** spoiler alert **

Looks about and sighs in relief. At last the hype swarm has moved on to fresher pickings and I can now read this without pressure.
First line - The news about Walter Berglund wasn't picked up locally - he and Patty had moved away to Washington two years earlier and meant nothing to St. Paul now - but the urban gentry of Ramsey Hill were not so loyal to their city as not to read the New York Times.
Three times I have resolved to get in and keep reading no matter what. No! I'm not the target audience by either lifestyle or reading habits. If this is modern living it can go on without me.

Interestingly enough, Franzen was the surname of the engineer who brought up the from the depths in the 1950s. Gustavus Adolphus (Christina's dad) was told of the dread doubts about the ship's stability but he deemed himself infallible.

Old arrogant Gustavus Adolphus surely knew of the fate of the Mary Rose and the fallibility of Henry VIII.
