Twilight (The Twilight Saga, #1)

While I truly loved this series once upon a time and still have a soft spot for it, I also want to acknowledge that the love story at its centre is inherently toxic and gets even worse in the later books. Meyer also stands accused of exploiting Quileute culture, and moreover I'm annoyed about the author's racism, which showed when she blocked the director of the first film from casting anyone who wasn't white for the Cullens. So you know, there's all that.

I liked all of the books a lot. I still can't say which one I like best. There's pro's and con's for all of them.

I think you'll enjoy them :)

Man you fell for the writing but gave up anyway? You gotta pick up that book again real quick.

I'm so glad you do :)

Wow I feel honoured! Thanks :)

I think what they're comparing is the hype around it. Twilight was the most hyped fantasy franchise for a few years.

They definitely got better, but I still can't decide on a favourite.
And the films are actually pretty bad. I like them, but they are definitely not good.

Atmospheric describes it pretty well, I think!

I think it's because the films suck so bad. I feel like it had a major influence on some of these ratings.

In my opinion, both the books and the films were good!"
That makes sense as well.
Well to be honest, I love Kristen Stewart as Bella, no matter what other people say. But then again, I think it is exaggerated and melodramatic (which the books suggests, too) and often cheaply done. I like them, but I don't think they're very good.
I absolutely love the books!! (I'm not so much a big fan of eclipse because there's not enough Edward time) I've read the series quite a few times but can never quite read the 4 in 4 days, it always takes me 5!! The movies are hilariously bad- you have to watch them with the knowledge of that otherwise you can't enjoy them: you will try and critique everything instead of just laughing your head off at it all

Whoa, 4 books in 5 days is impressive. I don't think I could ever pull it off. And what you say about the films is true, otherwise it might also ruin the books for you.

This sounds just perfect.

oh god, so sorry, I just saw this now!
I also think it was super romantic! Yeah the watching you sleep at night thing is...creepy at best...but, idk, I still loved it.
And yes I have! I wish there had been more side stories like hers.

I've been wanting to do that for ages. But I think I'll just reread 3&4 because I've already read 1&2 a few times.

it is but what I love most about it is the fantasy aspect.

so...a girl following her dreams and making them happen is not feminist? Just because what she dreams of is staying with the one forever and becoming a vampire?

so have I, it's good entertainment after all!

no fair enough, I totally agree. I'm rereading Eclipse at the moment and whoa the emotional abuse Bella receives from Edward. Boy bye. But I generally think that Bella is a very underrated character.

it only works when you do it on the computer and you click the "reply" button, another shortcoming of this website

I wholeheartedly agree! It's been a while since I wrote this review and even then I was aware that something was iffy about this relationship. As much as I loved reading these books (and I still do sometimes) the older I get, the more issues I have with these books. It is a super toxic relationship.

It has its moments of awesomeness and it has its moments of WTF?!
