The books in this series are always much darker than I think they will be and I’m here for that. It’s never too much and I certainly wouldn’t classify this as a dark romance, but it’s definitely there. I’m a huge fan of dark humor so this was right up my alley. It can be difficult to read some of the things on page and see it talked about in a humorous way (rape, imprisonment, etc.). While one of the MCs does use humor regarding these serious issues, it’s very obviously a coping mechanism and it’s addressed more deeply at times. I don’t feel like the author is making light of anything that happened. Some of my favorite scenes are those poignant moments where the MC’s walls are breaking down and I definitely teared up.
This book is on the shorter end, but it definitely packs a lot in. I absolutely devoured it and neglected real life to read. That’s always the mark of a good book for me. I love the love spell, forced proximity, enemies to lovers, necessary separation, jealousy, slight miscommunication regarding feelings, and mating of it all. Wow. A lot really was packed into this book.
I read book 1 and didn’t love it so decided to skip this one. I later read books 3 and 4 and loved them! I forgot about this book until reading a review about how great it was and it was right! I’m definitely going back and reading the novellas in between now. This series is just so great!

The dialogue really threw me off throughout the book and even more so leading up to the sex scenes. The descriptions were odd and the word choices bothered me. Does anyone find the word “pelvic� hot? And I was honestly expecting more sex based on the reviews. This is hardly smut with all the plot in there. It just wasn’t my kind of book....more
