Perhaps I should’ve known, because I hate any heroes that are dcw: extremely large age gap, sexual harassment
My expectations were low but HOLY FUCK.
Perhaps I should’ve known, because I hate any heroes that are divorced, widows, or single dads. But Jessa Kane did write a single dad that was actually readable. But this one was different. The hero in the aforementioned novella was likable for the most part. The hero here was insufferable. He mentions how bad of a husband and father he was…and it stuck with me throughout because he was being honest. He admits to having cared more about his work than he did them. His wife divorced him and his relationship with his family has since been strained. Until he meets the heroine and she’s the one that makes him change. He’ll be a better husband to her and be a better father to his future kids. This is great an all but I just couldn’t help but feel sorry for his wife and son. Not gonna lie, I feel sick thinking about this novella still. And I get that this is more of a me thing. Divorced heroes with children give me the ick.
Also, I couldn’t help but think that this was Jay and Gloria fanfic lmao.

It had a heroine who the author kept insisting was better than any other woman because she was a virgin and the women who the other heroes were with before were gold digging skanks. Okay, it wasn’t outright said but damn was it really obvious. It was published in 2022, I checked. Funny, considering that one of the pairs of twins which are her heroes is a “playboy who is known around town for being good at eating pussy and “sharing with his brother. Though, I might be bias, I like why choose romances BUT the appeal fails on me when they’ve shared before. The heroine loves that about them bless her heart. And the sex scenes and “dirty talk were eye gouge worthy. I didn’t know whether to laugh or vomit. If you write erotic romance, you literally have one job. If you are sensitive to second hand embarrassment, do not read this. The heroine is panting over all three of them and it’s pathetic. GIRL STAND UP! Oh and the ending is so strange. I read a review mentioning it but I dismissed it thinking it wouldn’t bother me but it was just bad. The author is not a newbie, they’ve published before so this surprised me. This being a debut would’ve explained the horrible writing and disgusting sex scenes and heroes....more

Okay, the love interest’s past life is really hard to stomach. He is a widow, and his first wife miscarried their child, which is something I really hate to read in books because I only want to read about guys that began their life with the female main character but boyyyy, was the romance good. He not having loved her was the saving grace. Khalid is an amazing love interest. The only annoying things besides his past are his cousin being a hoe that does not deserve Despina (ew to the Yasmine scene) and the stupid love triangle with Tariq....more

I did not like this. The romance was more subplot but still very instalovey in a wacw: violence, loss of parent, grief, attempted murder, animal death
I did not like this. The romance was more subplot but still very instalovey in a way I didn’t get sold on. So she falls in love with the prince and he gives her up due to his upcoming arranged marriage. He would’ve followed through with it if not for her stopping the marriage because the girl whom he’s about to marry is her envious lady-in-waiting who plotted to kill her and pose as the princess she is. I’m sorry but I was rooting for her, the villain. I would’ve loved her as the main character because I’d rather read a book about a female villain and her devoted bodyguard who’d kill for her and die for her. And who was so in love with her that he was willing to put aside his jealousy to make her a future queen, despite her having to marry another boy. Because yes, he fought the prince for her and died for it like a true villain. Fought him specifically because he “would’ve touched her and shared her bed. He killed to make her a princess. He died yelling her name. Now that’s a man. Instead, we got a mediocre romance where the prince gives her up to marry another girl. Blah. Selia and Ungolad you will forever be iconic. RIP icons. ...more
This one was a rough listen because it has no audiobook and I had to convert icw: bullying, homophobia (slurs), internalized misogyny (not challenged)
This one was a rough listen because it has no audiobook and I had to convert it to one with crappy quality. I might be willing to give it another chance if it is made to one someday. But the romance isn’t as developed as I would have wanted it. And there’s this scene that gave me the worst second hand embarrassment. And what’s up with that chick’s pic in his wallet? Was it necessary??? The way that whole thing was handled is peak 2012 cringy YA “not like other girls BS. ...more

cw: war, death, murder, gore, apocalypse, grief, pregnancy, Palestinian conflict
Honestly, this wasn’t as bad as I was expecting, because I truly wasn’t expecting any good from this book. But I do want to preface this by saying that several better reviewers have pointed out that this author wrote about the Palestinian conflict and it wasn’t good. I remember getting to the parts where the heroine would mention it and being taken aback because why the hell did miss Thalassa write that??? She had no business. #freepalestine ofc.
Besides that gross mess, I knew I that would have trouble with the hero. He’s promiscuous and I hate when authors make that their personality and an issue. There’s a specific chapter that makes my stomach churn where his personal business is given more heavy emphasis by the heroine’s own fault. Like please just respect his past by remembering that ignorance is bliss. Though I did enjoy that it revealed that he was queer lol.
Perhaps my least favorite but it did have some great moments and it wasn’t a dealbreaker for me. ...more
