??? 2000s: if you like eco’s The Name of the Rose, you can think of this in comparison as a street-level political thriller rather than a philosophical murder mystery. i love both books. this is notably easy to read in short paragraphs and chapters, but very long, multi-voiced, similar to Moby-Dick or, the Whale. i do not know the details of reformation history but this work seems credible, and it is fascinating that four writers wrote it: everyone had their special realm of expertise, everyone must have collaborated with how it goes, but it is whole and moving rather than confusing or dispersed. i will read this again... maybe...

Peter Picked up a copy of this and was instantly absorbed in the bookshop. Because your review intrigued me I just had to check it out. Thanks for the accidental recommendation.

Kamakana glad it works for you. they also did a book on early european contact with indigenous peoples in what is now america: /book/show/2...
maybe not as good but interesting...
