During, I was annoyed that I seemed to have stumbled into middle-grade fiction, even though it's not branded that way. I do love this author, though, and she's on hiatus after a concussion, so I gave this a try. You can safely read this to a 10-year-old, though. It's about a human land near a magical land. Long ago, the dragons would periodically kidnap some princesses and princes would come to their rescue - it was just a thing the societies did, no harm, no foul. That hasn't been happening for a while, until one night, and very unconventional princess is taken by dragons and now serves the unorthodox dragon in his lair as his housekeeper. She doesn't want to leave, though. And she makes friends with a unicorn pony and eventually saves the day. Eventually, she marries the dragon, but there's no romance - super G rated. Happily ever after....more

This is the story of the suppressed wolf who is a genius illicit drug maker and the alpha wolf of the dragon's kingdom after they have returned to dragon land. I didn't like the tension with the obvious bad guys in power/government/her official partner. It's too close to being inside the mind of a despicable villain, which always turns me off. Same with post-apocalypses, which this might have been. It's been a while since I set it down and gave up on it. She's psychically connected to a dragon, which is weird in her world. The dragons are allegedly extinct after being on the losing end of a war with humans. Even saying out loud that you believe dragons still exist gets you thrown into a reeducation camp/prison. But they most definitely are still real - and he's not the only one. ...more

I wasn't sure I was going to finish it for the first many chapters, but fortunately, it takes a major turn around the middle and brings us into the main universe of this series, with cameos and tie-ins to characters from prior books. I do love the tie in to the magical charms that were so coveted and valuable in prior books. And I'm glad that all the baddies got it by the end. There's not much romance, just a romantic interest, which was fine by me. I could see spin-offs for this character in the future. ...more

The premise is that the family of a of a clergyman receives a message that he has inherited Wormwood Abby, because of the unexpected death of both his brother and nephew during a hunting accident. He, his young adult daughter from his first marriage Edith, his 2nd wife, and his 12 year old son go to meet the 3 surviving nieces at the Abby and try to figure out what to do about the inheritance.
There's a lot of mystery in the Abby - the eldest niece not being forthcoming, a suspicious neighbor, and odd baby lizard found in a fireplace and taken as a pet, and a very rude lawyer. Edith is a mystery writer herself, though, and so she sets out to solve the mysteries of the Abby....more

The 4 books and 2 novellas of Darkly Sweet, then the 2 books of Wit the Wicked, then the 3 books of Arrietty in Underland. Each series corresponds to one of the 3 dragon lords. They were all very good. I'm a big fan of this author now.
I adored the Darkly Sweet books - they were ridiculous and funny in the very best ways, with some darker urban fantasy woven through. Penny is the primary character of Darkly Sweet and I adored her. Her love interest Drake (dragonlord of Violence) is also fantastically odd.
The Wit (Whitley) books were also very good, but Wit is a harder heroine to love. I listed to some of these books on Audible for free (virtual voice narration, but not horrible.) Ian is her love interest (dragonlord of Lust).
The Arrietty books were the most violent and edgy with a lot less humor than the other books, which I suppose makes sense for Prince, the dragonlord of Death. ...more

I just thought it would be geared younger based on the title. I'd say this is for adults. It's about a dragon exterminator, his friends, a very pretty princess with too many suitors, a prince who doesn't live up to his father's expectations as well as the prince's valet, an old enemy of the prince's dad, and a whole bunch of dragons.
