Always
I am not jealous
of what came before me.
Come with a man
on your shoulders,
come with a hundred men in your hair,
come with a thousand men between your breasts and your feet,
come like a river
full of drowned men
which flows down to the wild sea,
to the eternal surf, to Time!
Bring them all
to where I am waiting for you;
we shall always be alone,
we shall always be you and I
alone on earth,
to start our life!
Neruda took my hand and opened the magical world of Poetry to me. Love brought me to him , he had words for what could not be expressed. I borrowed from him to write my love letters. And everything changes when you love poetry. There is hope of finding beauty where none, I had noticed before.
“The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.
 Marcel Proust
Neruda helped me in finding new eyes. And new poets. Some dead ,some dying...
All making death irrelevant.

I always resented poets with such out-loud-mouth,but Neruda with all his steer clear depictions of his beloved,the audacity in addressing and authority in demanding,is just commendable.
my favorite is his "if you forget me"....

Yes. This one below , has been my favorite of late.
Keeping Quiet
by Pablo Neruda
Now we will count to twelve
and we will all keep still.
For once on the face of the earth,
let’s not speak in any language;
let’s stop for one second,
and not move our arms so much.
It would be an exotic moment
without rush, without engines;
we would all be together
in a sudden strangeness.
Fisherman in the cold sea
would not harm whales
and the man gathering salt
would not look at his hurt hands.
Those who prepare green wars,
wars with gas, wars with fire,
victories with no survivors,
would put on clean clothes
and walk about with their brothers
in the shade, doing nothing.
What I want should not be confused
with total inactivity.
Life is what it is about;
I want no truck with death.
If we were not so single-minded
about keeping our lives moving,
and for once could do nothing,
perhaps a huge silence
might interrupt this sadness
of never understanding ourselves
and of threatening ourselves with death.
Perhaps the earth can teach us
as when everything seems dead
and later proves to be alive.
Now I’ll count up to twelve
and you keep quiet and I will go.
All making death irrelevant.
What a beautiful corollary to finish this tribute of a review that encapsulates to much in so few lines, Rahul. The natural imagery blending with the contours of the female body takes of Neruda's poetry to unearthly levels. Lovely, simply lovely.
