Wasn't feeling this one :/ I thought the first book was ok, the second was better, and I thought this one was awful, like the more I think about it the angrier I get.
-She can't write sex very well and a lot of the Rhy/Feyre stuff was sex or about sex and it was just so awkward. Authors CAN make established couples still have that spark but not here. And the mate stuff didn't bother me so much in the second but it just was weirder and harder to deal with. I think the second book really established that Rhys saw Feyre as an equal, able to choose if she wanted to be with him and then elevating her to the highest level when others wouldn't. And there were still elements of that, like how she was free to come and go, but (view spoiler) I think part of it is that Maas can't quite decide her stance on mates and how she presents it to us.
-Feyre's characterization felt off. The first one she was closed off and angry and unlikable and then the second she was hurt from all of the stuff from under the mountain, and this one she had friends and connections and also wasn't really hurt anymore, so it was just a lot of "oh look at what amazing abilities Feyre has!" but not much actual characterization.
-All of the Moses references were weird? And then just got dropped and went nowhere?? Like the whole thing with Miryam crossing a split sea and also going across the desert to free enslaved people, and then with Amren on the hunt and some people covering their doorways with blood to show they were a friend. What was the point?
-Not pleased with the way she wrote LGBTQ characters. (view spoiler)
I just found myself not NEEDING to read it like with the second and even somewhat with the first. I mostly read it out of a desire to not accidentally read spoilers online. The pacing was so bad and it was too long. Needed more editing. And, as usual, such repetitive language, though it was more noticeable this time since I didn't like other parts of the book.
