I first read the few chapters of the recently released manwha and I just had to know the rest of the story!! Philomel is a great twist on both the villainess role and the isekai genre. What I love the most is that Phil is not Isekai-ed or reincarnated. She is a regular girl using her wits to survive in a world determined to vilify her. I'm also a sucker for the hurt-comfort gimmick as Phil turns away from the Emperor and finds new family in Logan and her brothers.
Philomel grew up as Princess of the Empire, but since her birth resulted in her mother's death her father hates her. The servants likewise neglect her since there is no merit in serving an unfavored royal. While playing by herself in the garden she finds a book with her name in it. She reads it for fun but is bothered by the contents. The villain of the story is Philomel, who was switched with the real princess at birth and then killed by the Emperor. Little Phil knows her father is not affectionate, but surely he wouldn't go as far as to kill her. When other events from the book start coming true she feels less sure. Troubled by nightmares she goes to her father to confirm his intentions and overhears him say some terrible things about her including his wish for her to 'live like a dead rat'. Not what Phil wanted to hear. From that day forth she stopped playing and vying for her father's love and began working to pacify the Emperor. She will wait until she is old enough to run away and in the meantime will give the Emperor as little reason to hate her as possible. Phil is fighting for her life. She will escape the imperial palace and live to be happy. When the real princess appears though she is different than what the book described. She also seems determined to hurt Phil for some reason. To protect herself and the future of the Empire Phil turns to her birth family for aid. Although she didn't get a first great impression of her father, Logan, the Master of the Magic Tower. But he comes to her aid the moment she needs him. Together, Logan and her three eccentric brothers go on adventures, fight, and laugh. Phil starts to learn who she is when she isn't pretending to be the perfect princess and that perhaps she is not so hated. ...more

Lone wolf Geralt unintentionally builds a merry band of adventurers as he sets off on his quest to save Ceri. Included is the bestest bro-dude Dandelion the bard, a no-nonsense archer, a Nilfguardian soldier looking for redemption, and a vampire healer. The ending was kind of funny too. At this point I'm enjoying their adventure way more than the actual plot. The whole 'save Ceri' plot is tedious and boring at this point. I feel kind of bad for saying this but I pretty much hate Ceri and I would probably love this book a whole lot more if they just cut her out of this whole thing. I'm not sure if I will continue with series. ...more

With the queen killed and the kingdom overthrown, the royal children are each taken under the cover of darkness and into the protection of a different star god each. Renamed, remade, and hidden. Each child walks a different path as love, politics, and ravenous zombie hordes threaten their new lives. I won't lie. I felt absolutely floored with names of all the lords, princelings, star gods and princesses. Really, even 60% in I would sometimes start a chapter and be like, "Who the f*** is Joelle?" But as much as I struggled to keep up with the absolutely huge cast of characters, I fell head-over-heels in love with our displaced royalty. My favorite being the leather clad Soren, who is somewhat like a steam punk Witcher who specializes in zombies and rides a motorcycle. And while the constant action, magic, and political intrigue kept me at the edge of my seat I must admit I sometimes became inpatient when Soren's story was put on pause to tell Caris' story. Grrr!! What kills me most is that book 2's expected release date isn't until 2023!! Gahhh! This story is amazing but I need more now!...more

I enjoyed it so much more than book 1. Like the first one this was sort of like a collection of short stories, but much longer stories. To give you an idea the first adventure was about 20% of the book. So I was able to invest more in the characters and I felt more tethered to the plot. Frigging love Dandelion aka Jaskier. Best friend a witcher could ask for. Yennifer came off as b****y shrew and I struggled to finish off Geralt's story with her. Then Jaskier popped up and made everything better by dragging Geralt on a crazy adventure that ended with them partying in a brothel. Seriously best dude bro ever. The ending was absolutely glorious and I loved it to death!!!! All the built up drama and feels just exploded in happy tears. My only real criticism besides the Yennifer debacle would be that the stories do play fast and loose with the timeline. Going from the past to the future to the present to go back to the past. I would've been terribly confused if I wasn't already familiar with the timeline....more

Insta romI was not expecting to get so addicted to this series. Its just so good. A very captivating adventure fantasy with some romance on the side. Insta romance, but oh well. Definitely start at book 1, though the opening does have a recap. We've seen spiders and tree monsters. Now our heroes must contend with the undead. Rohan begins to see the tangle of political intrigue surrounding him but for the most part ignores it and acts like business as usual. Our Rohan might be pretty but he's kind of an idiot. Finn connects with his daddy giving us sweet, sweet moments. But then we are also met with dark implications as Death Mage Marikoth's plans start to take shape. ...more
