It is possibly due to how many people have maltreated it. The beginning made me so happy and hopeful to contribute more to the reams of Greco-Roman research out there.
My recording gave up after the speaker brought up Caligula the third time. I want to also read it, but I just listened to the audio recording with the beings in the room who were present. So I will look again in the library for the print copy.
All right, I just found the print book, and will probably get it next week....more

Luckily, many years ago, when I was a pipsqueak of maybe eight years old, I also read a cute little book on speed reading. It has paid untold dividends, even if I can no longer find record of it anywhere except in my own mind.
What this book is - is a cheat sheet or a how-to guide to make businesses cleaner. This is exactly what we have been looking for while the environment has floundered the past couple of years.
Looking it over, I don't think that a single person can work on the sustainability problem to fix it. It seems like a huge team effort. Something lots and lots of people like how there are gazillions of people in China or India to help out with fixing....more

It is what it is, or however you say that in French. I played a lot of their style of music in undergrad school. Also, the writing is incredibly reminiscent of the time period, which would make sense.
I'll find more of his stuff. I am looking, in order, for Eugénie Grandet, Cousin Bette, The Black Sheep, The Girl With The Golden Eyes, and Ursula to start. (The lattermost book got confused in my e-search with Ursula K LeGuin, an important sci-fi author, who recently passed away.) I'll expand my search when I have more energy later.

Tomohito Oda's art style is eye-catching, so once a spot in my list of Free Library Loans opens, I mean to read the rest of this twenty-volume series. I invite you to do the same as soon as you can. It is from the perspective of a guy who has fallen in love with Komi, Tadano.
It looks like only the first six have been translated into English by someone else, but that is okay because I speak Japanese, although not quite as well as Russian, which is a bit backward when you think of French, which admittedly I don't understand as well as Chinese or Latin, which yet I don't grok as well as English. So - hai, reading it will probably involve some jisho/jiten shigoto. That's okay though. I can do it. I translated the first Tsubasa manga for myself with the dictionary when you could only read scanlations online before you could buy official translations in the stores. Remember doing that? (I can picture at least five of my friends from back then so I know they're out there in the Internet ether.)
I mean, every single person I have ever consulted has told me I had been doing a phenomenal job with my translation work, but I am never satisfied because of that dismal JLPT score I received when I took a test beyond my capacity back when I could drive to the testing site at age 17. I understand now how I set myself up for disaster on that ominously sunny day.
This book made me more curious about the difficulty of trying to make your meaning known to another person....more

I have found it beneficial to my health to meditate while listening about Mrs Clinton's failed presidential campaign so that I kept focus.
What I just heard sounded extremely current to me, so I had to research to check that it was three years old. (I don't really live a Metro stop away from the Capitol, per se, I just visited DC for a disability conference a couple of years ago, for which I lost all paperwork... it might be down in the basement somewhere but that's my sister's domain. I doubt it.)
My mother had compared me to Hillary Clinton frequently when I was younger so I was doing investigative listening. This memoir reminded me very much about running for office at the university. (I had shuffled around positions for my undergraduate institution's Off-Campus and Commuter Association, which netted me a steady income I wasn't expecting on top of all my other studies!)

Or am I.
Well, I do miss seeing my family. So that saved this book from receiving a single star. It's true today my cousin from that side of the family got her degree in occupational therapy! So I am happy that this book made me think of them.
I couldn't listen to the book past the 3% mark though, so keep that in mind....more

I found this book a quick read - Libby estimates I polished it off in "36 minutes" which I find quite remarkable.
I have tried to staunch myself in the genre at my high school library with some other novellas (it was the series Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging) but found failure.
I found the premise interesting, so I borrowed it.
This book also reminded me of my soirée with Bryn Mawr, one of those all-women colleges in the area, but I couldn't exactly tell you why.
In any event, I thought the story was endearing. Trés attachante, I verified on the Internet. I couldn't tell exactly how old Olivia was supposed to be, but she seemed to be 15 or 16....more

Nowadays, my undergrad advisors have sent letters of recommendation about me to a graduate institution whose mascot is the dragon as well! Due to this, I was particularly enthused to read this wondrous book about racial equality.
In that light, I zoomed through Say It Louder! Black Votes, White Narratives, and Saving Our Democracy. When I think of black and white, my mind goes to chess - I have five strategy books on how to win from both sides of the board, but this is something 100% different - I may have lost friends over this. Mathematically, both sides are even.
I am not sure whether CNN and MSNBC, the two cable news networks this author names, have equal proportions of anchors, as I don't really watch TV (I just overhear it while reading all these books in the other room), and I haven't asked anyone about it. I just researched CNN's Q&A, although it is about six months old. That's okay, it's not like it's going to blow up because it's old.
I liked this book so much because it made me rethink old concepts I previously hated such as the Purge since I associated that term with Stalinism AND/OR with bulimia, problems with which I no longer want or need to associate with myself....more

The artwork is on par with what can be dug up from the archives of my favourite webcomics, which is what saved this book from a single star rating. (I've been a purveyor of this sacred art form since time immemorial!)

This is not from the science populizer Carl Sagan, though, this is a book by an associate professor of astronomy at the University of Victoria in British Columbia, Jon Willis!
Those of us who were into excavating "dinosaurs" (such as when the companies sent you and your family stones to chisel toys out from for Christmas or your birthday - the book talks about seismology) will really be into the early part and those of us who have also translated Ovid and/or played Dungeons & Dragons might approve of the later chapters.

I have reassured myself it is still one of my favourite books on the planet, moreso than Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. I just absolutely adore this story - I figured out through looking for THIS specific book the new-age program Hoopla, which I have wrinkled my nose at the years I first heard of it. (Fun fact about me: In high school, my first research project was about Alice's Adventures in Wonderland / Through the Looking-Glass. Unfortunately, I do not have the PowerPoint anymore. Maybe I can try and remember what happened so I can try to replicate what I did since I got such a good grade on it, as I recall!)
I originally did not even want to use Hoopla, I just rejected it outright as something wrong since MY library didn't have it. I had to say a different one was my library. (But it is, I can get all the ebooks since I am in Region 6! ...I am a 45-minute drive from that library when there's no traffic... but it counts!)
Or, um, wait, that might be for meteorology... I'm listening to another audiobook and can't think too clearly right now.
But anyway, Through the Looking Glass is in the same mien as the Chess World magazine I just returned to the library yesterday - this month was about women chess players - in essence, Lewis Carroll has his character Alice make a couple of erudite quips. Do you know how to play ? It's superduper kooky and throws me off, so I hope not to compete against anyone who can.

If I read all seven, I'd risk becoming closer to an English major, which I am not. The work from this volume I focused on discussed tea strength, a fact which I heartily approved.
You know, I have heard you can dip cookies into tea, but the times I have attempted this very feat, it's turned into a sopping mess that's turned my fingers into wretched filth which can't perform.

My mother, aunts, sister, and I have always been working women (in different ways), so I didn't really understand the book's message at first. I don't think there was a cultural or gender difficulty in what it was trying to say because my Chinese History professor Dr. Chien and my Chinese Culture professor Dr. Cai sent me across the waters in 2013 to study it, so I am pretty sure I knew what was going on... It just took me a while to understand.
(ETA: I honestly did not catch any racial tensions anywhere at any time. They most likely exist, but I am totally oblivious.)
When I was in China, my instructors had me putting things together with a needle and thread to embroider a year-of-the-snake wall hanging. I think it's in my room somewhere - I was just texting my ex about my sister's snake, anyway, that it was a boa constrictor (so that he wouldn't draw conclusions that she has a penis). What I DIDN'T LIKE was drawing from this book the conclusion that females all must cook, clean, shop, and gossip. Since they do not.

You might be aware that, although I have visited Washington D.C. a couple of times before you essentially couldn't travel anymore, I am not really "a politico" so to speak, so I don't actually know what's going on, all the time. It just seemed so cool. Regardless, I found this story somewhat mimics how life has turned out.

It really confused me when I saw something called "Appendix to Book 3" towards the middle, closer to the beginning of the book, but I suppose some books are mostly appendices. That confusion inspired me to investigate further - what exactly is this author trying to prove?
My conclusion is that he must be describing "face" without getting wrapped up in any one culture - having a reputation to defend.
