I didn't expected to love it as much as I did but by chapter 2 I was already charmed by the characters and their banter. Not only that but there's also some discussion of heavier subject matter which gave the book unexpected depth and nuance. Sadly though, the last third felt extremely rushed and I wished it would've been more drawn out but the conclusion was still wholesome enough to not be ruined by that. I guess I'm not the first to say it but if you love Howl's Moving Castle and Pride and Prejudice, definitely give this a try!...more

There's not much of a plot here, so keep that in mind. It's more of a character study and exploration of human (or rather inhuman) connection and relationships and emotions. And to be completely honest, a huge part of it is just vibes, beautiful writing and nothing else. But exactly that made A Dowry of Blood so charming and endearing in my opinion. ...more

I'm typically not a romance reader and don't even care for romantic subplots if they're not extremely well written. But Divine Rivals was just something else. The hype is justified, you guys.
While this story focusses heavily on grief, guilt, the horrors of war and the trauma that results from it, Rebecca Ross has managed to spin it into a comforting and hopeful tale of love and friendship and finding light even in the darkest of times. And with her beautiful writing (seriously, so many beautiful quotes!), she brought this story and especially Iris and Roman to life. Those two ... I can't with them. The last couple I rooted so hard for was Percabeth back in the day. Iris and Roman's letters to each other were so raw and beautiful and with every one of them, they became more solid and three dimensional as characters, and you could feel how they both fell more and more in love with each other. It was beautiful to witness, let me tell you that.
Divine Rivals was not at all what I expected but maybe that's exactly why I'm so blown away by it. I saw that the sequel is still dropping this year, and you can bet I'm counting every single day leading up to its release....more

That was my exact thought after finishing the last page. There was so much potential and promise of more but ultimately, House of Hollow was a big disappointment and I dare say, waste of time.
Although the atmosphere is uncomfortable and eerie and there's promise of something big, the plot is crawling at a snails pace, and the big conclusion is so underwhelming and predictable, I yawned my way through it and couldn't stop rolling my eyes. The same goes for the characters. They're a shell of what they're supposed to be and when I didn't feel completely indifferent towards them, they annoyed me to the point of wanting to reach through the screen and slap them across the face. A bit more personality then "just being a desirable Hollow" would have suited them well.
I don't get the (TikTok) hype around House of Hollow. Give it a try, if you want to, but I'd say rather give it a pass....more

I devoured it in a short few days and while doing so, I rediscovered how much FUN reading can be.
I agree that Iron Widow might not be a book for everyone. I myself am surprised that I enjoyed it as much as I did. It's edgy, crazy, and controversial in its characters and themes, messy in its execution and overall presentation. And to be completely honest, it's not really a good book in the traditional sense. But it's fun and entertaining and sometimes that's all it takes for a book to be good.

I'm still a huge fan of the character work and development in this book but it's not better than the first. ----- Jade War is one of those very rare sequels that's even better than the first book!
The stakes are even higher than in Jade City, the plot always has you on the edge, even in its slower/calmer parts. But just like in Jade City, the characters are outstanding. Without getting into spoilers, there are some great corruption arcs that really make you question your sympathies with some of the characters.
Can't wait for Jade Legacy being published later this year and seeing where the Kaul family ends up!...more

I will never not feel alarmed any more when I'm super hungry.
Is it worth the read? Sure, if you're looking for a quick, old school horror tale with a lot of body horror and gore and don’t mind the occasional stupidity that comes with such stories. But if you're expecting a masterfully woven, suspenseful horror novel, The Troop is the wrong choice for that.
