Then Cam turned into a the literal worst. I am all for the strong silent type, but "because I wanted to" or "because it's good for you" or "I changed my mind" for all the things she doesn't want to do, is an ENORMOUS red flag.
(view spoiler)[ I don't like that you ride a bike, and someone could hit you. So I throw you in the truck and make you drive, and are snarky and nasty about it, even when you have specifically told me you hate driving and you never actually complain about bike. Red Flag.
I announce to the town we are dating, even though literally 2 days a go I said I absolutely did not want to date, and you absolutely said you do not want to date, but I am man baby because I saw you having a drink with my brother. Double Red Flag.
Demanding that she communicate ALL engagements with other people, so he is not surprised. Bright Red. Flag. (hide spoiler)]
65%-85%: I really wanted the eagle to shit on head every other sentence. Or for Hazel to put her fucking foot down and say, absolutely not. But apparently, she looses all brain cells around this stupid man and his dick. 1.5 stars
The town was great, Zoey was absolutely the best, and I loved the Cam's brothers, sister, and parents. The plot was totally fun and Hazel's joy at her "found family" was delightful. Maybe I can just write a FF to remove rewrite Cam to be 1000% less dominating and dickish.
Plus, I just couldn't get over the raccoon in the house.
So just 3 stars, because I like Hazel, the town, Zoey, and mom's band-aids....more

She's a big baby about some things, completely dumb about others, spends alot of time NOT asking good questions (internally or externally), and loathes a "male" who saved her after her inside were outside. He happens to be about 2000 years old. Cool, except she if really despised him, she wouldn't also be constantly thinking about this "male" parts. And he is one of the biggest assholes I have read in a while, and no side smirking can save him. Kingfisher (objectively, a terrible name) has a sister and a friend, who spend their time apologizing and an excusing his shitty behavior. Listen, trauma is real. His "daddy" issues are real. The magic system that tortured him is real. But go find out outlet (and a therapist), and stop being an asshole to everyone (even the people you apparently do like) and sexually harassing people. It's gross. And Saeris, who is amazing at sneaking around, stealing things, grasping how her magic works (insta-magic, anyone?), pulling swords out of stones, looking good in dresses and pants, making a fox her pet, and tasting floral notes in wine. Seriously, that last one may have been what broke me. Could I just have a book about Ren?...more
