Oh my. This is the most disgusting book I've ever read. I'm not really squeamish when it comes to body horror but this � this was on another level. I will never not feel alarmed any more when I'm super hungry.

That being said, apart from the great body horror, The Troop hasn't that much to offer which would make it an outstanding book.
The plot is really simple and lacking a satisfying conclusion. It downright drags on at times and its suspense is entirely building on the gore scenes and relying on shock factor.
The characters are mediocre at best, but calling them stereotypical clichés wouldn't be that far from the truth either.

Is it worth the read? Sure, if you're looking for a quick, old school horror tale with a lot of body horror and gore and don’t mind the occasional stupidity that comes with such stories.
But if you're expecting a masterfully woven, suspenseful horror novel, The Troop is the wrong choice for that.
