This book is completely overhyped. It is so dull. It's not exactly boring, but it's certainly not exciting. In my opinion, dull is the perfect adjective to describe 'One Day'. I was expecting something mindblowingly heart-wrenching from all of the praise I've seen for this book, but it was quite a disappointment. The book was well written and the premise was fantastic but it just didn't work for me - the whole thing just felt so drawn out and I didn't feel much for either Emma or Dexter - especially Dexter. The whole 'twist' just felt quite ridiculous. After ploughing through most of the book and to be given that ending didn't make me sad, just quite infuriated. I thought that the imperfect ending was the right way for the book to go, but not in this way. The book did show a realistic evolution of a relationship throughout twenty years, but this 'observation' of the couples lives unfortunately didn't really do anything for me.

I wasn't a fan of this book, either. :/
I've actually mustered up the courage to finish this book and felt nothing but disappointment. I was not engaged at all and would onlynread this book as a last resort. Over-hyped is the perfect word for this book.

i totally agree with you..the prose was good but at some point didnt live up to my expectations after all of the critical claim bombarded over the novel. I was somehow expecting more from it, something enthralling and mindblowing, but unfortunately, i didnt find any. The story was somehow realistic, and the growth between Emma and Dexter's relationship across the years was excellently developed by Nicholls.
The ending made me infuriated as well! I agree.
Glad it's not just me who feels this way about a book which is meant to be amaze-balls. Dull and uninspiring. NEXT!
True! The idea of reading about one day every year after Emma and Dexter met each other, was interesting. But the result was unfortunately disappointing.

currently reading this one and I'm stuck at chapter 5. Started reading this since September. there's no exciting scenes for me even from the very beginning. I really find this so boring that I want to give up already.
