Wow. I devoured this book in one day, and I was completely enthralled by it. I was particularly struck by the main character's amazing mothering (and/or - the author's creation of this amazing mothering), and by the all of the nuances of the situation that were explored - and through the view of a 5 year old, no less! In short, I thought it was creative and enthralling (I know I already said that one - it just was). I feel like this is what a Jodi Picoult book would be like if it were actually good literature.

I liked the reminders/comparisons to Alice going down the rabbit hole - including how that could be coming into Room, and/or coming out of it.

The only piece I didn't like, and only b/c it made me uncomfortable, was the topic of the breastfeeding. I actually think it was a great part of the book, because I think it said a lot about their bond, and how others might view them, etc. - and that's why I don't actually hold it against the book. I just couldn't help but have the other characters' viceral reaction that it was creepy! I understand it intellectually though, and I do think it added to the book. My only other question about it, though, and I'm guessing that there really is a reason for this, is: Why is it the only thing about which Jack is not articulate? For example he just says "more" or "lots" instead of speaking in the well-developed way he normally does (why does he not say, "some milk?"). More of a possible discussion point than a criticism. Cannot wait to discuss this at book club.

Another section I was fascinated by, which also will make for great book club fodder, is when the reporter asks why she didn't consider trying to get Old Nick to give Jack up for adoption. As a reader, I didn't consider it at all either, and I felt like, feeling for the character, I could never think she should have done that, but again, a great question. (hide spoiler)]
