance a little bit more so I 徱’t have that feeling but apart from that, the romance was enjoyable and cute. And second, despite the fact it had horror and it got spooky, I was expecting more than what I received. I have read multiple reviews emphasizing the horror aspects but I wanted more but of course, maybe that's because I’m not easily spooked.
Overall, it was an enjoyable and spooky read and I highly recommend it if you're in the mood for an intriguing, gothic story.
EDIT: After much thought, I decided to lower the rating to 3.5 stars. ...more

i need to write down some of the quotes that i highlighted: - silence has always been my loudest scream. - i have so much love to give, but no one ever wants it. -“i don’t know. & it’s okay not to know. - don’t allow the world to take your kindness.
