My only complaint was I despised the protagonist. I think if you're a woman it would be really hard to even remotely want to root for him....more

However I don't mean that as a negative. I think I'm going to think about this book for a long time.
Also thought the voice actors did such a good job! Highly recommend as an audio book....more

I was swept away by the characters and setting and didn't mind that they were someone lose about their abilities/how they managed to go unnoticed. I'm working my way through reading all of Ottessa Moshfegh, and I'll admit that as far as being halfway through this book, I nearly gave up multiple times. I knew with this being Moshfegh that this would by no mean be a classic murder mystery, but her books typically have at least slightly more plot weight to them. Once my mind settled into the fact that this was a character study, I enjoyed the book significantly more.
Note: I would not recommend the audiobook as that made this a slightly less positive reading expereince for me (although I understand that is is very fitting for the character)....more
