Bet you thought you would never hear me say this..but this book was almost too much for me. It upped the violence and cussing to the point where I was like WTF? Millar crossed over the line of awesome into the feeling of just trying to shock the reader. I love the first book and hate the way this one turned out. Yuck.

It picks up shortly after the first one ended. Kick-Ass is training with Hit-Girl.

Then her reins get clipped as her step-dad makes her promise to not don the outfit or fight crime anymore. Yeah, like that's gonna last.

Kick-Ass gets involved with a new team of super-wanna-be-heroes. Justice Forever!

Then his arch nemesis the Red Mist returns as "the Motherfucker"

Bad shit happens..and happens to the point of even me cringing. Trigger warnings needed for a graphic novel..that I'm actually agreeing on. Never would have thunk it.
Well of course, Hit-Girl must step in to the fray.

The book ends with a big cliffhanger..Will I continue on with this series? Stay tuned to find out......

ETA: I'm changing this rating..after thinking about it a few minutes..It's not a 3 star book. You jumped the frigging shark Mark Millar..You get a one star.

Rachel L Sorry it didn't work out :/

Gavin I read Hit-Girl, which comes before this, just after Kick Ass, and I enjoyed it, but I can see where he might have taken it too far for shock value at this point. Millar is either very fun or very bad.

I'll live :)
I haven't gotten to one star much so far this year. I've been giving out dang five stars. I may have a fever.

I loved that first one..I just was shaking my head at this one. The storyline on this one just seemed to be for the shock value with no followup later for some of the happenings.

Anne I haven't read this one (or wanted to) yet. I thought the 1st book was great, but sequels usually don't work out for me.
Great review!

Thanks..and I so agree. That first one was so awesome.

Anne Yeah, it was. And I don't usually do 'gory' very well.

You know I usually do..this one just seemed to be just for the gore and cussing factor. AND I cuss like a sailor. So it's sad when I don't like it.

message 9: by Anne (new)

Anne It's a SAD day when there's too much cussing. :(

What. Happened?!

Is it like the movie? Because the movie wasn't that bad O_O

Lukas Holmes This one really turned me off too. I don't mind violence. I don't mind cursing. I don't mind attempting to create a realistic feel. But rape as an unnecessary plot device (that is then either forgotten or brought up in a glib way) crosses the line for me. You remove that part from the book and the story still works (even better). Totally unnecessary and out of touch.

I didn't watch the second movie..I saw the first one and I liked it. I actually liked the first book more than the movie. (view spoiler)

yes!!!! truth.

It just seemed thrown in to get more violence into the story. It wasn't needed..it didn't add to the story. Just totally unnecessary.

Shelby *trains flying monkeys* It's awful..just awful. The story does move fast and I loved these characters so much when I read the first one that I gave it 3 stars right after reading it..but then I got to thinking about it and was like "no way" I'm not supporting this.
I've heard the third one doesn't do this so I may pick it up later, but I'm really not sure that I will.

Hmm...I think I'm still curious to how they spin it.

Shelby *trains flying monkeys* It's really in this book only for shock value. It's still missing me off.

Pissing not missing..damn auto-correct!

Anne Welp! Thanks for taking the bullet. I certainly won't be reading this one.

message 21: by Sheziss (new)

Sheziss The movie is awesome (the first one, the second one looks terrible).

message 22: by Eilonwy (new)

Eilonwy Ugh! I got dragged to this movie when it came out, and it was all over-the-top, with much too much blood and gore. I guess it was true to the original material. Ugh again.
(The first movie was actually okay. Still not really my personal thing, but very good for what it is.)

I saw the first one..I don't think I'll watch the second. :P

You saw the second one? Bless your heart. <3

Flo Sorry this was a bust! Good luck with your next read. :D
Never watched the movies, but the second one is supposed to be over the top violent as well.

LOL! Thanks Patty :)

Spider the Doof Warrior I don't mind cussing, but dang. That Rhianna joke. Guh. I do not think I'll be reading this. I feel reluctant to see the second movie even though I liked the first a lot.

Well, as I just wrote to someone, this Kick Ass series, along with Ennis Punisher, feels like being intended for teenage men (which Millar states in his introductory). Hell, I love the book, it's awesome, but I couldn't but not to feel as a bit too old for this (even I am in near 30s).
